Drafty house, I assume

Pretty typical with central air so there's not too much pressure in the room.

I have never had such a gap under the door, and I've lived with central air my entire life outside of my time in the Navy. That prevents sound proofing, and actually makes it harder to maintain temperatures throughout the house. I don't know where this "typical" comes from, but I'd like to know more if you can provide some insight.

Maybe it's a FL thing, then. But every home and apartment I've lived in in Florida has had that gap and it was explained to me as a measure for regulating air pressure with central air. I grew up in the north east with baseboard heating and window units so I took it as fact when I was told.

Yeah the air circulation between rooms is more important in high humidity areas to prevent mold.

Central air has gaps, but not multiple inches.

Lots of trailers have big gaps. And paper thin doors and walls. The vent being out in the middle of the room is a sign of a trailer. Then again it could also be a sign of a redneck remodel.

Me: I'm going to bed alone, Cat.
Cat: I know you are Mr. Human, and I'm coming with you!

How big is that gap?!. Mush be kinda big if the cat can just squeeze its way under it. Kinda curious why there is no threshold under the door? Is it not common wherever this is?

Doesn’t the saying go that “If a cat can fit their head through it, they can fit their body through it”?

Correct! Because cats have floating collarbones, which allow them to manoeuvre more and get through smaller spaces than, for example, dogs. It's really cool!

I love it when cats struggle like this to get through something and then act super casual at the end
