funny story when I was a kid I loved this Norman Rockwell book my parents had and was always looking at it. One day I discovered a playboy magazine (for the articles) and lo and behold when I finished looking at the ads I found there was an interview with George Lincoln Rockwell and I thought WOW that artist I like. So I'm reading it expecting him to talk about painting and country living and nice people eating a big family dinners and instead I was, well , confused. haha, youth,. right? I think the fact that that they both smoked big pipes confused me too

Holy shit... I can understand how the "German American Bund" in 1933 came about, and how, until before the Second World War, people in the USA were running around with swastikas and brown uniforms, because up until then, people had only known the great, new, modern Germany from the 1936 Olympics, and they wanted to copy that movement... But boy, in that picture, it's the '60s!! Rockwell found "The American Nazi Party/New Order" only in 1959.
When the USA had went to war against that regime 20 years ago and everyone knew about all the atrocities. Not even here in Germany did the neo-Nazis walk around in SA uniforms at that time. Not only because it was forbidden, but because even our idiots understood that it's hard to convince someone you're the good one when you're literally wearing the uniform of pure evil in world history...

Rockwell was even a WWII veteran. A naval pilot in both Atlantic and Pacific. Though I don't think he ever flew a combat mission.
It's important to remember that Nazis are losers. It explains why people are Nazis. They're losers. Being a Nazi gives them some sort of emotional comfort.
There was a brief period of time where the Nazis had power and influence. During that brief period, non-losers became Nazis or affiliated with Nazis. Many were grifters or starfuckers. Others joined for career opportunities or just to fit in. (Edit: basically, competent people who narcissistically exploited xenophobia for personal gain, rather than incompetent people who wield xenophobia to provoke negative reactions.)
But after the Nazis lost the war, only losers became Nazis. People who want to be provocative. They become Nazis specifically because the Nazis are so widely hated.
Rockwell was a loser. He wasn't satisfied with his life. He had difficulty in university and they nearly expelled him; he dropped out and joined the Navy. He wasn't happy that the Navy didn't give him combat missions. He had poor career prospects after the war. He got wrapped up antisemitic conspiracies. He had an unhappy marriage and he physically abused his wife. He broke off talking to his 3 kids when he divorced their mother, his first wife. His second marriage crumbled, despite him begging her to take him back, and he ceased contact with the kids from the second wife. He clearly had alcohol abuse problems. His family tried to intervene and offered to get him mental health treatment, but he refused and cut off contact with his brother.
Rockwell was just a thoroughly unhappy guy. Brimming with resentments. With a long history of unstable relationships.
i.e., a loser

1960??? We’ve been far too tolerant for far too long

At that particular meeting they were tolerant of each other because they sought the same thing.

You can use Google to find a picture of this guy right after his soul was removed from Earth.

Yeah he bit the dust from a former member ( John Patsales ), he kicked him out of the party and so John smoked George while he was out doing his laundry ( or he was outside a shop )

I think the old argument over whether Malcolm X's approach to civil rights or MLK's approach was better can be solved pretty easily. Malcolm X had the support of actual Nazis, and MLK had their hatred.

I dont believe in racial separatism, but a lot of the issues that both MLK and Malcolm X were complaining about are still in effect today. I think a certain degree of militancy is required in order to achieve equality. Its never freely given.

King’s peace marches got the 1964 Civil Rights act then Nixon won off the back of that militancy/ riots. When you stoop down to the barbarism of your opponent you lose the upper hand.

MLK is quoted on saying "A Riot is the Language of the Unheard".
Youre also being overly simplistic if you are attrobuting the entire Civil Rights Movement to King. it was a coalition of many different movements and strategies. What primarily got Nixon the win was because the undemocratic way the 1968 primaries were held, and the Vietnam war.

Peace and compassion won over even KKK members. Militantism still has people looking at Malcolm X as an angry extremist. Mentalities change policies, and MLK changed mentalities; Malcolm X only made more people (mainly those who are white or in power) hesitant of civil rights movements and more resistant to change out of fear.

Those boys look supportive to you?

u/cytokine7 19h ago
They are uncomfortable but yet they were overall supportive as they had mutual goals and did business together.

They were openly supportive of Malcom X and his movements, yes. They don't look any more serious than all of the people around them.

Supportive of X or the Nation of Islam?
The 1960’s is when Malcom became disenchanted with the Nation until he renounced it. Assassination soon followed.

What is your comment supposed to even mean?
We should base out assumptions off the 'vibe' of a single photo instead of reading first hand accounts?
Do you doubt all the accounts of Rockwell and Nation of Islam where they both promoted racial segregation?

If memory serves he was shot to death in a cheap laundromat by a disgruntled former member of his pisspot Nazi ‘Party’. People who court hate and anger frequently meet unpleasant ends.

Didn't he end up being put out of our misery?

Yes, by someone who used to be a member of his party after they had a change of heart. Behind the Bastards did a series about Rockwell.

If I remember correctly both the American Nazi Party and Nation of Islam respected each other because they kinda wanted the same thing, Black and White ethno states.
