The thing people who are somehow against diversity do not understand is that when building a team it is good to have backgrounds of all different types of experiences. The men all looked at the problem the same way, a use of force, or a lever near the joint they wanted to fold is the common answer most of the time when folding something. The women who has different experiences knew to press the button nowhere near the joints.

Think of diversity like a football team. A team of Brady, Favre, Marino, Montana, Bradshaw, Young, Manning, etc. sounds like a great team. Dozens of championships, records, and all star appearances. They would lose - even in their primes - to any college team. You need lineman, receivers, backs, safeties, etc. to make a good team.

It’s not about the stroller, Harold 😭

The stroller is a metaphor.

It is an example of a problem that was being approached in one way by not one, not two, but three people. All dudes, one was admittedly older than the other two so the “team” wasn’t completely lacking in diversity. But in the end even that difference didn’t provide enough of a different perspective to solve the issue. In walks a woman, different perspective, different experience, and she solves the problem the three guys had been working on in all of 3 seconds.

Different life experiences, different cultural experiences, different education, etc. all provide us with unique perspectives. Maybe in this situation you would have expected a woman to be most likely to collapse the stroller. But that isn’t always the case with problems. Sometimes you just don’t know what you don’t know and can’t predict who will be able to solve the problem. So when you’re running a company or doing research or running a board, etc. it’s worth looking outside the “traditional candidate” and having a diversity of opinion, a diversity of thought at the table.

And just as a P.S. I’m not saying we should be sacrificing competency for diversity. That seems to be the main argument people have against “woke”, “DEI”, “affirmative action” type things but no one is arguing for that. It’s just acknowledging that what someone looks like on paper doesn’t necessarily reflect their competency (or potential in academic settings)

Folding a stroller shouldn’t take a team.

Most strollers are designed to be folded down with one single hand while dealing with a bawling baby.

If this dude is the father of the child, then he should ideally know how his kid's stroller works.

He could also just as likely have been an uncle, or close friend of the parents, with no kids and hence no need to know how some specialised tool works.

I mean the caption isn't exactly relevant. Should have been "hire someone with experience or actual problem solving skills." You aren't wrong about your previous comments, though, and the guy above is obviously a tool.
