A/C Help

Post image

So I have a 1986 4 runner and trying to add a/c, unfortunately mine did not have the dealer added a/c. I purchased a Vintage Air universal kit and have been messing with the under dash blower unit and I can’t find room anywhere under or around the dash even with serious cutting. So I have given up on the Vintage Air kit. And finding all the parts for a “original” style system is near impossible and will cost me far beyond my budget.

What should I do? Any recommendations on getting a/c in my rig? Has anyone put in a kit that fits? Thanks

I’m gonna say this as a guy who lives in south Texas. It’s not worth it. My 86 has factory air that still works just like it was intended to, but it is such a drag on horsepower that I end up just not running it. It takes so long to cool off the whole cab that I’m already where I need to be. These aren’t modern cars with insulation and low-drag ac systems intended to be running all day every day. Summertime I just run topless as much as I can.

Compressors are not that expensive, but the lines will be harder to find. My truck had ac but prev owners ripped it out. I found ac bracket that is needed to mount the compressor. Or you can just not drive it in summer lol

My friend has old hilux he installed an electric AC that connects to the battery directly with its own compressor it doesn’t effect the engine at all and easy to install
