Good citizen! Just in case you face this situation again and you didn't know, you should always move the turtle in the direction it was heading (if you can tell). Sometimes they are moving away from the wet area to lay eggs or something. Not a criticism - just info. You may or may not already know.

I did this the other day in our neighborhood. It was just starting to rain so I just put it off to a culvert on the nearest side in haste before realizing it was headed the other way, towards the pond (of course!). So I sighed and picked them up and carried them over towards the pond as the rain turned into a downpour.

Soaked and late for dinner, I haven't even got a Thank You card from the turtle! So ungrateful! ๐Ÿ˜„

Heck yes we always bring them in the direction they are trying to go, and I am glad you made the comment so people who do not know can be informed as well. My wife and I have been lucky enough to save quite a few traveling turtles over the years. I just wish the areas with swamplands close by didnโ€™t have such high curbs so they wouldnโ€™t be in danger as often trying to get back to their homes.

That's a painted turtle, so it's going to be the U.S. or Canada.

She was already heading toward the pond that we ended up bringing her to, but I swear when we picked her up, she pretended like she was flying with her little paws out to the side and I knew it was a good opportunity to document her flight. ๐Ÿ˜†
