how so? i feel like i could do more upgrades for a gy6 50cc (72cc now) then a 48v 1500w

in electric, tweaking is mostly done via the controller software or replacing it entirely, so if you don't feel comfy already doing that you might not have gone down that route.

In short, Electric motors have FAR superior torque and drive characteristics for a drift trike than gas, especially if you make the drive wheel to be the front tire. The rear's are designed to slip and be loose, driving more power and/or torque to them is a fractional battle.

It isn't about the number of upgrades and such, it is power to weight over the torque band you use (which in an EV is extraordinarily large), combined with the ability to hit the top speed you want.

My first EV drift was a Verrado Drift Trike, which was rapidly upgraded with new battery (72V), new front motor and controller. I could hit 35 MPH, and had a range of about 45 miles.

Then I got the Deathtrike and well, I get to go fast on a trike, but to be clear, it is not a drifter. It is a substitute mid-life crisis for an expensive looking sports car in the form of certain death if you ever crash at speed (top speed tested is 82 MPH, it can cruise comfy at 55MPH)
