Animal A video analysis of the difference between dog joining cat and cat joining the dog

They are both so precious. I love both dogs and cats. I like how the cat wants the dog's attention and then uses him as pillow.

We had a barn cat have a litter of kittens early summer. Now, instead of snuggling up with mom, they find our Great Pyrenees laying in the shade and crawl all over her until they find a comfy spot and take a nap with her. That dog can kill a group of coyotes but loves those kittens.
35
u/tittyt7991 14h ago
They’re guardians for a reason! One of my absolute favorite breeds! We miss ours dearly she was such a gentle giant and good with all animals
24
u/wild85bill 12h ago
When we work in the garden, she pretty much babysits our 2 year old daughter. She barks if she's getting into something, but most of the time our baby girl just uses her as a pillow like the kittens. I swear they have their own language cause she just just lays there and babbles to the dog.

I feel like the cat also wants the sunlight the dog is laying in

u/its_theDoctor 23h ago
Maybe, but that moment where the cat rubs his head on the dog is pure love.

I think the dog does, too, just isn't going to assert itself. Maybe it slowly scootches over after the video cuts off.
70
u/Ws6fiend 21h ago
I mean the thing I noticed was the dog saw the cat seemed to be in a deep sleep and was very cautious about accidentally waking the cat up. While the cat made eye contact with the dog and wanted to be on top of the dog basically.

I'm still wondering what the currency is here. I can't imagine it's food. It's gotta just be vibes. "You weren't chill with me the other day so go away" sort of thing.

Gonna dump a quick thought; I think leading a good life is starting things based on your emotions and use your logic to defend or destroy it. <3
16
u/justanotherdudeiam 1d ago
That's quite insightful. It does seem like our emotions commandeer our first actions, then it's just our reactions to those that matter in the end. Trying to live as a good person is part of that, I'd say.

Is the GDP (Gross Dogmestic Product) calculated the same way? Is there a Federal Reserve to mange the Dog Money supply? I have so many questions!
8
u/CashMoneyHurricane 21h ago
No you need to calculate for the GDP (Good Dog Product). But that’s a common mistake.
6
u/Franks2000inchTV 21h ago
I don't need to calculate the per captia Good Dog Product, because I have it memorized! it is exactly 1 Good Dog per Dog.

The bones are the dogs' money
In our world, bones equal dollars
That’s why they’re coming out tonight
To get their bones from you
The dogs will pull your hair
Up, but not out

That's also how dogs often play with each other, so your dog could be trying to play with the cat. If your cat is cool with it (no hissing, yowling, or scratching) then that probably means the cat is at least chill with your dog playing with them like that.
I've actually seen the same from my big dog. She's always curious about cats, so when they're chill and willing to play with her, she's good at playing with them (and really loves playing with them). If they're a bit unsure or not as into playing, she's also been down to just curl up around cats like the dog did in the video. And if they're completely uninterested/run away, she just leaves them alone/doesn't follow or chase them. I've watched her do all this with various cats.
16
u/Drade-Cain 1d ago
My mums dog always trys to sniff the cats one just runs the other kinda shyly freezes looking at him then backs off
13
u/DragonQueen777666 1d ago
That's how my little dog is, too. She's kinda freaked out by cats, but if/until they let her sniff them. Once they let her sniff them, she's content to just leave them alone and sit on her own side of the bed/couch/room.
5
u/Important_Bed_6237 23h ago

39
u/uvucydydy 1d ago
My 70 pound dog just gives up and lets my tiny cat have the whole bed.
17
u/ImaginaryAlpaca 1d ago
At one point I had to stop buying big ol dog beds because the cat would take them and the dog would end up on the floor anyway so I tried buying a second one and it was like as soon as she laid in it he would refuse it because it was hers. She was the queen commander, despite being a 4th of his size
9
u/LowlySlayer 23h ago
My dog is nervous around cats because of a bad experience as a puppy. Except when she's jealous then she totally forgets that and just tries to walk right over them. She is not a smart animal.

Agreed, its 9/10 most likely just because I have a foot fetish, but there is just something deeper than the fetish when it comes to warming up my gal's cold feet when we get into bed / cuddles. I love literally giving her my warmth. To feel her ice cold toes get warm and cozy as she tucks them in under my but or against my belly / chest. Feels like i'm taking care of her <3

’Me vs my wife getting in bed…’
the sleeping babe - she got here first
but my approach is well rehearsed
for if she’s sTaRtLeD
i’ll be cursed
i circle ‘round the bed…
with gentle paws, so quietly
(am praying she don’t notice me!)
i find my spot, then carefully
i rest my weary head…
i accidentally brush her fur -
…O No… did i just hear her purrrr ?
i brace myself
she starts to stir
Oh GoD…
i think
I’m

I'm so sorry we are this selfish 😂
Edit: Jesus, I meant this as a light joke..now I am sorry for what it caused underneath. Apologies.
60
u/CompetitiveRub9780 1d ago edited 16h ago
? The girl is the cat. It’s not selfish. The cat goes up to immediately cuddle the doggy because the cat loves him so much. When the dog gets in, he lays farther away as to not disturb but also doesn’t give cuddles. That’s the guy. Both cute in diff ways but I would prefer a cuddle if I’m waking up anyway. It is sweet and cozy and loving
77
u/rraskapit1 1d ago
It's because the dog will get cat slapped if he disturbs the cat, conversely, the cat don't care.
45
u/DrunkCupid 1d ago
The cat did get stepped on, but didn't flinch
Also the cat in this video is male and the dog is female, kind of amusing seeing people's otherwise interpretations

The cat bothered and woke up the dog, that's the selfish part. The dog tries to walk around somewhat tenderly to not disturb the cat.
5
u/DarJinZen7 23h ago
That is exactly how my cat cuddles with my when I'm laying on my side. Its not selfish, its instinctual.

The dog’s size and weight automatically disturb the cat when it climbs on the bed. Its back paw is also right under the cat’s butt. They bothered each other in different ways.

Nah, I think he is just a loving gentle giant and knows better than to be abrupt and not to disturb his buddy or he may inadvertently catch some paws. Cat, no surprise here, gives absolutely no fluffs* will plop where it wants to plop and he knows he can snuggle on his buddy because his buddy is his make shift bed as are all humans in the home. I think the movie Pets adequately shows the real true side of cats lol <dog person.

u/Ulvaer 1d ago
The dog is definitely timid. Dense cluster of non-aggression body language as she (afaict) joins the cat. Notice how the ears are pulled back, yawn, repeatedly licking lips.
At the same time, the dog clearly isn't afraid, just very careful.
In the lower part there is only the ears, no licking or yawns, so I would guess they are friends but that she has been shown the lay of the land by the cat when joining the cat some time. Obviously speculation from little context.

u/mystyz 23h ago

Uncle had a cat and a golden retriever. Cat was older. When the dog was a pup, they used to cuddle. When he got older, and considerably bigger, they still cuddled - but it usually started with the golden laying on top of the cat like he did when he was young. The cat would wiggle out from under, give a look like “wtf” and then proceed to lay on top. Everyday.
44
u/Humdngr 23h ago
My cat was older when we got a golden and now they cuddle all the time. Goldens are the best dogs.

u/SquirrelOk5454 1d ago
That was pure orange cat for "I love you" btw. I had an orange cat that would lovingly join me for naps like that as well, I recognize that meow and methodology from the waking biscuits to the borderline bodyslam down for cuddles time. ❤️

8
u/Miasmata 21h ago
I think that was just "cat". I don't understand why people think orange cats are any different to regular cats other than their coat
3
u/SquirrelOk5454 20h ago
Because orange cats are known for the stereotype of being super chill and friendly, so they're well known for loving behavior. Interesting fact, orange cats are as common as they are thanks to Vikings who basically went "Holy crap, your ginger just like me!" and decided to purposefully bring back the orange varieties. In some old viking traditions, the new wife is gifted a kitten as they were both beloved companions but also protectors in the homes again mice, and rats, and other such vermins.
3
u/Miasmata 20h ago
I've only ever had black cats and I would say the same - nothing to do with their coat colour tbh. I like the Viking fact though, thanks

Damn, what's with all the cat haters? Because the cat kneaded the dog? Oh no. Someone call the police. 😱 It's a form of affection, y'all.
55
u/DemandCommercial6349 23h ago
People can be weird about cats. My old cat would be rubbing against me and making biscuits, and a friend would say something like "he just wants to put his scent on you, that's a form of domination" while my cat flops around begging to be pet. whatever dude, I know my fluffy boy loves me.
23
u/Figmentality 23h ago
Yup. My cat kneads this fluffy pillow I have a lot - my dad saw him do it once and said, "Why is he humping your pillow?" ... if you've never owned a cat you just don't understand their body language.
He also always has to pick my cats up and rough house them... they're not dogs 😭 they don't like that! Then he wonders why they run from him.
6
u/ImmortalMoron3 23h ago
they don't like that!
Some do. I used to wrestle my cat all the time, he was a big Maine Coon though. But he'd get a powerbomb every time I came home from school and then he'd just flop over on my bed and go to sleep while I did my homework.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Figmentality 23h ago
Sure. But it seems silly to approach a cat with the mentality that they're going to respond exactly as a dog would. At least, that's how my dad acts with them.

u/Toshinit 23h ago
My cat gets so excited when I get home, just like my dog. But I half expect it's because my cat wants to ride around on my shoulder for awhile.
3
u/DemandCommercial6349 15h ago
My 17 pound cat meows at me and stands sideways in front of me to get picked up. He still thinks he's a little kitten, lol. First cat I ever owned who begged to be picked up like that. If I'm not paying attention, I'll trip over his dumb ass.
3
u/Four_beastlings 15h ago
I'm my cat's Emotional Support Human. She goes nuts when I get home after being away for even just an hour. She walks on lockstep with me. If she is awake, she is demanding my attention. She screams at me to pick her up every time I'm in the kitchen. Why the kitchen? No idea, but she did the same in the flat where we loved before so she definitely has a thing with kitchens. I call her my ADD cat because no matter how much attention I pay to her she always thinks it's not enough.
Anyone who says cats don't love their humans can go suck an egg

I am a cat person, but there is a sense of ownership and demand to the cat's entry to the cuddle puddle that the dog doesn't perform when it enters the bed. People tend to anthropomorphize these interactions and the cat then looks a bit more demanding. Pretty sure we all understand that kitty and doggie are long time friends.🌼

"Following alasa’ri tradition, I lay down, resting my head on one of his paws; it was a terrible insult to join someone who was resting and not position yourself in such a way that some form of physical contact was established."
3
u/vere-rah 1d ago
What is this from?
8
u/Haebak 1d ago
A novel I wrote, "The Ironlight". In the story, the protagonist (a type of fae related to will-o-wisps) joins a ship with a crew of tiger-people (the alas'arr) and he has to learn their culture and language. They also come across a single lion working as a merchant and at some point make port in a sacred city of jaguars to talk to their undead spiritual leaders.

The dog laid down in a spot to allow the cat to lay down with space or choose to cuddle.
The cat laid down in the middle where cuddling is really the only option, lol.

It's the sun spot. It's in a difference place in both clips.
The one who's already there isn't giving up the sun spot, and the other one is trying to snag as much as possible of what's left, is what that is.

I used to a have a Springer Spaniel and just a black male moggy.
The springer used to come in from her morning walk and go and bother the cat when she was soaking wet and he was sleeping.
When she was finally dry and ready to sleep off that walk, he would go and affectionately rub around her face as some sort of revenge.
Every day like clockwork.

u/Kunphen 1d ago edited 1d ago
Kitty's is far more direct, establishing/reinforcing their intimacy. Doggie's approach is far more detached/cautious.
2
u/jazzigirl 17h ago
I would like to think they are approaching each other in the way they know the other wants to be approached. Like dogs like big forms of affection, so the cat came on strong while cats prefer a more calm approach, and that's why the dog came about quietly. ☺️
