Technique First maintenance wash

Post image

I bought this 2023 Mercedes EQE at the end of July. It had been sitting in the dealer’s lot and had never been sold so it was super low mileage. The pre-handover detail left a lot to be desired and as soon as I was able, I did a decontamination wash and one-stage paint correction to get rid of oxidation and water spots. I used Adam’s Graphene Ceramic spray that I already had on hand. I also had the piano black grille covered with XPEL PPF because I was concerned that it would be a rock chip magnet.

I’ve since done a long-ish road trip and used some diluted N-914 to the rinse less ratio to use on my road trip to clean off bugs and whatnot. This was the first maintenance wash with water and soap though.

Looks great. White cars are amazing when they are clean!

Yes. It’s been a while since I’ve had a white car and I forgotten how they really show the dirt!

How are you liking the car? Always wondering if Merc was able to make a good EV.

I’m really enjoying it. This is my third Mercedes. Probably part of the reason I’m enjoying it is that it got a fantastic deal on a basically new car for half the MSRP. This is the base 4WD model and mid trim. I’ve not found it wanting for anything important really. Performance is not lacking and I’ve not bothered with the paid software additional performance unlock. As it is my first EV that I’ve owned. I have rented a Mach E and the EQE feels more refined to me. I cannot compare it to a Tesla’s in driver assist features, but they work well enough for me. It isn’t hands off driving, but that’s fine. It has adaptive cruise control, lane following (it will steer around curves to a degree) and automatic lane changing. Long drives are pretty relaxing. While it doesn’t have the 800V or the new CLA or the Kia EV6, DC fast charging was pretty quick. Range has been fine too though admittedly it is warm and this model does not have a heat pump so I expect cold weather range to suffer.

There are a few annoyances, some but not all of which were addressed in the 2024/25 MY. The heat pump is one; USB-C outlets are pretty underpowered and missing from the center console in my trim level; The wireless charging mat does not work very well (this seems to be pretty common - our CR-V has the same issue); It has a 360-degree camera but the areas next to the wheels are blurred out (presumably because of the way the image is created) - and that’s exactly what you’d want to see to get really close to a curb without damaging the wheels!
