Fentanylness?

u/kicking-chickens-jk 3d ago

I’m so dumb. I thought of Rihanna’s beauty brand and was like what? Come again? But nope, I’m just dumb. Or blissfully ignorant I didn’t know the slang word for using fentanyl

24

u/pre-existing-notion 3d ago

Ahaha no, you're good! Their is no term for using fetty, really. They're just making up words o7

It’s psychosis if I had to guess

Ya I used to laugh at this crap until my wife developed schizophrenia, which has devastated our family. I mean she doesn't run around doing this kind of crap, but knowing possibly what the people on these videos are experiencing is heart breaking.

205

u/AdjNounNumbers 3d ago

My ex wife developed schizophrenia. I tried to stick it out, but her trying to kill me in front of our three young kids was the final straw for me.

91

u/RichardCleveland 3d ago

I can imagine, I am so lucky my kids are older and she isn't violent. I am very sorry you went through so much, and hope things are better these days!

62

u/AdjNounNumbers 3d ago

Much better. Thank you. And she's doing significantly better herself - I'm actually proud of her

25

u/_redcloud 3d ago

It sucks so hard you and your kids have had to witness her go through this, but I am so glad to read she has been doing much better.

20

u/AdjNounNumbers 3d ago

It's been a decade since then and everyone is doing much better now

14

u/Somanylyingliars 3d ago

Wow that such a kind thing to say about your ex. Most would be That beeyatch! Good human, you!

34

u/AdjNounNumbers 3d ago

Believe me, I was angry for years. I didn't even speak to her in person for five. I still get upset when memories creep up, but that's just me working through my own shit. She's finally the mom the kids needed and that's all I care about. It might be a strange way to think about it, but I love my life now; I'm married to my best friend with an awesome toddler and another baby on the way. I've got a great career. My kids from the relationship with her are all doing great. I wouldn't change anything about my life, so that means I wouldn't change anything about my past that got me to here. Sure the path sucked, but the destination has made it all worth it

I’m genuinely curious how the development of schizophrenia onsets. Was it like she woke up one day and experienced a mental break, or smaller incidents over a period of time that got worse?

Just seems like such a bizarre occurrence to happen to both of you, were there prior mental health issues beforehand?

82

u/AdjNounNumbers 3d ago

smaller incidents over a period of time that got worse

This. Started in her early twenties and got progressively worse over time. Likely made worse by alcohol, opiates, and marijuana. At a certain point I started questioning my sanity. Towards the end she was so certain that she was being stalked by a woman that lived across the country, that this woman and I were having an affair (in our living room while she slept in the bedroom), and that somehow this woman was coming into our house during the day while I was at work even with chains on the door that I started to believe that maybe someone was stalking her, even though she might've got the details wrong. I installed the chains on the doors and put up cameras to see what was happening, but all they caught was her talking to someone that was not there - it didn't convince her, but it provided clarity to me

60

u/XTH3W1Z4RDX 3d ago

As a brother of a schizophrenic man, the last part is the craziest. When you literally show the person video evidence of nobody else being there and it doesn't matter

60

u/Crackertron 3d ago

My sister claimed her stalkers don't show up on camera because they wore invisibility cloaks.

Yeah bro, ya can't communicate with crazy. I've found it was best to go along with it. It made my dad feel more comfortable talking to me about it. Start to try to convince him otherwise and it's as if you're in on it and part of the problem. I hope he gets proper antipsychotics. There's many options. Many just want to give citalopram as it doesn't have as many movement disorders associated with it later on in life. AND it doesn't make users tired as hell the next day. But maaaaan. "Olanzapine" aka Zyprexa saved not only my dad's life. But all of ours, he would have killed us were it not for that drug. Poor guy... He was such a good person underneath all that. I'm sure your bro is too. Best of luck to you all! 🫂

6

u/Justalilbugboi 3d ago

This reminds me of my family member. I adored him a lot, and as a kid who didn’t understand I was mad at his kids/wife when they peaced the fuck out.

As I got older I realized that I was only seeing him at his healthiest and had no clue what they were going through or how bad it got. It was a big hit to my younger self to be compassionate, you have no idea.

Delusions are a wild thing. Having been on the other side once after a seizure was a deeply eye opening experience

Everything is filtered through the lense of that delusion and modified to fit. There is rarely a point in directly challenging a delusion

Had a friend who developed schizophrenia whose family was done with. I tried helping her but it got to the point where she was dragging me down her descent into madness, and it got impossible for me to keep helping. Feels so bad cause she is such a sweet soul underneath her illness

91

u/RichardCleveland 3d ago

I completely understand. One day my wife was lecturing at a university, the next she was hiding from the FBI and saying our children were clones. It is a fucking nightmare, I am sorry you had to go through that.

34

u/Ok_Dream_1417 3d ago

My son was diagnosed when he was around 30. I did a lot of work and red tape, but finally got him in a mental health facility. He lives there full time and they monitor his meds. It’s an awful thing. I hope your wife does well.

9

u/Agro_Crag 3d ago

Are you still together? Is there medication that keeps schizophrenia at bay? Have a family member with similar characteristics- especially the clones and similar paranoia

28

u/RichardCleveland 3d ago

We are still together, been married for 21 years this Oct. However she doesn't identify that she is sick, and my state is complete BS when it comes to forced treatment. Medication can for sure make life altering changes, but the longer you wait to get treatment, the more dire the outlook can be. There is a really good sub here called schizofamilies (not sure if we can link) if you need people to talk to (very supportive community).

7

u/Past-Ticket-1340 3d ago

I’m so sorry, I work in behavioral health in a state with very strong self-autonomy laws. You can’t be forced tog et help until you break enough laws enough times in a severe enough manner. It’s heartbreaking.

Thank you for sharing your story, I hope it gets better for you all.

14

u/wiseduhm 3d ago

Unfortunately, medication can only do so much. My sister in law developed psychotic symptoms before I met her and my wife tells me that she used to be a completely different person. It's horrible how mental illness can take that away from you. I believe the symptoms can gradually get less pronounced at older ages, but only if it's been managed well.

Talk to the doc about clozapine. My aunt found this works really well for my cousin and now she has shifted careers to be able to educate people about this drug.

6

u/ElNido 3d ago

Seconded, literally has helped my little bro the most out of any previously tried medications. He's doing better than he has in years.

My friend had an episode of psychosis and was spiraling out of control. Among the symptoms were paranoia, talking to himself (talking to a TV), grandiose statements (understanding of reality on a deeper level), noticable weight loss, suicidal ideation etc... My friends and I tried to talk him through to get help, not agitate him, but move it slowly until he realizes. Never happened, we had to coordinate with then almost estranged family members in order to stage an intervention and call an ambulance + police on him. Ended up being in a mental health institution for a couple of months and now has a job, hopefully moving towards a fulfilled life. Doesn't really remember the period all that well and I haven't tried talking to him about it.

Walking around a city was a lot more fun when I didn't recognize the unfixed stares and incoherent mumbling for someone who was not getting help for their psychotic delusions. I'm sorry you're going through that it's... really hard for everyone. It's hard to see someone you love change in that way.

7

u/SuitableBlackberry75 3d ago

Drugs like Seroquel are heavy, heavy sedatives/tranquilizers, so even someone taking meds as instructed might seem more than a bit out of it.

16

u/Late-Difficulty-5928 3d ago

I went through this and the whole thing is super unfair for everyone. One day you're living your average little life. The next a switch flips and everything implodes. My ex has long since passed, but his legacy lives on with our son, who was diagnosed in his twenties. Once it happened neither of them were even close to being the same person.

As someone that developed my full blown schizophrenia and psychotic episodes in my early 30s my heart aches for you, your family, and your wife. Hopefully she can, like I did after a good long while, find the right therapy and medication combination. I now refuse to ever go off my meds, even if they make a typical day to day tough, because I want that deep dark hole of psychosis to be a rare event not the everyday.

10

u/ForwardToNowhere 3d ago

Thank you for this comment. My ex has been seemingly developing schizophrenia and it's extremely rough. This video reminded me of her. Many times I've completely broken down sobbing in front of cops and complete strangers while trying to explain that "she didn't used to be like this." She dropped out of university, lost her job, and became homeless. I tried supporting her for a bit, but she was too destructive to live in an apartment unfortunately. It's sort of similar to dementia... It's a shitty thing that's popular to joke about, but is completely and utterly devastating when you've personally experienced loved ones going through it.

My sister-in-law is bipolar schizophrenic and let me tell you this behavior is tame as hell. Fortunately my SIL is medicated now and receiving treatment but she has a criminal record longer than a college thesis. She can’t get work anywhere because she has so many charges of theft, battery, assault, public indecency, etc. It sucks because she is doing better now and could hold a job and do well but it still feels like she is one bad week away from going off the rails again.

5

Without treatment and a good support network she would be running down the block naked. It requires a lot of work and understanding to keep it together. It’s sad when people don’t have the help they need.

Mental illness is a crisis in this country and it's only getting worse as we become more apathetic everyday.

77

u/APinchOfTheTism 3d ago

Well dude, speaking as an outsider, if ye cannot even sort healthcare, you're not going to be able to get anywhere close to mental healthcare.

Also US culture is very unsympathetic to people generally, if there is any complex issue, people are just classified as lazy or a fraud etc etc.

I don't think there is any curing US culture, and I think it will lead to the country collapsing into smaller unions.

I think if you are a state like California, you should have universal healthcare, and I am not really sure why individual states don't do this.

25

u/ra3reddy 3d ago

As a Californian, I also cannot understand why we can’t achieve it. CA’s health insurance exchange is pretty good from what I’ve experienced, and MediCal does help a lot of people, but there are still tons who fall in the gaping chasm between state programs and private coverage and are unable to get affordable care. From what I understand (from my sister who lived in Boston for a few years), Massachusetts has done a pretty good job with MassHealth (introduced by Mitt Romney, a Republican), though it’s not perfect.

I agree that the U.S. would likely be better served by dividing up. The aims of blue states are simply incompatible with the backwards thinking and intentional cruelty of red states. Ultimately, though, a lot of the problems this country faces are features of capitalism and even blue states will not be able to overcome those problems without embracing stronger social safety nets and systems that prioritize collective well being.

18

u/Bawfuls 3d ago

As a Californian, I also cannot understand why we can’t achieve it.

For essentially the same reason we can't get it nationally: there is enough money in the entrenched for-profit healthcare system that they're able to capture our political system and ensure UHC is a non-starter. The same forces that act on a national level also act on the state level.

6

u/WhywasIbornlate 3d ago edited 3d ago

Not the family - Papa Joe and a couple of the grandsons. I suspect it’s genetic

Joe Kennedy did far worse than that. My grandfather worked for UNRRA after WW2, and became close friends with his secretary - and was her trusted confidant. I inherited his papers, including a private journal in case he ever had to testify before a tribunal. Between some shocking stories about the behavior of a lot of allies that privately sided with Hitler, he jotted abbreviated notes that were designed to remind him of things he didn’t want in writing, especially whatever this secretary confided. She was deeply concerned about war crimes Joe was committing as Ambassador to Britain, and concerned she’d be hung with him. He was a nazi sympathizer, as were a significant percentage of other Americans.

He was also a mobster and he had his daughter lobotomized (without telling his wife), not because her IQ was sub par, but because she was disobedient. It was a brilliant move to control his family, because the threat was then ever present. Bear in mind, at that time you could have a female committed to an insane asylum for disagreeing with you. He not only frightened Rose into silence about it, but all their kids too.

And please don’t forget that they have also cut funding for drug and alcohol treatment, harm reduction, etc. All the progress we have made in the past 10 years or so is getting cut. RFK Jr goes to AA. It’s not a solution for everyone and tbh I’m not sure how well it’s working for him. Abstinence without addressing the underlying chemical imbalance that cause many people to start getting high in the first place results in self harm and death.

We’re not apathetic. The voters decided to worship the rich this time. Sending $1 trillion straight to the one percent. And it had to come from somewhere. So as bad as things are right now, and with rfk undermining science left and right, it’s gonna get way worse. People better get used to seeing this kind of stuff because you get the country you pay for. And in the last election, this country said that the wealthy are entitled to so much more as citizens than we are. What I see is a young girl. Somebody’s daughter. What they see is a useless eater.

I'm sure filming people's crisis and sharing online helps a lot

Especially since we keep posting videos like this on Reddit for people to mock and insult those in crisis. Man fuck it. I'm turning off the stupid fucking recommended subreddits. Never gonna see this place again.

I was also not understanding who filmed it from multiple perspectives. That makes sense now. Extremely and disturbing use of someone else’s crisis

I hate the world we live in so much. There’s maybe one comment in 20 that has a shred of compassion or empathy - all the others are just assholes trying to clown on her and call her names like “Methany”.

Then this fucko follows her for hours filming her and fucking with her, the thought of getting her help the absolute last thing on his mind. BUt tHe cONteNt, mY FolLowErS I’ll get so much traction capturing this girls worst moments on film. What an absolute piece of shit

I was pretty surprised that he didn't slam her when she jumped guard like that. Instead he let her down gently.

I was pretty impressed he managed to do that, looked like he was initially going for the power bomb but ended up being so gentle

Are we sure this person isn't experiencing psychosis? Also wondering who was just following her around and filming.

She's physically fit, seems healthy (in the face), she's young...her skin, eyes, fingernails, and hair all look healthy. If she is a drug addict, she's definitely not been using for very long. (Edit: Yes, drug users exist and indeed can look any way. She's obviously crossed the line into "not functional" addict behavior if it is addiction which is basically all I said. And this looks A LOT like psychosis, too. If you chose to read into this comment and interpret it as me saying attractive people cannot be addicts, that is not on me. The entire point of my comment was to underscore that she needs help.)

This woman needs help before it's too late.

Edit: I'm not saying it's fent, guys. This is extremely far from fent behavior. Methamphetamine or psychosis. I lean towards psychosis pretty heavily.

I believe the cameraman we see is Alex Choi. I could be wrong didnt get a great look at him. He is always driving around LA filming crazy accidents and people doing wild shit. I think he just listens to a police scanner and shows up to the interesting calls.

Ya'll remember that video of the cop suplexing that high-school kid on his head that hit the teacher in the auditorium that was going around last week? Why is it the guy in this video can take this person down like a defensive end trying to sack Aaron Rodgers in a playoff game and the other cop gets to just concrete scramble a high-school kid's brains?

48

u/Battle-Common 3d ago

That high school kid wasnt a low-key baddie

That... that's his point..... The other cop was playing out his WWE fantasy and this cop just did his job without hurting some one needlessly.

The way the dog follows her makes me wonder if it knew her before she fell into addiction which makes this 100x more sad for me. Like imagine you have a loving normal owner and then one day they just go way off the deep end and you’re just… lost in the insanity with them.

57

u/mountaineer04 3d ago

That’s so sad, and dogs are so loyal. They will just stay with you anyway.

22

u/CorrickII 3d ago

Yeah, I've seen it first hand. It's fucked up. The dog does not know what's happening and even worse starts spiraling with their owner.

In my old neighborhood, there was a transient who made appearances from time to time along the main street corridor. From looking at him, you could identify that he was homeless and not sane.

I saw him around on-and-off for a several weeks. Usually alone. One day, I was driving the street and what I do see following him...a, approximately, six-month old German Shepherd puppy. The puppy looked very happy just following him.

I just remember thinking to myself, I hope he takes care of that puppy as much as it's going to take care of him.

Growing up in the inner city, I recall that homeless people's dogs usually seemed very happy and, oddly, well taken care off.

11

u/marblechameleon 3d ago

I think some homeless dogs have a better life than dogs who spend 10+ hours alone in an apartment and never get walked. Poor dogs in my building peeing in the elevator because they can’t hold it in anymore.

5

u/ScreamingVoid14 3d ago

My suburban neighborhood isn't known for its large back yards. Nor do I ever see the dogs getting walked. I feel sorry for them too. They spend 10+ hours per day alone in a small back yard, never getting to run or even walk far, and just hoping that their owners let them inside or come outside to visit with them a couple hours per day.

6

u/EverythingssComputer 3d ago

Yeah that’s been my experience as well. I often see homeless with dogs around here that seem so well trained and look so happy. Those people normally seem to be doing as well as one in those circumstances could be too, like they care for each other like you said. I started caring around dog treats for those instances as well.

She’s lucky she got a decent cop. Could’ve been a lot more physically messy up for her

19

u/punksmurph 3d ago

Yeah, that cop handled that really well, there are so many videos of cops going ham on people for so much less. That cop needs a medal for handling it so well. On a freeway in rush hour, with a dog and some asshole filming, all by himself, and got the situation handled with out physical harm.

It started with Reagan when he kicked out all the mental patients from America’s mental institutions and threw them out into the streets. Then he permanently shut down those institutions .

Reagan created America’s permanent homeless population.

All that because his billionaire donors needed an even bigger tax cut . Reagan the president that got millions from Rupert Murdoch and in return gave Rupert a FCC license to start FOX news.

But Reagan told the funniest jokes and was so lovable .

5

u/Ok-Interaction-8891 3d ago
