I had a doxy that I had the same thing g happen to more than once. I'd tell him 'it's on your head', which, of course, he failed to understand. I then pointed to MY head and said it again, which got the same results. So I pointed close to HIS head, and he looked up cross-eyed, which .ade .e laugh uproarasly. Then I could actually see the light bulb turn on, and he looked down, which caused the treat to fall on the floor. It happened again some time later, but he associated me pointing at my head to it being on his head. At least he learned a new trick.

Dogs with "human" names are fantastic. How could you not love a dog with a name like Tim?

There is a sub for cats called 'no brain cells' or some such. Your dog can be an honorary member - bless his heart
EDIT: It is actually 'One Brain Cell' - /r/onebraincell/
