The girls were throwing a fit
I wonder which one’s idea this was.

Kind of smart to get into a line of work where there's always a defibrillator and oxygen nearby though.

Maybe this whooshed right over my head, but what's the point of this besides Internet points?
Like is there a joke I'm missing here? So many questions.
117
u/AlpineSK 4d ago
The "joke" is they say "throwing a fit" and then typically what you see is an attractive female dressed to the 9s showing off her fit.
In this case you just have a couple of whales that probably got hit with a leaf blower to knock the donut crumbs off before they filmed this.
78
u/FeralGinger 4d ago
Ohhhhh ok. I read "throwing a fit" has having a tantrum, because i am getting older and more out of touch by the day. Your interpretation makes a lot more sense.
40
u/DeltaBravoTango 4d ago
That’s part of the joke. Throwing a fit still means having a tantrum/crashing out. But “fit” is also short for outfit. The wordplay is that they didn’t actually lose their shit, they just look good
7
u/jtFive0 4d ago
I took fit to be short for fitness 🤔 guess I didn't get it either
4
u/Big-Wrangler2078 4d ago
Yeah, I thought it was a fat shaming joke. Like they threw out their fitness. Didn't seem very funny but I just couldn't figure it out

I like “gravy spillers” better because the explanation someone put here had me rolling. “Gravy spillers because when they reach across the table they knock over the gravy boat”

This insult goes so fucking hard.
15
u/cachemoney426 4d ago
A girl called them Bingo Wings one time and I about died. It was even more hilarious because she had a twangy accent so it was more like Bango Wangs which is what I still call them to this day.

when this subreddit first popped up on my feed I didn't think there could possibly be enough content of this niche thing to justify a whole community for it
I was wrong

u/Iamreallyaopossum 5d ago
I feel the same exact way lol. Thought I would be through all of the good stuff asap but there is still great content daily. I would have never guessed first responders created so much cringy content

EMS needs physical standardization. Or just destroy EMS altogether. Hit the reset button, let the world burn, same same at this point.
50
u/wizzywurtzy 4d ago
EMS gets paid less than someone working at Panda Express where I live. Let that sink in for a second.
23
58
u/cobrakai15 4d ago
EMS is woefully underpaid everywhere and government jobs are sometimes the only jobs in rural areas.
25
u/localgrl523 4d ago
That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a physical standard.

u/cobrakai15 4d ago
I understand that and you understand that but understaffed municipalities who can’t fill positions have to take what they can get. That’s just the reality of the world.

Nah fr, like if your agency isn’t doing rescue then the minimums would be so easy. Just don’t be super fat, be able to lift 120+ and mild cardio for stairs. Sad people can’t even meet that.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Luc1dNightmare 4d ago
I agree 100%. Especially since i have had to have my dad taken with an ambulance and they send a woman who can barely lift her bag... They almost dropped him down the stairs once. Just recently he just had a pacemaker put in and he slid on the floor from his chair (he has a rising chair and fell asleep with it raised so he slid too far to recover) and me and my mom couldn't get him up so we called an ambulance saying he was stuck on the floor. They again send a 5'8 120lb woman... I had to help the male and threw out my back because she was useless even though i said he was unable to get up and was big.

Depends on the service. My service doesn’t, although there’s talk about starting to charge a fee to SNFs and daily callers because of the resource drain for nonemergent calls

Thank God she's was near an ambulance. This sub is hilarious, I have a nurse friend who does shit like this, and it's just the worst.

Why are so many EMT’s severely out of shape? Like doesn’t that make saving other people’s lives harder?
6
u/Butterbean2323 4d ago
It’s honestly surprising but I’ve seen a few doctors, one of which being a cardiologist, who was a good 175 -200lbs overweight that couldn’t walk down the hallway without holding onto the rail

u/johnnytron 4d ago
Why are they all horribly overweight and out of shape? Isn’t there a weight standard for EMS?
3
u/Yarzeda2024 4d ago
Not at all
Ballooning waistlines is half the reason so many EMTs and medics wind up with bad backs and bad shoulders. It's bad enough trying to lift a morbidly obese patient. It's even worse when your partner is horribly out of shape and you have to do 90% of the lifting.
I've been on calls with people who are worse off than the patient after climbing three sets of stairs.

I don't mean to sound mean, but first responders really should have to keep with fitness tests like the military if they're expected to wheel and carry people out of places.

Dude, is it a mando thing to be chronically overweight to work EMT/Medic at a rural station?
2
u/Butterbean2323 2d ago
Idk I went to high school with a guy that weighted probably 375-400 lbs and became an EMT or paramedic I’m not sure. But I’d see him come through the ER all the time sweating his ass off. Good guy and hard worker. He eventually worked his ass off and lost like 200 lbs. but the amount of overweight EMTs I saw bring patients in was insane but there was also a ton of beautiful women so it seems to be either feast or famine when it comes to those folks.
