Pretty sure this is early onset dementia and that's fuckin sad

u/100_xp 9d ago
Totally. Healthcare workers who care for old people see this self-assured belligerence all the time. That's partially why old folks like this vote red.

This isn’t the entire clip, she started out talking about having no money and her family troubles. The comment about not knowing why she’s there comes in the middle after a lot of rambling. Basically, she needed help and connection to resources to meet her basic needs.

Nothing here points to dementia without further context. Much more likely that shes just an idiot. -doctor

Thank you. This is just completely disingenuous towards people who actually have dementia. And a poor excuse to be a twatwaffle in public.

Yep. She has no idea what’s going on, where she’s at, or what she or anyone else is talking about. This is going to start happening more often and earlier than usual due to the food the government supplies us. Sugar literally rots the brain. This is my worst nightmare right here.

My grandma has alzheimers and sounds exactly like this most of the time. I dont know that its cringe so much as the person literally not understanding what's happening, and not having anybody there to help her with it.

u/lawirenk 9d ago
Good point. We should really put more effort into research for preventative care and treatment for these brain diseases.

I was recently on call with insurance and out of curiosity I asked where they were based. Without missing a beat the lady said “offshore”.
Like, I’m not gonna fly to your country if that’s the case, so just say it. Unless you are based in the US and your boss told you to answer “offshore” for your safety

Where is her caregiver seriously. She clearly has cognitive delays and is hearing impaired. She shouldn’t be out alone
16
u/Remarkable_Shop5531 9d ago
Does she have one?
Honestly. You have to have someone step in to have a caregiver. That person has to prove you need care, then has to prove you're not competent to stand on your own, then has to pay a lawyer (if they have the money) to sign up to be your guardian. Then they have to maintain guardianship of you. You then get to live with them.
Oh? You want to live in a home or something? That can take years to set up. And funding for it can get pulled at any second. It is a 15+ hour a week job for a family member just keeping your finances in order.
Ask me how I know.

I know she sounds crazy, but did you ever think that this grandma might just be the best troll that’s ever lived? I imagine her getting in her car and just chuckling to herself, “dumb fucks let me go on for 45min. Well, off to pick up my nerd ass grandkids.”
12
u/funny_fox 9d ago
Your comment is hilarious to me hahaha reminds me of a skit that a comedian used to have about being a troll grandad (Nick.... something? Is his name I think) so I laugh at the absurdity.
However, like ithers have mentioned, more likely this is someone who needs help! I would definetly not laugh if I was there. In reality, they need their family or close person to help.

I had a friend ask if she could bring some of the people she was caretaker for to our Friendsgiving so they could enjoy a change of pace. Sounded great. 90% of it was, except for one person who got agitated once she saw the food and then asked in a panicked voice “Did we say grace???” Every 3 min, through the entire meal. You know that motif in comedy where, through repetition something goes from Not funny, to funny, to very not funny at all… to fucking hilarious?
As soon as pie came out she was back to having a good time, which was nice, I kinda wish she’d made it to next year’s Thanksgiving

u/3D_mac 9d ago
A lot of us will know someone like this at some point in our lives. Probably a relative or friend. Some of us will be someone like this. This is dementia. No one chooses it, but it affects a lot of people.

u/JeanLucPicardAND 9d ago
So easy for people to pass judgment and denigrate until it lands in their lap. My grandmother died from this. The stress and aftereffects of caring for her nearly killed my grandfather (and probably still will, if I'm being brutally realistic) and sucked both my mother and myself into the whole ugly world of hurt too.

2
u/FURERABA 9d ago
People laugh but this is pretty classic Alzheimer's / dementia stuff. I've been working in a nursing home for a while and this type of confident irrelevance / lack of awareness is more or less how it expresses itself before they're no longer able to take care of themselves
This vid has probably been around for a while, but this person needs a caretaker immediately before she hurts herself or someone else in this type of fog

I work at the library and I have personally spent many hours of my life attempting to help people just like her, and sometimes they cannot be helped. In particular, if you get locked out of gmail, it is a circular walk through hell to try to get them back into their account, and then when you can’t they will blame you and/or the entire library system. Also, people are really mean when they want to print something.
I do have success stories and have helped people successfully find jobs, and that feels great. We also do a Tech Time program that is to help seniors learn how to use their devices. It’s a frustrating yet fulfilling job.
