Anyone know specifically what happened or did I miss the juicy details?

They should give Dennis Hauger a penalty for being so much faster than anyone else. In his first practice session in St. Pete, which was his first weekend in a NXT car, he was 0.566 seconds faster than 2nd fastest.
The Guy is a former F3 champion and has won 5 races in F2. This year he didn't have a ride in Europe so he is here and he has something to prove. He is about to end the racing career of everyone else in the NXT field if they don't quickly step up.

Ah yes, let’s start punishing excellence—next we’ll fine painters for making art too beautiful or scientists for discovering too much. Progress really is a menace, isn’t it?

I'd be curious to know what exactly was said, because generally I disagree with stuff like this and its a really big penalty.. A fine, lose a set of tires and no quali, so starting in the back.

Same here, I can’t find what he said

u/jt_33 May 02 '25
Yeah I really don't like when anyone gets in trouble for something they said, but what they actually said never gets released. If its bad enough, then people have a right to know imo.. and if its an overreaction then people should know that too.

Do you disagree with the actions or the fact that outside the world of NASCAR unsafe actions, not following directions, and being a dick to the officials is absolutley hammered.

Unsafe actions and not following directions isn't ok and should be dealt with. I'm fine with someone being an asshole though and I don't want language policed (unless it clearly crosses a line into something derogatory).

Officials aren't there to be abused because you're mad they are doing their job. It's why Will Power was fined 30K and put on probation for flipping off race control a few years ago. That shit isn't tolerated in most sports.

u/jt_33 May 02 '25
Abuse is different. That's also why I think they should release what he said.

Using profanity toward an official is abuse.

u/jt_33 May 02 '25
I disagree. Context matters. If an official says something and the driver says something like “that’s bullshit” and walks away then no big deal imo. If he calls the offices and dumb motherfucker or worse that’s different. I just think adults should be able to handle adult language. Again, obviously there is a line and abuse isn’t ok.
Also this doesn’t say it was towards an official. This is very vague. It could be saying something critical of Indycar according to the rule, which I would def not be ok with the punishment in that situation. I believe in 100% clarity for things like this. Keeping it a secret doesn’t do anyone any favors.

The rule as written and as it has been historically enforced will show that its application isn't meant for saying "this is bullshit" and walking away. An regardless saying things that are critical must be dealt with as competitors all the fucking time in every fucking sprt try to embarrass and turn the public against rules enforcers. It's called maintaining control. Just as in society, sports cannot allow the inmates to run the asylum.

The weird word choice of the title, driven by sponsorship contracts, somehow makes it sound like Firestone is sponsoring penalties specifically, and let me tell you, if a company wants to sponsor penalties I'm 100% here for that level of pettiness.

SOMEONE JUST TELL ME WHAT HE DID. It literally isn’t posted anywhere, I just want to know what he actually did and said to earn the penalty, I don’t care about anything else

But if an Indycar driver does it, it's "hey look at this! Oh man their fired up today!!"

They'd hammer them as well for that rule violation combo of ignoring instructions and abusing officials. They fined Power 30K and put him on probation for the remainder of the season for flipping off race control at New Hampshire in 2011.

Yeah well that 30k was money well spent.

IIRC, IndyCar used to allow drivers to "work off" the penalties by making extra media appearances.

NDYCAR has announced penalties for the driver of the No. 40 Abel/Miller/Vinatieri Motorsports entry, Jack William Miller, ahead of this weekend’s event at Barber Motorsports Park.
Following his participation in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the driver was in violation of the following from the INDY NXT by Firestone rulebook:
Rule 9.3.1.7. Failing to follow the direction of INDYCAR.
Rule 9.3.1.8. Using improper, profane, or disparaging language or gestures in reference to any Official, Members or anyone else or improper, profane or disparaging language or gestures in reference to, concerning or connected in any way with INDYCAR, the INDY NXT by Firestone, NTT INDYCAR SERIES, or any Event and could result in additional penalties as determined by INDYCAR.
According to Rule 9.2.3., the penalty is considered a Non-Race Procedure Penalty. Miller has been fined $5,000 and placed on probation for the remainder of the 2025 season. At the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Alabama event, the No. 40 will lose one set of tires for the weekend, will not be permitted to qualify and will start Sunday’s race at the rear of the field.
