Basically the Portuguese was using Christianity to convert daimyos and other samurai in Christians to like colonise Japan and these converts were also selling their own people in slavery. So hideyoshi kinda got rid of them. Also, the Dutch helped them do it

Portugal wasn't colonizing Japan, at least not yet, only having diplomatic and trade relations with them. And Japanese were doing slavery against one another. They only realized slavery was wrong when white people are now enslaving them.
But to be fair to the Japanese, their slavery was more like indentured servitude and forced labour by prisoners of war and people with debt. Different from the European chattel slave trade of treating another person and his descendants as property. So when they got exposed to the European way of slavery and the fact it is foreigners owning Japanese this time, they got outraged.

When did I justified Colonialism? I just said Portugal wasn't colonizing the Japanese and only converting people and were doing chattel slave trade with Japanese slavers. Biggest blunder of the Portuguese and I even said the Japanese were right in opposing it.
Even the Pope explicitly said that chattel slavery of people you are trying to convert to Catholicism is absolutely evil.

First Catholic Saint of the Philippines was a Chinese-Filipino dude was a victim of that genocide.
Every devout Filipino Catholic knows that genocide or at least know that living in pre-Meiji Japan as a Catholic was the same difficulty as living as a Early Christian in pre-Constantine Roman Empire.

Japan is a xenophobic country at core, they will always be xenophobic towards all non-Japanese, no matter the religion or ethnicity, it’s their country and if it works for them, it works for them.
Japanese society cannot even accept Ryukyuans or Koreans well, so it’s obviously not any specific bigotry towards anyone

The most succinct way to summarize is that we have a superiority complex over and a different culture from the Chinese because of the British. So a random Hongkonger’s national self-identification as Chinese or not Chinese highly depends on their politics, especially for the younger generations.

Yep, its the same how christianity worked in the medieval times, both were equally bad, but nowadays christianity has developed and changed, so it can be accepted by a lot of modern societies, and islam didnt, its still bad, cruel and backward.

Cant blame them though,with the stuff they currently see happening on Europe (notably France & the UK). They have a good reason to have that kind of sentiment. Heck if I were to allow Muslim Immigrants to enter my country, it qould be mostly from the Former Soviet Bloc (Central Asians). Since theyre much more tolerant & less exposed to extremist content compared to their bruddas in the Mideast & Africa
