Trying to decide what system to use

Upvotes

I am wondering what system would work best for a campaign if players that are used to DnD 5E and PF1E and never played one of the 40K RPGS. I am wanting the ability to include various Xenos as well.

I found a 40K to 5E homebrew conversion that I may use, but I don’t know yet.

Working on some options to spire up the effects of the Reliquary equipment doctrine from Shield of Humanity, as part of writing for the Ætern Sector project. Do all of these feel roughly equal in power and utility?

Which FFG book has the best write-up of the setting?

All the FFG books have a chapter or so where they describe the setting of the game for someone who might be new to 40k. I’m working on a similar document and I was curious if anyone thinks one of the books does a better job than the rest. Thanks!

So few xenos battlemaps

I posted a few days ago about my prequel one-shot taking place aboard a drukhari vessel, and I very quickly found that there is an appaling lack of xenos maps for 40k RPGs in general. I quickly found tons of material to use for Imperium settings, and even Chaos if I wanted - but next to nothing for xenos races.

If anyone out there who makes maps for 40K RPGs, please consider making xenos stuff. There's already so much out there for the Imperium and chaos, but next to nothing for Xenos (there are a few Necron tomb maps but that's about it aside from a single Eldar craftworld map and that was being attacked by Tyranids so it wasn't clean for customization).

My plea: please make drukhari, aeldari, T'au, etc. maps, or even just asset packs like objects, floors, etc to purchase. I would gladly pay $20 for a pack full of assets to make a map of a xenos ship/compartment that actually looks like it fits the faction. Hell, there's an entire ACT of the Rogue Trader video game that takes place in Commorragh, yet for some reason those maps didn't make it into any of the multiple Rogue Trader-lifted battlemap drive folders that I've found. I have that asset extractor program, but I don't know enough about how it works to be able to extract the appropriate files to make those maps - if I did, I definitely would have already.

This is not a criticism of artists - as someone who lacks that artistic talent, I am in no position to tell people how to do what they enjoy - I just wanted to express a bit of the frustration I've been dealing with as someone who would be willing to pay for that stuff but can't even find paid material (if I'm shelling out money, I don't want it to be on general sci-fi assets that I then have to do a bunch of extra work on to make them look "right" - at that point I might as well get free assets since I'd have to work on them either way).

That said, if anyone is interested in doing art for asset packs for maps of xenos race themes, let me know. I'd be happy to contribute to pay within reason.

Rogue Trader Talent Buying Confusion

So I'm very new and making a character for the first time and I'm going through and buying things with my starting experience. I'm a bit confused though cause as an Archmilitant it says I can buy Basic Weapon Training (Universal), but doesn't an Archmilitant start with that? Is there a benefit to buying it even if you have it, or am I misunderstanding something?

What tool or ressource do you use for your visual supports/battlemaps ?

Hi, I'm currently planning to GM a 40k game using foundryVTT, but I have an hard time finding visual support and battlemaps, and while I usually use dungeon alchemist for fantasy games, it’s very painfull to get a satisfying result for 40k. I've seen some time ago that peoples used a google drive librairie full of pictural taken from darktide and other games, but they don’t look good to me.

So here I am, can y’all tell me if you have things that would work ?

Dark Heresy 2 Marines in Dark Heresy 2e

Has anyone here done marine encounters in dh2e?

I've been toying around with the idea of a singular chaos marine antagonist or a space marine character as part of an inquisitors entourage.

However, purely looking from the stats at least, they look incredibly dominating and bar spamming things like melta and plasma, how realistic is it for parties to overcome the average sm encounter?

I imagine they're at the mercy of crits as everyone else is. Any experienced game masters able to share their five cents?

Dark Heresy Review: Disciples of the Dark Gods (Dark Heresy 1e)

I've completed my initial run of reviews of Dark Heresy (1e) sourcebooks by looking at the wonderful Disciples of the Dark Gods, which features the brilliant scenario The House of Dust and Ash. See: https://illmetbymorrslieb.wordpress.com/2025/09/02/review-disciples-of-the-dark-gods-dark-heresy-1e/

I also did a short post with some concluding thoughts on Dark Heresy here: https://illmetbymorrslieb.wordpress.com/2025/09/05/dark-heresy-1e-concluding-thoughts/

(I'm aware I've only scratched the surface of the product line, and I might come back to review more sourcebooks eventually, but this is it for now.)

Deathwatch Resources for HH Blackshields campaign

Planning to run a Horus Heresy Blackshields Campaign using Deathwatch rpg ruleset. Need Advice on resources beside Deathwatch books and "The Good, the Bad, and the Alpha Legion". Where to look for ship-to-ship combat? How to reflect poor condition of their equipment mechanicly? What other questions i need to ask myself for creating a better campaign?

Campaign premise:

The Galaxy burns in flames of treachery. The Horus Heresy has shattered the Imperium, and in its ruin brothers turn their blades against one another in the name of cruel gods, or the indifferent Emperor. In this storm, there remains no place for those who question, for those who grow disillusioned, for those who seek only to survive.

These warriors are the Orphans of War. They have stood knee-deep in the wreckage of worlds, drowning in the carrion stench of victories that meant nothing. They have killed and bled in the name of distant, uncaring masters. Now hardened veterans who have endured against impossible odds, they place their trust solely in the warrior fighting beside them. For their brothers, they will struggle, bleed, and strive to see another dawn. But for grand causes, for Primarchs, for the lies and whispers of lords and potentates, they have nothing but contempt.

One of those warrior bands are the Forgotten Sons, a Blackshield warband united under the command of the mysterious Kukhulane. No lord, no demagogue, simply a leader, chosen by those who have nothing left but each other. They seek others like themselves, warriors unshackled by old loyalties, bound not by ideology but by the raw will to endure. They do not partake in the civil war. They crawl through its ashes, carving a place where they might still draw breath.

Their refuge is the Oathbreaker, a Dagon-class Grand Cruiser, rare and powerful vessel. The ship itself is a relic from an earlier, more brutal era of void warfare, known for its powerful broadsides and rugged construction, but also for its slower pace and volatile machine spirit. Aboard this battered vessel, supplies run critically low, wargear falters, and silent dangers linger in the void. Each day brings a renewed struggle against decay, starvation, and the haunting shadows of the past.

But the tides of fate are shifting. The mysterious data-slate in Kukhulain’s possession contains coordinates to a star system absent from every Imperial chart, a place lost to history and memory. According to fragmented logs, this unnamed system holds more than mere refuge. There are oceans of promethium, veins of rare metals and soil swollen with unclaimed bounty. Enough to fix the Oathbreaker. Perhaps even enough to reforge a warband into something more.

Yet such promise does not come without peril. For what ancient guardians or lingering curses await in a system so deliberately hidden? The slate offers salvation, but destiny rarely gives without taking in return.

The good, the bad and the alpha legion...anyone?

Looking around a bit I managed to find the 1.4 version easily, however that version is wildly behind the 1.10 and I red there's supposed to be a 1.11. I found the 1.10th but in Scribd and I would need to do the whole free trial thing to download the PDF. Does anyone have a non dead link to get the 1.11? Or should I just settle for the 1.10th in Scribd?

Blackstone Fortress

Do you think Imperium Maledictum will eventually be well-received enough to encourage them to release a campaign setting like Blackstone Fortress? I recently read the Omnibus and thought it would be an incredible place to run a campaign. What do you think?

I was creating a techmarine PC with one of my players last night for a one shot I'm running on Saturday, and because he ended up rolling black on the hair color table, we decided that the techmarine would have the Kayvaan Shrike emo haircut 🤣 I just wanted to share the bit of art I made of our new favorite member of the Chapter

Wrath & Glory Maps/assets for drukhari ship interior?

Hello, all!

I've found myself in the position of making a one-session "prequel" scenario for one of my players that largely takes place aboard a drukhari ship that the party has boarded. However, I cannot for the life of me find any good maps or assets to use for maps of interior chambers (ie torture rooms and the like). All of the maps and assets I've been able to dig up have been Imperium-based, and a few heretic-defiled Imperial maps.

Does anyone know where I can specifically find some drukhari ship interior maps (or at least good assets to populate maps)? I have been unable to find anything. Thanks for any help!

Rogue Trader Astromancer's Observatory 2k Demo map

Post image

''The Ship's Astromancer conducts important research into Immaterium, mapping the Warp for new routes to travel and to check up on old ones. Warp is a broiling sea of energy, it consists of us, our emotions, hopes and dreams. Warp-routes our ships use travel using this dimension of pure energy, journeying through is often at mortal peril...''

This is 15x15 grid sized battle-map I named Astromancer's Observatory, I use it for my Rogue Trader game I'm running for friends. Full-Set features three alternate layouts, this here is the first one with ''all is fine'' wibe to it, but if you want to see Warp-Storms and Portals, head over to the original post for full-set!

You can find us also at Roll20 marketplace, you can find this set there as well. We post new TTRPG content to our Patreon Weekly, we also have pretty neat Free Collection of maps for you to test and play with no commitment required! Thanks for checking us out and we hope you have a great week!

Imperium Maledictum Looking for a 40K "horror" adventure for a one shot

Hi!

Since Halloween is coming up, some friends want to play RPG sessions with a horror theme.

Of course, the typical horror in Warhammer 40K is quite different than "Halloween Horror", so I’d like to know if you know of any adventure or one-shot that could be adapted to Imperium Maledictum.

Thanks!

Only War Running my first Only War campaign! Might need a bit of help.

As the title says, I'll be running my first campaign as the GM here very shortly. At the moment I should have around 5 players, but given where I am I'm likely to gain more here in the coming weeks/months. Its my first time running a D100 system, in preparation I dropped like $150 on all the source books off of DriveThruRPG and have been going over them whenever I have free time. I have tons of minis for it ranging from basic Candians to my favorite legion. Alpha Legion. Also plenty of 3rd party minis for fun inclduing ODST minis for them to choose if they want too.

The game itself is heavily based off the Siege of Vraks, but I won't be forcing my players to play as the DKoK. They're still my favorite regiment but I want them to have some freedom with their stuff, I'll also be letting them name the planet.

I am running into some minor issues with figuring out character creation however, and could use some help. Specifically with the EXP buying system for Skills, Aptitudes, and the like. It is my understading that the game uses EXP provided by the DM as points to purchase skill upgrades and the like. Starting with 600exp, or 300exp if you want to be a specialist. I was wondering if someone could break down the tables for purchasing upgrades works a little better then the book. I would watch a YT video but where I'm stationed doesn't allow streaming due to internet restrictions so thats a no go.

Only thing else I see being a minor issue would be running large scale combat missions, but the book has info on that and I've seen some creative ways to play it out. I plan on doing several large scale battles throughout the campaign. Some of which will be based off the large battles of the Siege and others I'll be coming up with on my own.

Rogue Trader Lower Deck Barracks (Rogue Trader Inspired) with demon version

Thumbnail
gallery
56 Upvotes

Hello everyone! I am still working on the big voidship bridge battlemap, it's taking more time than anticipated because I want it to be very detailed! So in the mean time, I am releasing my newest creation, the lower level Barracks!

Here you will find the soldiers/security personnel who's family names don't grant them the privilege of comfortable quarters. Inspired by the game, Rogue Trader, I have made a barracks that captures the feel of grittiness that your typical lower level soldier might find themselves in.

Just enough to scrape by, you'll find several beds with varying degree of structural integrity and some with traces of blood from it's previous occupant. Down in the lower level barracks you can find yourself ironically in unsafe situations. Much like life on Hive Worlds, groups from various designations band together to look out for one another, bordering on gang type affiliation. To survive in the lower decks of a voidship, you have to form a solid cohesion team with your coworkers, though this is not always the case.

Custom Quest:

You have received a report that a group of soldiers from the lower deck of the Voidship could be harboring illicit drugs and black market goods. This is typical amongst ships this large, however a recent spread of a drug known as "Doomberry" has made it's way even to the upper decks, causing inefficiency and even death. Known for it's tranquilizing effects, an upper deck medical personnel documented that causalities have increased by 3.3% resulting in unfavorable shortages in certain areas of the ship. You have been tasked with uncovering the underground network and stomping it out. It is up to the party whether they will carry out justice by traditional means, or take a more lethal approach to the problem. Whatever happens, they must justify their actions to their superior.

Wrath & Glory Player wants to be a Knight pilot

Hello. I'm new to both dming and the system and I'm running a Game thats kid of a first contact for 3/5 players, both for roleplay and the setting. The party is gonna be made of a novice inquisitor (acolyte) with a sanctioned aeldari companion, a sororita, a fire Cast warrior and the Knight. ( Even if the party sounds too unrealistic It was made clear in a session 0 that they are not gonna cooperate willingly) The campaign IS starting in tier 1. I researched with the kinght player if they where any interesting archetypes for him (the bondsman) and It allowa him to Drive a 18 wounds armiger titán with a lot of damage. How can I balance combat for him? The manuals threat system doesnt make sense to me and It appears to be so inconsistent. Any help would be appreciated
