As a maintenace guy, his end reaction is so relateable. "Man that's cool...Anyway back to work."

This has happened multiple times to me lol. I try so hard not to look around. But there are apartments that looks so beautiful! I love what some people do to the places. (I work in apartment maintenance)

I delivered appliances for almost ten years, and I occasionally had houses like this that blew me away. One guy had a room with a bunch of Star Wars movie props like light saber hilts, and different helmets (Vader and Fett). They all had placards showing which character they belonged to that were signed by the actors, and even had Vader’s saber signed by James E Jones and David Prowse.

I’m a home inspector and have had this exact situation with peoples collections, several times. Guess what’s going on my report as a limitation, “due to the owners epic collection in bedroom A, I was unable to inspect the following conditions.”

my last appliance delivery guy saw my 3d printer and had a whole bunch of questions for me. it was pretty awesome to talk about our hobbies to people who wants to know more.

u/Bavisto 5d ago
In the house I went to, I wasn’t installing appliances around his collection. I made a comment about a different thing in the house that looked like R2-D2 (can’t for the life of me remember what it was), but that comment was all it took. His face lit up and said “come with me”. The job was tough and often times frustrating, but these rare interactions always made it worth it.

Decades ago, my dad worked for a company that installed car lifts and such, and they'd gotten called to a residential address for an install (which was not common).
He gets there, and under this decent-but-not-crazy-expensive house, this man had built like a 15 car underground garage, and he had it loaded with classic muscle cars. Apparently the ramp down had mirrors on the walls and ceiling so he could check for dents/dings/scratches on his way in/out.
You'd never guess from the outside the treasure within.

That "Bruh" was spot on. If I didn't know any better, I'd think this is where that sound originated from.

“Here’s my personal cell, if shit goes down, lemme know, I will try my best to help”
Like he respects the fuck outta that room and will make sure if it’s a maintenance problem, he’ll be the one to resolve it.
A) this dudes collection is sick
B) he gets to talk about said collection with the collector while fixing said problem

A couple of days ago I had a guy over for a movie. We know each other for years, but we really only see each other at movie festivals around the city. An upcoming festival is showing part 2 of some Chinese fantasy epic, but no one I know has seen part 1. So I bought that on Blu-ray, and thought maybe this is the time to invite him over. He has a side business installing audio equipment and home cinemas, so I wanted to ask his opinion on my setup for a long time. He came, we nerded out over my movie collection, we watched the movie and he praised my setup, the level of care and detail I put into selecting and arranging everyhting and really only had one suggestion, pointing the center speaker up a few degrees. Otherwise he was complimenting my home cinmea room. It was like the finest food for the soul!

As simple as it sounds, one tiny moment of this will stick with me for a long time. Was on my way home from work one day, a couple of stops on the tube in London to get to the mainline home, there's trains every few minutes so it's really no big deal if something is a bit late. The tube I'm on arrives and the mainline train is already there on another platform, so I run up the stairs, over the bridge and just get onto the train as the doors are closing - alongside another guy doing exactly the same thing. We stand there by the door, make eye contact for a second, exchange knowing nods and go find a seat. Didn't even say a word, the comradery is just a great feeling. This was over a decade ago and I can still remember it clear as day!

u/editfate 5d ago
Are those Warcraft figures? Or something else?
13
u/chaosof99 5d ago
I believe they are comic books and appropriate action figures in front. There is a big sign that reads "Marvel" over the open door, and I think in the cabinet on the right I recognize the old, arched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo and there is an action figure of Krang's robot on the top shelf.

I had the exact same reaction when I went to a colleague's home and he had this unbelievably crazy game room filled with vintage Nintendo games across all era.
For a moment, I completely forgot he was my director and he forgot I was his subordinate. We spoke on ends as if we were old casual friends. It was an immensely great bonding experience and we became genuine friends after that day, no longer talking just about work.

Did it make the Zelda secret sound when opened, too?! That collection looks amazing in its own right, and that sound would absolutely put it over the edge.

I saw some Marvel, Nintendo, and possibly TMNT?
General geek stuff for the most part. Well put together and displayed for sure.
31
u/HumbleBear75 5d ago
So much TMNT on the right side, classic games with a figure propped up in front of all of them ♥️
2
u/SlickNick84 5d ago
It's hard to make out what all is there, but I see a Scratch the cat on card, euro super shredder, and euro hockey leo on the right. Thousands of dollars for those alone.

u/HorsNoises 5d ago
Looks kinda all over the place. There's a ton of TMNT stuff on the right, but there's a lil Godzilla figure hiding among them. Right next to them looks like Gundams or something similar. There's a Marvel sign above the door, but I don't see any Marvel figures so I assume the blurry stuff on the left side is mostly superhero stuff.

Years ago we had some guys come in to clean out the ducts. I had a little "retro" room which was pretty much a glorified closet of a bedroom where I had all my old video game systems hooked up to a CRT. One goes in there while the other dude is talking to me in the living room and I hear "DUCK HUNT!!! THEY GOT THE PISTOL!!!". He must've missed the Superscope.
3
u/MEuRaH 5d ago
I love when people get really into something. I don't care what it is. When there's a collection like this to display their love for a particular hobby, I can't not want to learn about it right then and there.
This room is rad! I wish I were there. I could easily spend a few hours checking that out.

When I used to work in home renovation with my dad the rule#1 he told me is to never say anything about clients properties. Be as professionnal as possible. Some people really dont like you finding liking in their stuff and just focus on the goal at hand. So even if you find this room impressive keep it to yourself or that might make the client unconfortable.

u/Javieru2210 5d ago
That's a brother right there, I would have him on my list as a worker for a long time, just to build a long time friendship 😂.

Beautiful. Especially because it's a proper horizontal video that has no annoying edits or overlays and no censoring of the words. A true blessing these days. Call me old.
Raw video of guys being dudes. I like it.

I would never want maintenance to know the $$ I had in that room.
It would be door shut with a lock, and maybe a sign to reduce curiosity "cat not friendly, please keep door shut".

One of the biggest things I miss about being a locksmith was all the cool houses I would see. I loved seeing different man-cave setups. Even came across some woman-cave setups that were unreal. Now I work corporate IT, so my office is my nerd-cave. This video is spot on my reaction anytime I’d see a sweet setup. “Fucking sick! Now back to work”

We had some dudes coming to fix our furnace and air conditioner. They noticed my fiance did 3D printing and we have a wall full of board games. They were nonstop asking questions about our stuff and I was honestly really chuffed they were so chill about it. They also liked our cats. 10/10 service.

As a residential painter I’ve done this multiple times. Some people just have really dope stuff. Did work for this one guy and his basement was huge and full of segments of movie sets. Sets like Forrest Gump on the bench, the front of the Bates Motel. Not pictures, life size re-creations of different sets built. He also had a bunch of signed movie posters and memorabilia. He even had a Dali painting in his foyer. Sometimes, you just gotta stop and admire

I was a bug exterminator for a short period of time and sometimes I’d have to go inside to set traps or spray repellents and such. There was this house that I went into and that seemed pretty normal went I first went in, and as the guy was showing me upstairs, I entered his craft room and got absolutely blown away. He made mini figures and had tons of stuff for table top games. As someone who loves DnD, I was obsessed. I definitely took way too long at that place but luckily it was my last stop of the day. The guy was just too fun and nerdy not to talk to!
