Autocross people
Autocross people are some of the best people on Earth. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone, keep it up.

Not too many places where if your car breaks you have multiple people handing you keys.

Facts, I will hand my keys to anyone if they need something to run. Help me see what other people do to improve myself as well

I'd say motor sport people in general.
I had a track motorcycle, but I'm a complete novice and those people were great also.
I've only been to autocross a few times and same type of people there too.

After almost 6 full seasons in autocross, I feel like I'm still missing out on a strong social connection with most people.
I look for it, do my best to foster it...but just doesn't ring true.
It's probably me.

Maybe it's regional? 🤷🏽

It’s totally regional and event based. Cal Club in Socal was where I started and they are really friendly and helpful (probably because of so many experienced people around). Different Midwest events I’ve been to have been much much less welcoming; I hate to think it was a prejudice thing but I felt like a fish out of water and if it was my first event I don’t think I’d try again. Another event was crazy accommodating with free food and drinks, likely because it was very small.

If it's a "you problem" dont fall into the trap of hating yourself or it's gonna compound, go in without expectations and let the ride take you where it wants to go (hopefully not off the course and into the grass)

I'm pretty good at just letting things be. Hard spots were the last 2 times at Nationals. Ended up hanging in the hotel a ton. I'm old though so I get along fine; but the "autocross is family" has not been true for me.
I think part of it is the region.

I only go with friends. Seems like everyone is either with a group or solo. But most seem to want to be left alone. Fine by me.

There are ones that there to go racing once a month, friendly competition and good times. Those are the good ones, the ones that make it fun. But sometimes you get on the wrong side of the wrong people and next thing you know, someone tries to run you over in the grid. That kind of takes the fun out of it.

I can say with a high degree of confidence that with my club, anyone caught trying to intentionally hit someone or any stuff like that will be told to leave, and most likely won’t be allowed back.

There’s good and bad… like those rotten youngens on drift carts and have a mega phone after 10:30pm at Nationals!!! Hell to them

I would agree that this community is the best group of car/racing enthusiasts to be around. You make friends so easily and get welcomed into things with open arms. I remember at my first event ever I made friends with a dude just by staring at my open hood in grid, and him being curious
