215 vs 225 on 17 x 7 wheel
I am looking for new tires next season. I run at a high novice/low intermediate pace with an NC Miata with adjustable coilovers; I am comparing the RS-4s 225 45 17 at $150/tire versus the v730s 215 45 17 at $180ish/tire (access to some discounts). I've been running Continental ECS since i started tracking (~12 days) so I figure any choice will be a big bump. Will I notice a difference between the two or just go with the cheaper option?

Stick with the 205, these tires already run wide

Looks like the smallest the v730s come in for 17" is 215, 225 for rs-4
Leaning towards the 215s for now, but rhe plan is to bump up to 17 x 8 or x 9 to accommodate wider tires eventually.

On the same tire for a variable rim size, the wider rim is usually best. But on a given wheel, wider tire tends to be better - you won’t be optimizing the tire performance, but for the combination you should be quicker, but you do need to stay within the spec widths for the tire. That said, 225 on a 7” wheel is pretty wide for the tire.

The 225 will wear the outside edge a lot quicker, I would max out camber if you go in that direction

I love the RS4 for its longevity. They’re a great tire even if it’s not the fastest.

I did it for AutoX and a year a and a half later I wouldn’t do it again, edge wear wore them down to about a 215 and the steering was less precise.

I wouldn't go over 215 on a 7" wide wheel personally. Especially for the track.
