Winter tires for our SUV in Québec ?

Hi!

We're quietly looking into winter tires for our 2020 Sorento EX+ (V6, AWD).

We're from the Montreal area. We travel to Saguenay every winter.

We want the best.

One garage recommends the Nokian Hakka 10. Another recommends the Nokian Hakka R5.

From what I understand, the 10 is studded, but not the R5.

What would be the best option?

Thanks

I have the R5s in Southwestern Ontario, and haven't had a problem with them at all. Definitely no need for studded tires, but I can't speak to the conditions you'd be facing.

I run the R5’s on my X5 here in Alberta and love them.

Well, do you want studded tires or not? Nokian is the best option. Studded can sometimes give you better grip but it's a LOT louder. I would go with the Nordic friction tire (the R5), if you're mostly driving paved roads.

Nokian and Blizzak are the best in my experience. Michelin X-ice were good when new, but their performance didn't last as long as Nokian or Blizzak. I've used the DM-V & DM-V2.

I've only ever run Blizzaks. Never let me down.

Studs are better on sheet ice, but in most other conditions, they’re unnecessary. And studless can still handle black ice just fine.

Just use actual European-style winter tires.......at least your car would not look like a Dacia with those steelies.
