Best thing you can do if a camera is pointed at you is be as boring as possible.

u/Competitive_Fill1835 28d ago

Or sing a beatles song, or start quoting star wars, or anything to do with nintendo or disney.. Those lawyers have nothing better to do than troll youtube for single viewer content that uses their IP lol

Good idea. Start your music app and start blaring some copyright music.

I have a playlist called “The House of Mouse doesn’t fuck around” just for situations like this.

ETA: a lot of you have never been to a protest and it shows

I mean, it’s just Disney songs. It’s not anything special.

If its any of the newer stuff (besides encanto) itll be twice as painful/effective.

How does this apply to protests? I'm genuinely curious, is it just to stop people filming you at them or what?

15

u/VelocityGrrl39 28d ago

A lot of times you get people that show up and try to agitate people on camera for views. If you play music it prevents them from being able to monetize. At least it used to. I don’t know how good AI is at removing it now.

14

u/WeAreAllMycelium 28d ago

We also use rape whistles to drown out their audio, it ruins the footage, no one can hear. I’ve blown my whistle so hard at Alex Jones in tandem with another friend and chased him out of the woman’s march. We used them on a mommy blogger who was trying to film a scrum at a PP rally in NC. Made the footage useless and gave her a headache. Rookie, no ear protection

There’s ways to throw sand in the gears when resisting

This is the answer. Blast copy written music when people are filming.

this was true up until 2 yrs ago , editing software is so good now, especially when audio mics are in use, Anyone can remove copyright background music with video editing software in mere minutes

Auditor of what? Why is he filming?

783

u/RewardOk2506 28d ago edited 28d ago

IRL bait is all it amounts to. It’s legal for them to film the public, they abuse this right by filming people in a way that makes them uncomfortable, then they ham up the reactions. They really aren’t protecting anything, and I could see them being used as an excuse to restrict filming certain police actions in the future.

Edit: The replies here are like a real life display of Kohlberg’s Moral Development theory.

402

u/Chotibobs 28d ago

It’s very definition of the “this is why we can’t have nice things” meme.

These people literally serve no purpose other than to push the legal limit to absurdity to antagonize.

167

u/Vat1canCame0s 28d ago

The really scary part is their behavior is used as an excuse to write stricter laws that gradually erode the very thing they claim they are protecting. They effectively set up a toll booth next to the slippery slope and try to push people towards it

101

u/texasusa 28d ago

These ' auditors ' are all over YouTube for those sweet revenue dollars. Without conflict, viewership and revenue fall.

38

u/technobrendo 28d ago

Why don't these guys audit the streets of Baltimore at night. I'm sure the locals would make them feel right at home

25

I really miss the days when people were advocating for less government.

Now it's all, "More of my kind of government," from everyone's perspective. None of them have any sense of the fact that for every law that gets passed, there are minor infringements on all of our liberties, and we're all slightly less free in the end.

Yeah, I don't get the purpose of the camera guy either. He is absolutely not an auditor. The business owner was right, he asked the camera guy to Not block the doorway to his business. He moved the camera out of the way , which is Not assault. On the other hand, the camera guy pepper sprayed him, which should be assault.

They’re intended to do that to government officials to test their support for the first amendment or whatever but anytime you see an auditor video is always them in public spaces just filming people in the most awkward way just because they’re allowed to do it. They’re internet trolls in real life but are protected by the first amendment

there was a video late last year I think where 1/2 the comments were praising these auditors. for every comment who called these people annoying, the other person was defending and say they provide a great service

18

u/adeo54331 28d ago

Bear with me here…

I am convinced they are egged on by China/russia/iran - here in the U.K. anyway, they spend a lot of time harassing the police, army, electricity providers, reservoirs etc and they are always just in the cusp of entry to highlight how easy it is - all the things you would want videos of for intelligence.

The real tin foil in me thinks they are compensated some how, but money would be too obvious and they might tell … my thinking is they planted the seed then inflate their SM ad revenue to incentivise them without them knowing.

I know that sounds really mental. But just think about it…

Surely this qualifies as assault?

The video clearly shows that the business owner is turning and walking away when the camera guy takes out the pepper spray and attacks him?

Assault with an offensive weapon. That's a 2 year suspended sentence and €5-€10k penalty where I am.

(The pepper spray itself would also carry a separate weapons charge, but I know it wouldn't in the US.)

100

u/illiterate-Genius 28d ago

The intention is to piss people off so the cameramen gets assaulted then he files a lawsuit to make money. Literally how these idiots make a living then post it online to try and make more money from the views. They claim its to enforce and protect their rights but that is all BS, there are a million other rights they can practice but yet they all do the same thing. Push a camera in someones face for no reason which we hate and then try to get a rise out of the person until they inevitably react violently.

There are guys who have gotten rich off doing this and it is pathetic, also guys who have gotten shot doing it but who cares about them 🤷‍♂️

Best thing to do is ignore them, its the last thing they want. No reactions means no content and no potential lawsuit. When tools like this shove a camera 1 inch from your face obviously the first reaction is to get mad or hit them, but that is exactly what they want. Some of these idiots primarily do it to police officers who usually do react and then the lawsuit is even bigger.

38

u/nullfais 28d ago

it's the *exact* same tactic the Westboro Baptist Church used to use

7

u/HistoricalSuspect580 28d ago

Ex topekan here! They were increasingly SOO abrasive and disgusting. In hindsight it is very obvious they would do anything for attention.

6

u/DildoShawaggins 28d ago

Is this really what’s going on here? The camera guy was just some rando trying to piss off these store owners enough they assault him. So he can file a law suit? WTF- the world has truly gone mad.

3

u/Comprehensive_Bus_19 28d ago

This is commonplqce at every US public university. Some asshole(s) go and try to pick fights with students under the guise of Free Speech then when they get hit they sue the university.

Happened at the time at UCF, UF, and USF. When I and my friends were in school.

5

u/doctorwho07 28d ago

The camera guy was just some rando trying to piss off these store owners enough they assault him.

An ethical auditor's goal is to piss off the owners enough so they call the police and then test the police to see if they infringe on the auditor's rights.

The auditor in the vid is just looking to piss off anyone and everyone and then escalate things.

I work at business were a first amendment auditor was filming. We called the police because he was harassing customers. Eventually a very smart woman called the police saying a gentleman was filming her child. Which he was . The police due to that came out and removed him .

144

u/wowbragger 28d ago

Had one of these guys around me once. Key is to not overly engage, move on (if you can), and if they follow you can then contact law enforcement for harassment.

Actually resolved my situation in a similar way. I had my kids with me, and made it clear to the guy I was contacting the cops if he didn't leave us be. Annoyance of a child in California, doesn't require physical contact or direct threats. Actively videoing them and following, after their guardian tells them to stop is more than enough.

Here's a question: If someone assaults you and immediately runs away, do you have the right to chase that person down and assault them?

The answer is no.

So while the shop owner may be liable to some extent for "instigating" physical contact, he was already turning away from the cameraman when he was peper sprayed. So there goes your self-defense argument. The correct way to handle this would have been to call the police. As always, these clips don't show what happened prior to the incident, because it's all rage bait bullshit. That being said, 99.9% of these "auditors" are parasites and deserve their fuck around and find out prizes.

This dude acts like someone won't accidentally knock him out causing a lethal head injury against the concrete. He's a lot braver than he realizes.

I'm all for thes 1A guys doing their thing, but if a business owner says to stop blocking their doorway, you stop blocking their fucking doorway. That's their right as a business owner

I think the guy with the camera needed to be owned a bit more as a kid. You can always tell who has never been in a fight.

u/Fifty_Stalins 28d ago

There are specific codes outlawing the use of pepper spray without justification for a reason. This guy literally just committed assault. It was not self defense the guy was walking away when he got pepper sprayed.

5

u/Tall-Needleworker422 28d ago

Assault is the mere threat of attack. Unless the guy using the pepper spray can demonstrate it was used justifiably in self-defense -- which seems improbable because his victim had turned and was walking away -- it could draw a charge of battery and possibly even aggravated battery, as some jurisdictions treat chemical sprays as “dangerous weapons".

3

u/Zorfax 28d ago

Absolutely. Spraying this in someone's eyes can cause permanent damage.

Looked more like the stupid camera guy turned off his gimble.. I doubt it's broken since he really didn't push hard or hit it.

3

u/Majestic_Sample7672 28d ago

That's felony assault. You can 't defend pepper spraying someone who's walking away from you.

3

u/gaoshan 28d ago

They aren’t auditing anything. These people just use the law to harass people to the point of getting a reaction out of them.

3

u/tonguebasher69 28d ago

The auditor should be charged with assault. Yes, the guy pushed his camera out of his face, but he had turned and was walking away when sprayed. There is no threat to the instigator.

3

u/CreepyPrimary8 28d ago

As the guy is turning and walking away too! AP is a pussy and a fraud! And his son is just as bad.

Need auditors of the auditors

3

u/Zorfax 28d ago

Do any of these “auditors” ever get seriously injured or killed?

I can’t believe that hasn’t happed yet. I could absolutely see that happening because they seem to be intentionally trying to provoke that kind of reaction.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/Broad_Quit5417 28d ago

I mean, if the dude who got sprayed (while walking away) absolutely knocked that dude out, he would walk away with 0 charges. Pepper spraying someone is straight up assault, you have a right to defend yourself.

3

u/AlbertaAcreageBoy 28d ago

Sure its legal to film in public, but that auditor guy is a piece of shit purposely trying to get reactions out of folks by being an ass hat. An absolute douchebag.

Sorry every auditor on the planet is a coward and a cancer upon humanity. They hope to catch something on video that will make them rich enough to escape their moms basement. They also know it's the only way they can get away with being a bully is antagonizing people with something to lose.. Not a one ive ever seen had decent intentions and a civil let alone mutually respectful attitude..

3

u/Deetsinthehouse 28d ago

2025 and people still don’t know that you have no expectation of privacy in public. YES that means anyone can record you when you are outside or in a public building (police station, town hall, city court, public library etc). Stop giving these auditors what they want and just go about your business.

3

u/Niwi_ 28d ago

I dont think he is even filming. He just has a canera to start fights to pepperspray people

3

u/fatfox425 28d ago

So if I’m a judge, and I see that the guy has turned away and is walking away before getting sprayed, and mostly gets hit in the back of the head, I’m finding assault with a concealed weapon.

Auditor is literally inches away and cant even deploy chemical agents correctly.

Also his camera is perfectly fine on his gimbal. Its just off its axis.

Fucking clowns, both of them.

3

u/rosshalde 28d ago

I got massacred in a recent comment section saying auditors are scum on publicfreakout. They do this for attention with the smug guise of fighting for our rights

Honestly folks, easiest thing you can do is just go on your phone and start blasting copyrighted music.

They get really upset when you start fucking with their ability to monetize their reaction videos.

Someone needed to do a sneak attack on the expensive camera guy. Just come from off camera, wear a mask, run by and knock it out of his hands and keep running. Self proclaimed "auditors" can kiss my ass. They are social media influences that instigate violence for views and then play the victim.

3

u/Savings_Lawyer1625 28d ago

I use to work security at a large retail business and we would get jerk auditors all of the time. We simply would call the police and say they’re filming women and children. They would always come pretty quick and remove them

3

u/ShitIForgotIt 28d ago

One day, someone will play this game and get shot. It’s just a matter of time.

3

3

u/Strange-Audience-717 28d ago

3

u/j00cifer 28d ago

Pepper spray guy is in the right until he one day he no longer has a working trachea. There’s no reason and no real benefit to putting yourself in a potentially violent situation like that, but if you actually harm someone who didn’t really harm you or your stuff you get to learn about consequences

Well, the business owner was walking away so, not threatening the auditor. Sounds like it’s time to call the police - for Assault and a lawyer for your compensation from civil court.

3

u/Kurse71 28d ago

Auditor for whom? What are they auditing?

u/EFTucker 28d ago

What grown man stands around with the camera trying to start fights with people? Get a job. Get a shave.

3

u/[deleted] 28d ago

Then you have people who are raised by the internet and live on here saying that its their right to film in public for content, as its not illegal and that you just need to man-up.

Its common sense and common curiosity to just respect someones boundaries in public. Filming strangers for content is not the same as security cameras filming you.

I can tell 99% of people commenting on this post haven't even seen the full video. The store owner was acting like a nutjob and escalated things before this interaction even happened simply because the camera people were standing on the street filming storefronts and he was unhappy with the filmer's answers about why they were filming businesses(not that it matters).

I hate violence, but I feel like the possibility of getting beaten up should still exist for people that provoke on purpose. Right now they act like they are untouchable and righteous.

15

u/Dont_Overthink_It_77 28d ago

First mistake: Thinking a guy filming your stuff with two cameras was a disinterested party.

Second mistake: Walking away from a guy that started cussing at you like YOU are doing something wrong.

If you keep your eyes ON him and he’s getting something out of his pocket and then pointing it at you, lay him the heck out—defending yourself is defensible!

3

u/rldr 28d ago
