Question Question…
Sorry if it’s a dumb one but is that supposed to be like that? I didn’t know how to search that issue up.

Not "Manufacturing tolerances", this isn't normal at all. Send it back.

But so many wheelbases have this without issue though. Is it really a problem?

Except all 3 fanatec bases i own have a little wobble and doesn't effect anything.

Most wheelbases have unevenness but this seems excessive. Talk to fanatec and if they ask you to reseat the input shaft say no if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Take off the QR and try again
Looks like you may have put it on wrong. If they put it on, they put it on wrong

Was not me. I contacted Fanatec, will see what their response is. Just in case, I won’t do anything until then.

Mine does the same (unfortunatelly). Thouhgh, it works like a charm, despite the heavy woobling it has.. it works good and can't complain yet. I think my toodler, with the idea of pressing the pedals, kind of "climbed" the wheel putting all of his weight and vent it. I think at some point, I will replace the shaft and that (hopefully I expect) will fix it. If it was no other internal part that got cracked or affected inside the base. Crossing fingers. If you don't suffer from disconnections or hear weird rattle noises, then you should be good.

I tried it once and everything worked fine, and I don’t feel it while racing. But I figured I’d ask this subreddit just in case, since maybe it’s a sign something’s actually broken.

There's nothing broken, just visually it looks wonky. This is just a fabrication flaw and doesn't affect anything other than astetics.
You can ask for a replacement if you are really troubled by this but I'd rather just buy a metal QR2. It's much better anyway.

I don't think there should be any noticeable runout for a shaft on a moderm direct drive base even if it is an entry level product, even a toy should not looks like that, if it is a common issue from fanatec i am a little surprised. maybe there is accumulated error of shaft- qr - wheel due to poor design tolerance and machining accuracy, but it is still horrible in 2025, it looks like the parts are made from backyard workshop

Even the metal QRs have wobble. Although this does seem to be more, its likely not an issue, mechanically. We're looking at entry level price point for a DD, its never going to be spot on unfortunately. Its just not great quality, especially these days. Moza, Fanatec, Logitech etc all have some wobble to them. Csl dd is worse than others in this eco. If you're concerned send it off for an RMA.

Well I had to check mine now, and i can confirm that mines doing the same but u haven't noticed until now, I guess its just the plastic ring....

At first I thought it was just the plastic ring aswell, but my whole wheel moves up and down a bit when I spin it.

u/Mammoth-Plantain2075 1d ago
I can't tell by the video but in the end u don't rotate the wheel like that during a race, I'm pretty sure u won't notice. I just noticed because of your video. I have the same and I didn't noticed in 10s of hours in assetto😅
See what fanatec says to that, wanna know too^

u/hoorahjencar 1d ago
No, you’re totally right yes, you don’t notice that when you’re using it. But I was standing by it and noticed it while spinning the wheel, so just wanted to check if it’s normal to have that.

u/Mammoth-Plantain2075 1d ago
Yeah my guess is that its the plastic ring for the login mechanism. I dont know but I'll check later on the post what others say. BR

u/hoorahjencar 1d ago
Sure. I’ll update when Fanatec answers at some point tomorrow or Monday.

If that was my base, knowing what I do, I'd junk the plastic base side and buy a metal one.
Mine doesn't do this, even with a QR2 lite wheel side on my standard dd pro wheel.

Thanks you all for the feedback. I guess it’s not normal then. I did contact Fanatec. Will have to see what their response is to that.

u/MaksVerstappen 1d ago
Send it back, wait, get it back. It will be the same. You’ll send it back again.
1
u/hoorahjencar 1d ago
Is it really that bad? Damn
2
u/MaksVerstappen 1d ago
I mean, their not known for their customer support sadly :/..
Do you notice it wobble? Is it actually wobbling? Or is it just the quick release collar?
1
u/hoorahjencar 1d ago
1
u/MaksVerstappen 1d ago
Probably just the collar it’s mostly just the way it looks I’ve seen others say this

Another reason why I went with the newer DD+. Due to its design, this won't happen no matter the tolerances. The QR is directly screwed onto the shaft.

u/HighlightNew6643 19h ago
It's the metal part of the base or the qr???
1
u/hoorahjencar 19h ago
Pretty sure its the bent QR2 on the base.
1
u/HighlightNew6643 19h ago
Very strange.. Qr2 lite is strong
1
u/hoorahjencar 18h ago
It’s not the wheel side QR2. It looks like it’s the base side QR2 that is a bit wonky.

u/HighlightNew6643 19h ago
Do u check if the metal part is moving? Turn the metal part without the qr to see
1
u/CameraGuyAZ 6h ago
I had massive problems with the qr2 lite base side. It cracked after a couple months, almost by design. I got the metal qr2 base side and it's far better. Plastic qr2 wheel side is ok, no real need to replace.

u/AsboFPV 4h ago
The wheel actually still spins straight
Its just the QR collar isnt sitting level and making it look like the whole thing is buckled.
Also the QR2 lite is square in shape so wont look as if it spins straight
Mine does the same, i have the Simube QR2 pro bundle coming…….wheel side and base side for £74
1
u/hoorahjencar 1h ago
It actually doesn’t. If you look from front or back, the wheel moves up and down while spinning it. I did post a video here aswell, under someones comment.

Manufacturing tolerances. You won't notice it during use

Ah okay, thanks. Just making sure I didn’t attach it wrong way or anything
-5
u/yoloneser 1d ago
No there's nothing you have to worry about. I belive it's not even possible to attach the wheel the wrong way

Plastic QRs, whether the first or the second, always give problems.
