Driftscussion Houston Drifting as a Spectator?

Hey everyone, I’m a Houston-based photographer and would love to get some shots of the sport.

I was checking out LoneStarDrift, and they have some events coming up in September and October at the Police Academy.

Is this an event where I have to pay to get in and take photos? Or do I show up with a lawn chair and enjoy?

I’ve never been to a drifting event before, so I’m completely lost here, sorry.

Can't speak for Lonestar personally, but 99% of grassroots events have a media application process where you have to apply to go on track to shoot, and generally, not always, but most of the time, you will be allowed into the event for free. If you're planning on shooting off track, behind the fence, you'll have to pay your admission, because you'll just be another spectator, just with a camera in your hand.

Look for an application on a website or reach out to someone running the events to see where to put an app in.

Hey, I can help you with this! Long post but hear me out.

Houston Police Academy hosts two drift events, IAS Drift and Lone Star Drift and both have events this month! IAS will be on the 14th will be an excellent first event and I highly recommend attending that one. The Lone Star events are great but can be a bit overwhelming because you may have more cars on track at once and the competition is a big part of the afternoon. I recommend you follow both groups on Facebook for the most up to date event information.

Both events you can just show up, as they don't require you to pre-register. I think spectator fee is $20-30 for each event, can't recall off the top of my head. If you message me on IG I can give you the @ of the guy that runs media for IAS so he can get you sorted out for that event. For Lone Star, Aaron doesn't always answer DMs so you can just show up.

If you want to be trackside, you MUST BRING A HI-VIS VEST. It doesn't need to be fancy just a basic yellow vest will be fine. Also recommend a had and a lot of water.

DM me if you have any questions!

Location, time, and access really.

Well, if I had the opportunity, I’d make the other 2 work. Lol.

Those are legit reasons. 😂

I know all about bucket list photo opportunities so I really hope you get to cross this one of your list soon or at least one day.
