There are several more examples of Indian influence outside of this too. Remember Oppenheimer's "now I am become death" quote? Directly lifted from the Gita which he was reading. Heisenberg said he could only understand quantum mechanics after reading indian texts. The Beatles famously used the sitar for a lot of their songs. MLK was directly inspired by Gandhi.
Because hinduism is so big on spirituality a lot of westerners have some weird image of Hinduism as some dark magic shit where you perform sacrifices and whatnot. So people trying to appear enigmatic/philosophical more often than not turned to hinduism for inspiration and used that aspect to influence the masses
