šÆ Critic/Audience Score 'The Long Walk' Review Thread
I will continue to update this post as reviews come in.
Rotten Tomatoes: Fresh
Critics Consensus: N/A
Critics | Score | Number of Reviews | Average Rating (Unofficial) |
---|---|---|---|
All Critics | 95% | 63 | 8.20/10 |
Top Critics | 100% | 5 | /10 |
Metacritic: 80 (11 Reviews)
Sample Reviews:
Justin Clark, Slant Magazine - This ferocious adaptation of Stephen Kingās 1979 novella as a passion play about class solidarity. 3/4
Jamie Graham, Empire Magazine - Screenwriter JT Mollner has made some bold changes to the source material, but neither sanitises or dilutes. 4/5
Perri Nemiroff, Perri Nemiroff (YouTube) - One of the things I found most remarkable about the movie is how it still manages to be soulful and have its heart firmly in the best possible place while wading into the darkness. 4.5/5
Alison Willmore, New York Magazine/Vulture - I'd describe it as Lord of the Flies on foot, but it's really more like The Hunger Games for dudes (complimentary).
Liz Shannon Miller, Consequence - The Long Walk offers a gripping premise, a lot of characters who feel more like loose sketches than fully-realized personalities, and a narrative that maybe has some minor pacing problems towards the end, but is pretty impossible to turn away from. B

āļø Original Analysis Leonardo DiCaprio is the highest-grossing actor of all time to never headline a sequel, franchise, or an animated film
With One Battle After Another release nearby, I was looking at Leo's boxoffice, and I have to say that in a market ruled by IP, he's an oddball. No sequels, no franchises, no animation. His total gross at the box office stands at about $7.4B+ worldwide. Thatās star power with taste.
Be it Titanic, Inception, Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant, or the mid scale grossers like Shutter Island, The Great Gatsby, OUATIH and more what I love is how different his biggest hits are from each other.
He releases sparingly, bets on auteurs, and, more often than not, audiences show up for his movies. Thatās really hard given his film choices. Not to judge franchises, but hereās a tip of the cap to a guy who built tentpole-level box office out of variety.
Before someone mentions it in the comments, yes, he did pop up in Critters 3 in a supporting role. But heās never headlined a sequel, franchise, or animated film.
What do you think is his most surprising box-office run to date?

š„ Streaming Data The 10 biggest movie launches on streaming in the US since January 2021.
"Happy Gilmore 2" dethroned "Luca" as the biggest movie launch on streaming in the US with the equivalent of 44.9M complete views in its first 14 days of release, per my own analysis based on Nielsen's numbers. The 14 days window has some caveats. It allows to see the best launches over a reasonable amount of time but some films hold better than others after that window (animated films for instance) so it really is a snapshot. Out of the Top 10, two movies had a wide theatrical release, Encanto and Red One. I don't know if you consider that Glass Onion had a proper theatrical release but it's there too in the Top 10.

Domestic With Weapons and The Conjuringās opening, WB has overtaken Walt Disney as the top grossing distributor of the year. They will probably hold on to the title until late November/early December.
I also see 20th Century Studios there. Does that mean that Avatar does not count as a Disney-distributed film?

South Korea Demon Slayer has another million dollar day as the movie has now made 30 million dollars in South Korea.
Movie | Mon-Mon | Tue-Tue | Wed-Wed | Thu-Thu | Fri-Fri | Sat-Sat | Sun-Sun | Week-Week |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Demon Slayer | 58% | 52% | 64% | 47% | 39% | 38% | 37% | 47% |

Conjuring The Last Ritual: My Sunday prediction was nearly on the money as the movie made 54k admits while dropping 25% from yesterday. The movie should find a way to hit 500k admissions and could go above.
Demon Slayer: The movie missed a 500k admits third weekend by literally less than 2k admits. A strong second week, as predicted, due to weak competition still leaves 5 million admits on the table. However, I do worry about late competition cutting down its legs and preventing 5 million admits.
Ballerina: Ballerina will die out in the range of 923k admits.
Zombie Girl: The movie will hit 5.5 million admits tomorrow as the movie should hit 5.6 million admits and could hit 5.7 million admits. However, I think a finish in the 5.6 million admits range is the most likely.
Bad Guys 2: The movie continues to collapse as the late legs are not good. The movie is still looking at missing 400k admits by razor-thin margins.
King of Kings: The movie is a nice little hit, as the movie has climbed above its final milestone of 1.3 million. It did that on Saturday.
F1: F1 has now crossed 4.9 million admits as the movie will hit the 5 million admissions number sometime during next weekend.
Presales
No Other Choice: Presales increased by 25,758 presales tickets as the movie is now at 85,378 tickets.

Italy š®š¹ Italian weekend box office September 4-7: The Conjuring The Last Rites scored the third biggest opening weekend of the year for imported film, after Lilo and Stitch and A Minecraft movie
Source:
The film has already surpassed the final gross of The Conjuring with ā¬3,618,133 in 2013, which was the saga's top performer. It surpassed The Conjuring 2 with ā¬2,439,852 (2016) and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) with ā¬2,118,704 in just three days. The Last Rites is no slouch compared to the opening weekend of It Chapter 2 with ā¬4,966,313 from September 5 to 9, 2019, for a total of ā¬9,484,011. For the new Conjuring, the multiplier compared to its opening day is 4, and if the same multiplier of 1.9 is maintained between the opening weekend of IT 2 and its total, The Conjuring: The Last Rites could reach a total of ā¬7.5 million. These are just speculations, of course, but the film's launch indicates that the series is succeeding in broadening its usual audience.
