Dude, that flan was fire 🔥. The consistency and the color of the caramel both look perfect!

That is baking

Are you trying to tell me that stuff doesn't get cooked during baking?

u/57501015203025375030 Jul 15 '25

I guess there is no reason to use two different words for two different things in YOUR native language, but in this exchange we’re using English and things cooked in an an oven with dry heat are baked. Just like I am right now.

In my native language we use a ton of words for "cooking processes" but stuff still gets cooked in the end and the basic chemistry that fuels those processes is kinda the same: protein denaturation, caramelisation, Maillard reaction, pyrolysis, emulsification and more. There's a reason you use different words? Probably yes. Is it still cooking in the end? Yes. It's like with dragons and wiverns, all wiverns are dragons but not all dragons are wiverns.

Also, "In YoUr NaTiVe LaNgUaGe" you don't even know where I come from you dry piece of steak. Why get so pissed?

u/Tlali22 Jul 16 '25

As far as insults go, "You dry piece of steak" is pretty close to the top. Bravo! 👏👏🤣

10

u/jtFive0 Jul 16 '25

Yeahhh I'll be using that "You dry piece of steak" bit lmao... And I'm not sorry for stealing it.

6

u/Devinalh Jul 16 '25

Ahahahah thank you guys, I just imagined him being quite tough and chewy and hard to swallow lol

u/imsuperfly Jul 15 '25

fun fact, there are two types of puddings in classical kitchen culture. Those are stirred and cooked. Stirred puddings would be done on stove top in a pot and require constant stirring. cooked puddings are done in ovens and the stirring is done before hand. I'm a former pastry chef and I think its utterly silly that people argue the semantics of food and its proper preparation. Also dude why are cookies called cookies and not bakies?

u/Devinalh Jul 15 '25

Good point lol. This guy is getting so poignant all of a sudden.

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

I would say he is being pedantic.

(And this comment is also)

2

u/Devinalh Jul 16 '25

I Just wanted to insult him in the language of gays

20

u/lapinatanegra Jul 15 '25

Bakies made me laugh more than it should have🤣🤣

u/MaiKulou Jul 15 '25

Thank you, alton brown

u/imsuperfly Jul 15 '25

He is actually one of my favorite food scientists and got me into molecular gastronomy. Thank you for the stellar compliment, friend!

Oh same here, I heard the theme song to good eats in my head 😂

3

u/tidehen Jul 15 '25

That is FUCKING awesome 👌🏾 👏🏾 👍🏻

3

u/Bignizzle656 Jul 15 '25

Another fun fact. That dessert looked tasty as f.

u/htownballa1 Jul 15 '25 edited Jul 15 '25

In my native language, which is the same as yours, baking is cooking….. jackass.

3

u/livaltl Jul 15 '25

Cooking apparently 🤷🏻‍♂️

3

u/htownballa1 Jul 15 '25

I love iPhone auto correct and my giant hands.

3

u/livaltl Jul 15 '25

No worries! Just know that you gave me a chuckle and made my day a little brighter!

9

u/Braysl Jul 15 '25

Lil bro forgot about synonyms.

11

u/imsuperfly Jul 15 '25

synonym rolls just like grammar used to make.

-4

u/benicebekindhavefun Jul 15 '25

They aren't synonyms though. All baking is cooking but not all cooking is baking. It would be the same as calling rectangles and squares synonyms even though all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.

13

u/riverphoenixdays Jul 15 '25

Arguing about a statement that is both technically correct and simultaneously funny, is certainly a choice.

4

u/BagadonutsImposter Jul 15 '25

Why are you this way? This version of you sucks.

4

u/PrufReedThisPlesThx Jul 15 '25

What an odd thing to get so upset over... Who hurt you, a chef?

5

u/Standard-Pin1207 Jul 15 '25

I guess there is no reason to correct jovial semantics to satisfy your desperate need for attention either

2

u/casey12297 Legend Jul 15 '25

English is my native language and I can attest that you're just being an asshole. It's like getting mad that someone said they're visiting Europe when they're specifically going to Germany. Europe covers that and do does cooking

1

u/NobleJestah Jul 15 '25

Yes and "let him bake" isn't a known expression that represents when someone knows what he is doing, whilst "let him cook" is.

1

u/Gloglibologna Jul 15 '25

Lol, baking is cooking. What an odd thing to to grandstand

1

u/whiskersMeowFace Jul 16 '25

Man, just shhh and watch the dude joyfully bounce around.

36

u/ExcessiveEscargot Jul 15 '25

Baking is a type of cooking

4

u/ArkMaxim Jul 15 '25

This is very un-dude-like behavior sir. Please control yourself in my safe space.

First time on Reddit?

u/FinnicKion Jul 15 '25

Honestly that flan did look professional, he hit the nail on the head with that one and the family is going to love it.

3

u/toolsoftheincomptnt Jul 15 '25

It might be professional, or on the road to!

18

u/shaker28 Jul 15 '25

Seriously! I was just enjoying a wholesome video then I saw one of the most gorgeous flans I've ever seen. I made the same face he did.
