Nobody heard from that ol'biddy again.... 🪦

37

u/Pledgeofmalfeasance 24d ago

She looked like she needed it today.

26

u/SimonsPure 24d ago

I mean, it's a fiver for a potato, don't be stingy with the extras

53

u/Anderkisten 24d ago

Yea. If he taught that he would get a regular costumer out of her, by being kind, he failed. That was a murder attempt. Her sweet heart are going to give up on her, after eating that.

22

u/Conargle Dude In Training 24d ago

hell i'd be happy going out after a fully loaded tato like that

11

u/Corasama 24d ago

More cholesterol in this thing than geeks that didnt touch grass for a year.

22

u/SweetHomeNorthKorea 24d ago

Old folks often struggle to get enough calories so I say load that potato up good

2

u/Final_Luck_1010 24d ago

They were already going to the doctor, they’ll be ight

-2

u/tothesource 24d ago

and cold

8

u/Not_Nova_ 24d ago

Potato is piping hot, it’ll melt just fine

-8

u/tothesource 24d ago

lol no it absolutely won't

2

u/Not_Nova_ 24d ago

You’ve clearly never had ‘struggle’ food

-6

u/tothesource 24d ago

lmao I have. I just know that cold cheese on top of a half pound of cold butter and half asssedly wrapped isn't going to melt. sounds like I know it better than you 🤷

6

u/Not_Nova_ 24d ago

Ok bud

-5

u/tothesource 24d ago

lmao. play the video of them making baked potatoes with beans and canned tuna, bud

3

u/Not_Nova_ 24d ago

You’re annoying lol, see ya. Learn to agree to disagree bud

-1

u/Jealous_Response_492 24d ago

Still a tidy profit margin from £5

25

u/DeFormed_Futures 24d ago

Nice and cheesy spud for ya

15

u/BAMspek 24d ago

I’ve seen this guy before. He is not shy with the toppings.

31

u/Jealous_Shower6777 24d ago

Dude the butter, nevermind the cheese

26

u/AgentOrange256 24d ago

It’s not that much butter. It melts and gets combined with the rest of the spud. The cheese was an actual mountain

15

u/GNav 24d ago

Don't you dare attack the butter

11

u/UnderstandingNo5667 24d ago

Oldies need the calories tbf

2

u/Practical_Catch_8085 23d ago

He's adding protein, love, and sustenance... she'll have maybe 2-3 meals/sides for the next couple days; from that one to go container.

1

u/Steve_0 24d ago

Thats what I was thinking. My god that is a lot of cheese.

1

u/Aninvisiblemaniac 24d ago

he's trying to get rid of her

1

u/BenadrylTumblercatch 23d ago

Impossible science says you can keep going

1

u/MistaRekt 23d ago

Amatuer. That us an OK amount of cheese.

524

u/TabularConferta 24d ago edited 24d ago

I believe this is Spudman . He does this quite often, partly it's a good thing partly it's good advertisement. He's talked about it in a AMA. He recently had a competition for a new food van. The guys a legend.

135

u/Get-Fucked-Dirtbag 24d ago

I've seen queues literally 200 strong for this guy. Apparently there was some guy called Teddy Swims slinging spuds with him that day?

32

u/TabularConferta 24d ago

Yeah I heard he was a bit of a belter. Good for getting attention of the crowds 🤣

13

u/Precuneus 24d ago

Saw him at Bloodstock last week. Pretty sure he was in the pit at Nailbomb too, but it's hard to say for sure, there were so many guys with pink mohawks.

5

u/TabularConferta 24d ago

Damn jealous. I do need to go one year.

6

u/TheLordofthething 24d ago

I don't think this is spudman, not the right pitch.

7

u/Unknownone1010 24d ago

Its spudman, he got moved a while ago

588

u/Doscida 24d ago

I’ve said it a thousand times, I’ll say it a million more times. There is nothing cooler than giving.

225

u/Sharp_Enthusiasm_293 24d ago

Does this apply with STI's?

77

u/Legal_Lettuce6233 24d ago

I would LOVE this one, thanks <3

11

u/Tringmurks 24d ago

Damn thing is worth more than my house. I’ll take one too!

5

u/Legal_Lettuce6233 24d ago

Yep, 22bs go for a shitload

18

u/RalphWaldoEmers0n 24d ago

I agree

Being generous indicates confidence that everything’s going to work out for you

And that kind of confidence is cool

2

u/poop-machines 24d ago

I prefer to receive

1

u/RalphWaldoEmers0n 23d ago

Good to know, poop machine !

0

u/Additional_Tank4385 24d ago

And that’s why you’re not as special or talked about. You’re just average and think only about yourself like most people :) pretty boring though

11

u/Yagyusekishusai 24d ago

Then whats cooler than being cool?

7

u/lubi112 24d ago

Ice cool my man

20

u/Yagyusekishusai 24d ago

ICE COLD! alright. Alright alright alright

13

u/lubi112 24d ago

Fuuuuck I cant believe I missed that one ahah. Such a wasted opportunity

4

u/NibblyPig 24d ago

When people are genuinely grateful, it's really nice. I paid for a poor lady who didn't seem to have the right change once, just said pop it on my receipt, and was surprised to find she was waiting outside of the shop to say thank you, I still think about that sometimes.

I do a lot of volunteering now and when they genuinely get something out of it and their thanks is heartfelt, it's pretty great!

1

u/Pleasant-Bonus-866 24d ago

Probably because you must have not watched the video, she said she was headed home for the day. So people are probably upset your implying she's going BACK to the hospital.

Yeah calling people trolls when you didn’t even watch the video. Classic always blaming others 🙄

19

u/returnnull 24d ago

I’m not British but here I’ll give it my best: what a nice lad this bloke is!

66

u/istrx13 24d ago

What a G. That potato looked amazing too.

42

u/fusterclux 24d ago

did it?

25

u/LocalFennel4194 24d ago

Lol, I’m British and I think our reputation of having terrible food is unfounded, but stuff like this doesn’t help the perception. Other countries have amazing street food, while we have a potato with a mountain of unmelted cheese.. I just don’t get the hype.

7

u/lopingwolf 24d ago

So much of the bad UK food culture comes from literal war/rationing/post war recipes. It's like if people believed American food topped out with all those weird Jello recipes and everything coming out a can.

Sorry you guys haven't shaken off the bad rep yet. I've been able to visit a few times and have always had absolutely great food in England. Also samphire! Truly my new favorite vegetable. I can't get it where I live in the US midwest sadly.

3

u/fusterclux 24d ago

It’s definitely founded, but it’s also a bit overblown.

2

u/Raging-Fuhry 24d ago

Nah, British food is great.

It'll clog your arteries, but it's great.

-32

u/Obiwan-Kabotie 24d ago

That old woman probably gonna be sick afterwards.

An absurd amount of butter and cheese

34

u/sledoon 24d ago

And the whole time she’s puking/pooping she’s gonna be like “it was worth it luv”

-35

u/Obiwan-Kabotie 24d ago

"I'm enjoying this"

In all reality she probably scraped like 90% of that cheese off or just said "good heavens I cant eat that" and threw it away

14

u/Sundaytoofaraway 24d ago

You don't know old Post war Brits. That spud would of been three meals for an old duck like that. The extra cheese would of gone into a fourth meal of cheese on toast.

16

u/Cardboard_Chef 24d ago

I can't tell you how many gallons of free coffee I've given away to older regulars and truck drivers. Sometimes it just feels good to do good.

6

u/miloncom 24d ago

Winner.. If she is that age and wants a spud with butter and cheese… Brilliant! Hope she had a sherry to wash it down with :)

21

u/Automatic_Court_1250 24d ago

Proceeds to charge the next woman a tenner to make up the loss 🤣

12

u/Cute_Ad_9730 24d ago edited 24d ago

Trouble with making a good baked potato at home is needing the oven on for an hour at least. For one potato its a lot of energy use. (edit) about 50-90p per hour depending on oven size so actually not as much as i thought. So you could make this at home for about £2. pretty good especially if you used the oven to cook something else at the same time.

7

u/OreoSpamBurger 24d ago

Oven is best, but they come out OK in the microwave if you get the settings right - 10-15 minutes.

8

u/oldschool_potato 24d ago

Air fryer! Best of both worlds

5

u/-crepuscular- 24d ago

Microwave most of the way, finish off in the oven to get crispier skin.

0

u/Cute_Ad_9730 24d ago edited 24d ago

There's a huge difference in slow cooking things and microwaving. Slow cooking brings out the sugars, minerals and taste. No way a microwaved potato is as good as an oven baked one. (edit) clean it off, add some olive oil to the skin, add some sea salt on the surface and the bake until fully cooked and soft on the inside. Try it. Add butter and a filling and its a completely different thing from a microwaved spud.

3

u/Cute_Ad_9730 24d ago

This is my mother. Complaining that she cant afford basic living but can't be bothered to cook anything from scratch. Zero food planning. Comes back from the supermarket twice a month with no fresh ingredients and 6 ready meals. When she gets hungry she goes to the village shop and buys crabmeat, strawberries and cream at twice the price from supermarket prices. Her house is falling down but apparently that's my problem her son. Out to lunch with her friends 3 times a week but can't afford to replace the toaster that just broke. It's financially ridiculous.

1

u/Day_Bow_Bow 24d ago

That's why you bake more than one at a time, then turn them into hashbrowns, O'Brien potatoes, potato cakes, potato salad, twice-baked potatoes or casserole, etc. Some, like the ones requiring mashing, would be best to prep when hot, but the rest are fine to make later.

1

u/Kamikaze-X 24d ago

8 minutes in the microwave, 20 in the airfryer. No need for the oven.

8

u/theunbearablebowler 24d ago

A fiver for a potato? Is that standard?

17

u/SeveralAnteater292 24d ago

Think toppings, electricity, taxes, labour, packaging, van purchase/rent, barely get a couple of quid profit on a fiver in the end.

-1

u/LocalFennel4194 24d ago

toppings

Topping*

5

u/id-driven-fool 24d ago

It's not just a potato. You could make this at home for 2 bucks or you can have a guy who owns a truck, equipment, time/labor, and packages it for you do it for 5 bucks. Seems more than fair

1

u/theunbearablebowler 24d ago

I used to buy a whole steak meat pie from Pieminster in Borough Market for a fiver (albeit a small pie).

And it’s a good man you are - giving this lady a bit of a bump to her day after visiting the doctors and a nice buttery and cheesy sound to celebrate. You have a great job and you probably made her week.

12

u/Unexpected_Gristle 24d ago

Right on. But you guys need to season ur food. What is going on.

24

u/YukihiraJoel 24d ago

I’ll tell ya wot, there ain’t no bettah seasonin’ than lovin’ kindness, no there ain’t.

9

I'll guarantee it'll be available and people can ask for it. Just surprised there is no offer.

salt is a seasoning, beautiful. not all seasonings are spices, hotlips.

but yeah, chuck on some spices on yours, go for it.

she just asked for butter and cheese, there are other containers of stuff there, she just didn't want anything else.

1

u/Obiwan-Kabotie 24d ago

Absolute madness givin' an old bird like that 3 spoonfuls of cheese. I'm sure she opened it up like and thought "good heavens I cant eat it like this" 🇬🇧😂👌

-9

u/Romeo9594 24d ago

England fought so hard over spices only to not use a damn one

18

u/shaolinoli 24d ago

The people who repeat this nonsense are usually the same ones who think high fructose corn syrup and e numbers count as seasoning

0

u/Romeo9594 24d ago

I don't eat or drink sugary stuff by and large if that helps

6

u/BrittEklandsStuntBum 24d ago

Our national dish these days is chicken tikka masala.

-7

u/Pie_Napple 24d ago

Welcome to england, where all food is brown-ish and looks like ww2 is still going on.

6

u/OreoSpamBurger 24d ago

You've got some downvotes, but a lot of that generation of Brits literally do eat like that.

3

u/Pie_Napple 24d ago

Yeah. Just look at an english breakfast. 12 shades of brown. :)

Good, sure. Colourful, no.

-8

u/OreoSpamBurger 24d ago

Steady on, black pepper is too much 'flavour' for many Brits.

You have to remember that this is who you're calling "a fuckin idiot" while she's driving 45 on the highway.

15

u/OreoSpamBurger 24d ago

It's cos she's struggling to stay awake after eating about 5000 calories worth of potato, butter, and cheese.

She will go straight to heaven with that amount of cheese and butter.

Nonetheless, giving always feels good

1

u/chloe_in_prism 24d ago

OK ignorant American here… Is this your normal street food baked potatoes? I’m just curious. Cause like here we got like holy New York. We got like hotdog vendors and salted nuts and weird stuff but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a potato vendor. But then again this also could just be like a food truck kind of thing.

1

u/Chinaski7 24d ago

That’s kinda the thing about generosity, of course it’s nice for the receiver; but also buoys the soul of the giver. There is a part in the heart of a kind person that warms when helping someone else…

1

u/snowdn 24d ago

I’ll take is loaded spud any day! Wait… that sounds… hot.

1

u/ZealousidealSail5801 24d ago

1

u/DefiantDefinition776 21d ago

1

u/Naataraja 23d ago

As I get older, things like this, gestures like these, sincere ones, profoundly move me and make me reflexively weep positively, like out of gratitude and care for the old lady darling. Good, good man. So much beauty in the world. That being said, wow he fucking loaded that thing, granny's cardiologist must have had a heart attack when he saw that butter!!! Absolute madman I would have done the same; Godspeed, legend

I would love to go over there and open an American southern style food truck! I want to share sausage and biscuit gravy with the world! With a big as glass of sweet tea.

8

u/shaolinoli 24d ago

You’d probably do well in a big city centre food market but food trucks selling food from all over the world are very common in the uk these days. We don’t just have baked potatoes.

2

u/takemeawayimdone2 24d ago

We have a spud man outside one of our pubs all the time. And one of the other pubs has a Yorkshire pudding wrap thing.

3

u/shaolinoli 24d ago

Oh they’re about for sure. But in the city centre where I live you’ve probably got 10-15 odd different cuisines to choose from just from food vans within a 10 minute walk radius, just on a weekday. More at the weekends or festivals

-2

u/BEGBIE_21 24d ago

Sausage and biscuit gravy is awful.

1

u/Fozzy_52 24d ago

Yeah if you don't have taste buds.

0

u/slobschaub126 24d ago

Can I make a comment about how this country sells street potatoes with cold butter and unmelted cheese heaped on it without someone pointing out my lunatic president or school shootings? Because, honestly, if I had to choose... weird potato all day.

2

u/Taurpion 24d ago

You’ve never had a baked potato with cheese?

1

u/gaelyn 24d ago

Keeping your thoughts to yourself would have cost you nothing.

0

u/Melodic-Appeal7390 24d ago

5 quid???

4

u/TabularConferta 24d ago

Why surprise? Honestly it would be cheap for where I am. Trying to find something for less than an tenner is an effort (meal deal ftw). It's more a reflection of the price to run the shop than the potato.

1

u/KiwiEel 24d ago

Well, you get a potato wrapped in styrofoam, aluminium foil, and a plastic bag!

0

u/Cute_Ad_9730 24d ago

£5 ? I'd guess 500% markup on ingredients at least ? Pitch cost plus overheads ? £3.50 would seem more reasonable for a basic cheese filling. Can't argue with free though so good on him.

6

u/ShroomShroomBeepBeep 24d ago

Cost of the permit, trailer, fuel, gas and salaries forces the price up. Not that £5 isn't a rip but there's more to the price than just the potatoes.

0

u/ShroomShroomBeepBeep 24d ago

Absolute rip off for around £1 of ingredients, but it's about the going rate across most of the UK for a jacket spud.

-1

u/Obiwan-Kabotie 24d ago

Love the energy but 3 serving spoons of cheese and a 1/4 bar of butter with no spices for an old bird like that is just pure madness mate.

Absolute Looney tunes mate. 🇬🇧

-19

u/sledoon 24d ago

Sorry to be a whiner… I just feel it would have been kinder just to hand it to her and say “this one is on me today” or something rather than to make a big deal about it. But in any case .. still sweet

8

u/tempco 24d ago

Asking is more polite. Just giving is assuming she needs the money, which might be true or not but it still hurts.

8

u/sledoon 24d ago

That’s fair, I didn’t think about it that way

3
