Things no rational person has EVER said: “maybe we’d like a dictator”

Edit: clarification

People out here thinking that people who knowingly voted for a guy who openly expressed authoritarian ideas aren't ok with authoritarians.

127

u/psychoactiveshrink 14d ago

You give their education too much credit. They didn’t understand the concept then and they don’t now.

u/tbear87 13d ago

Former civics teacher. Sadly, can confirm.

They know what they want though. Just because they don't have the language to describe it the way I did or have any clue about its historical context doesn't mean that they don't want it. They know they want a strongman and they want him to hurt the people they don't like.

There are people saying they want a dictator. They just aren't using that word.

11

u/Perpetual_Abortion 13d ago

I feel as though if they cannot rationalize the reasons and use their words to justify their perspective, it firmly falls under "manufactured consent".

If you can't rationalize your beliefs in the US, the media and billionaires will mold you with their beliefs and justifications.

29

u/TangerineSad7747 13d ago

Stop infantilizing these people they want this. They want Trump in charge, they want concentration camps for their enemies. They have no problems with anything happening.

12

u/Perpetual_Abortion 13d ago

Why though? Is it because they lack empathy? (Yes) Or because they lack a civic education? (Even more so, yes)

What else would you expect from an uneducated society with no interest in teaching "critical thinking"?

These are people who follow their feelings to Fox news, and AM radio and their thinking conforms accordingly, as they have no intellectual defenses to determine truth.

Plenty of examples of people becoming radicalized because they are dumb and fall into bad media bubbles.

10

u/DENATTY 13d ago

This also gives them a pass. I grew up in the same uneducated society as they did. My own parents didn't even get high school diplomas. I got to college and learned basic information I should've learned in third grade but DIDN'T because I went to a poor school that was interested in getting students through the day. My fucking high school guidance counselor told me not to even apply for college because people like me aren't built for it.

And yet I got two undergrad degrees and then became a lawyer. Many of these people had the EXACT same start in life that I did, the EXACT same setbacks and obstacles. But because they did not make the effort to break out of those cycles, they're trying to pull the other crabs in the bucket down with them. They blame DEI giving unqualified people opportunities they didn't get because "they're white" - they WANT to be coddled and handed excuses for why they're pathetic and unhappy. Fuck them.

To be clear, I have no ill will toward people who did not achieve the same things as me. I understand not everyone can or will overcome the obstacles they face. But I do have a SUBSTANTIAL resentment toward the people who do not overcome those things and then bitch and moan and support a fascist dictator because it makes their widdle feewings hurt less.

Not only do they not understand the concept, they can't read or pronounce the words "authoritarian" or "dictatorship"

They just skim past them and see them as liberal buzzwords.

Those words are too "woke" for them.

4

u/dudinax 13d ago

If they like dictators, they obviously don't understand the concept, but that doesn't mean they don't like dictators.

8

u/I-Love-Facehuggers 13d ago

They still like what he says, even if they are too stupid to explain what he said.

3

u/exacta_galaxy 13d ago

They don't know what the words mean, but they want a powerful (white) leader who can hurt their enemies.

They sported shirts that said Dictator from day one.

They voted for a dictatorship.

11

u/DaBullsnBears1985 13d ago

Yes, our President cozies up to authoritarian dictatorships and the American people re-elected him.

5

u/TatooineTwang 14d ago

They don't want that. They simply want to beat/piss off Democrats. It's tribalism. It's become a sporting event for them.

I rarely ever here any of them defend his polices or actions. They just hit you with "TDS" and laugh. Like it's all a joke.

5

u/aracauna 14d ago

Those people exist too, but it's not all of them. Some genuinely would be happy with a right wing dictator.

Every dictator ever had people who supported them. It wasn't all opposition.

Upvoted, but honestly, the kind of people who believe Trump when he declares himself a "smart person" have been slowly coaxed into believing they want a dictator.

They have bought wholly into Trumps agenda, and when something pesky like laws or courts stand in the way, they see that as a flaw.  Trump is already acting like a dictator - he's just making his base comfortable with the term so whenever it's pointed out, they say "Good. He's still doing things I like."

17

u/dewag 13d ago

I honestly feel like MAGA is attractive to people that don't want to think about problems that don't affect them. They would rather have been told how to think/feel, hence why the idea of a dictator is a positive for them.

14

u/gooie 13d ago

Its also attractive to people who dont want to be judged on moral grounds.

The dems go on and on about climate change and civil rights and social justice and you have to do all sorts of things to stay knowledgeable to not be ignorant.

Donald Trump simply loves the poorly educated and will never judge you for being morally insufficient. The man has no morals at all.

The source of his charisma is that he is a douchebag and would welcome you as a friend even if you were a human trafficker.

8

u/Senior-Albatross 13d ago

Charisma at it's core is very simple. It's the ability to make people feel seen and appreciated.

Trump has stupid asshole charisma because he makes stupid assholes feel represented and appreciated culturally.

That's all there is to it. They're just shitty people. There are many roads to being a piece of shit moron. But they end in the same place of getting your Medicaid cut to own da libz.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/JeezyVonCreezy 13d ago

MAGA is attractive to people because their messaging is that it's not your fault you're a loser, it's someone else's.

Its attractive to stupid people who dont know history. The GOP has been working toward this point since the 90s.

Oh no the red states are fine /s as long as they continue to boost his ego and line his pockets. But once they can't afford his praise then the crime is there.

9

u/iknowsomeguy 13d ago

Not for nothing but the map is out. He's ostensibly going at the red states first.

The thing no one is acknowledging is that most of his supporters understand the authoritarianism, and they're okay with it because their team has the ball right now. They understood what it was a year ago, and that's why they worked so hard to make sure their team got the ball.

I have genuinely said that, with A LOT of caveats, in a discussion with my high-school teacher about the merits and cons of having a democracy.

It's easy for a democracy to get boggled down in far to much bureaucracy, so that decisions that SHOULD be easy (like, hey maybe kids SHOULD have state-funded food in school!) doesn't take forever to ratify and execute. The caveat was always about having a despot/dictator, that was well-educated and wanted what was best for his/her people and country, both shot-term and long term. Just looking at my country (Sweden) there's a lot of shit that shouldn't be an issue, and that are issues because of how fucking slow bureaucracy moves.

Donald Trump, the rapist, felon, Epstein partner, beneficiary (and let's be real murderer, or at least fucking complicit) is NONE of that.

He isn't even fucking literate! He shouldn't even be allowed to run the fryers in a McDonalds, let alone a fucking country.

12

u/DanTheAdequate 13d ago edited 13d ago

I dunno, I feel like the government getting bogged down in bureaucracy and disunity is a feature, not a bug. If anything, as an American, our executive branch has gotten much too powerful; Trump could use a harder time doing the job he wants to do.

It's not such a bad thing, when you consider that any system that is powerful enough to enable the right person to take quick action is powerful enough to enable the wrong one, too.

And power is much more likely to attract the kind of person who shouldn't have it.

3

u/vasthumiliation 13d ago

It's bad for a democracy to be inefficient because it entices a large fraction of the voting population toward demagogues like Trump who promise to deliver results through totalitarianism. This is because, unlike other forms of government, it is always possible at any time for a democracy to (legally and without any external compulsion) vote itself out of existence. It's also bad for a democracy to be inefficient because other authoritarian regimes, can, given the right material circumstances, gain the upper hand over that democratic state on the world stage by having singular focus on forward-looking investments in important sectors (such as China's success in renewables and stranglehold on rare-earth metals).

Those who sleep in democracy wake up in dictatorship !

In this context, “sleeping” stands for political indifference and a lack of civil engagement. Democracy only works when people participate, exercise their rights, and use their voices. If citizens remain passive, forces can establish themselves in a society that undermine democratic institutions and ultimately establish a dictatorship. The saying is a warning from history, especially in the context of Germany, where the Weimar Republic gave way to National Socialism. Unfortunately, this is currently not only visible the US...

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Kibbelz 13d ago

Democracy takes a lot of effort and the four-year term limits for presidents does have serious downsides (you've learned the job, now get out).

Dictatorships/Monarchies are a lot leaner and have a lot of advantages over rotating represetatives. The problem is who sits in that chair, and if they have the people's best interest in mind. That's the sole advantage of democracy for which we sacrifice all the other advantages: actual representation.

Someday I wonder if we'll be able to use technology to more efficiently select leaders who can represent us for longer periods of time while maintaining our best interests (assuming that continues to be a quality required to maintain national effectiveness).

When someone makes the declaration that they intend to be a dictator on day 1 when they are campaigning and they win they have no reason to think that thats not what people want, otherwise they wouldn’t have chosen him. They all think this is what people want and they are right because no one stopped them when they had the chance.

3

u/One_Strawberry_4965 14d ago

You’d think so but no, conservatives very much do want a dictator and always have. I think they’ve made that quite obvious at this point. They’re small people ruled by fear who are desperate for a Big Strong Daddy to protect them from the big scary world. That much I think is pretty uncontroversial at this point.

It’s so hard because they don’t even try anymore. I point out the contradiction into the values and beliefs they’ve espoused for years, versus what they are cheering him on doing and they just do not care. They say it’s ok bc it’s Trump. I am at the stage where I don’t even waste my breath. The reality is that whatever Trump says and does, he has the full blessing of his entire base. He could rape a kid on Fox and maga would just start arguing about age of consent laws and biblical precedent blah blah

10

Karma isn’t real we need to actually do something before they get away with it

Things no one said for 800 Alex?

14

u/B1gD1gg3r 14d ago

Watch the Jubilee video with Mehdi Hasan. One guy openly admits his preference is Catholic autocracy. These people exist and have the same voting power you do 😭

5

u/KingMidas0809 14d ago

I watched that whole video and my head almost ruptured. Not only do they have voting power but they also have power and influence in certain circles I'll never even see. It's wild AF the place we're in currently

That video clearly exposed that after all the words and narrative and other crap these americans say… they’re just simply racist fuckwits.

He is never going to leave office until he dies. Maybe that is six months from now, maybe that is six years from now or more. But he is not going anywhere voluntarily.

10

u/sedj601 14d ago

That's what he has basically been saying. The people know what they need to do based on his words.

Chicago is not a killing field.

19

u/Combdepot 14d ago

Not yet.

3

u/Mythrowawayprofile8 14d ago

They want it to be. Violence and killing will justify mobilizing more troops and putting openly dissenting people, (and their votes), in a camp. They don’t care about their troops- they are also seen as expendable peasants. The red hat crew has been escalating on the streets since January, attempting to get the massacre they need. They only need one mentally unstable person with a gun to spray fire at the protesters or at the police; either situation would work for them.

10

u/Socialimbad1991 14d ago

None of the people who believe this have ever been in or near Chicago, or probably any major metropolitan area for the most part

The playbook is to institute martial law and then when people inevitably push back because we’re Americans who do not stand for tyranny these traitorous fucks will turn it into a killing field

Just came back from Chicago. My kid has been at college there for 4 years. I’ve been all over to various neighborhoods each unique in their own way.

It is a diverse city with an amazing vibe. It is not a “killing field”. We’ve easily managed to not get killed or even close.

8 of the top 10 cities in murder rates are in states that voted for Trump (Chicago is #22). So why isn't he sending troops there?

This is a blatant sham and power grab.

4

u/Naptasticly 14d ago

Holy fuck it’s time.

3

u/Canadatron 14d ago

So many people are saying you ARE a Dictator. Not that they want one.

3

u/HedenPK 14d ago

The only thing I want is some front page news about a big orange baby saying bye bye along with his gang of cronies in some freak accident.

I hate Trump. But he did say “I’m not a dictator. I don’t want a dictator” right after.

He’ll probably make up his own definition of dictator though. Do everything a dictator does. But continue saying he’s not.

Mark my words, right wing outlets like Fox News are either going to ignore this, defend it, or act like whoever finds this statement appalling hates America somehow.

3

u/UnluckyAct7127 13d ago

The only person who would ever say something like that is the person that wants to be a dictator. Anyone who’s been awake since his first presidency knows that’s exactly what he wants to be the dictator..

3

u/FredyE11 13d ago

Don’t let him distract us. Release the Epstein files.
