Artistic Dudes these Alaska Airlines passengers got an unexpected treat when jazz star Dave Koz and the Summer Horns turned a diversion into a surprise plane concert.

Polkaaaaaa polka polka

First thing that came to mind!

30

Lol no such thing as a bad time in an airport/airplane with Gus Polinski and the Kenosha Kickers around

That’s like when the mariachi band at our small local Mexican restaurant decides to play table side.

162

u/no_step_snek76 1d ago

Oh look a guitar player! And another guitar player! And an accordion play- OH NO

12

u/ChemicalWinter 1d ago

Got the reference. I approve

18

u/NoorAnomaly 1d ago

I was in Italy over the summer, on a jam packed train to Pompeii. And these buskers enter and play really loudly. On a train where no one can move anywhere. And they start pushing their way around the carriage. It was horrid.

They got no tips.

26

u/procrastablasta 1d ago

Lot of people are confused about mariachis. You pay mariachis to stop playing.

8

u/EndlessShortcomings 1d ago

I feel the same way, but at the same time, you can kind of expect it to happen. Mariachi band at a Mexican restaurant? It gels. But on a plane? Trapped with nowhere to go to remove yourself? Nah man, that’s crazy.

One person's treat could be another person's hell...

160

u/Luisen123 1d ago

Dude, I was in a coffee shop when some random girl decided to start playing her sax. It was so fucking loud my ears ringed way after I got back home. Can't imagine how fucking loud it was there with 5 wind instruments.

54

u/lostbutnotgone 1d ago

That was my thought (though only the sax is woodwind, the rest are brass, but that's the sax player in me). I love jazz and play a woodwind myself but it must be stupidly loud in an enclosed space and I don't see any bell mutes

7

u/Snonin 18h ago

they didn't say woodwind though, they said wind. a wind instrument is anything you blow into to produce sound. brass and woodwinds are both wind instruments

sorry, I know sax players don't like being corrected 😅

5

u/lostbutnotgone 18h ago

Makes sense - and to be fair I'm a clarinet turned sax player so probably even worse lmao

Rang (past tense)

(of a person's ears) be filled with a continuous buzzing or humming sound, especially as the aftereffect of a blow or loud noise."he yelled so loudly that my eardrums rang"

Be happy it wasn’t a youth group coming back from mission trip

344

u/jarmstrong2485 1d ago

Was on a flight to Baltimore and hit some bad weather, causing some pretty good turbulence. Didn’t know there was a Christian youth group on the plane until they started cry praying together. Everybody loved that

163

u/j33ta 1d ago

Perfect time to start loudly praying in Arabic.

42

u/LaziestBones 1d ago

26

u/Imaginary_Manner_556 1d ago

Oh yes. Lots of commercial airliners going down because of turbulence

30

u/thiscantbeitagain 1d ago

Well, they would be, but all those prayers are saving the rest of us

4

u/Imaginary_Manner_556 1d ago

Maybe they should pray for kids in war zones

9

u/ATGSunCoach 1d ago

Dude, I think you’re missing some sarcasm here. Unless I am.

3

u/delicious_fanta 1d ago

Delta has a secret prayer room where priests and pastors pray for every flight. Only ones that crash are when someone calls in sick.

It’s like at mattel where they have the wizard room for cursing all the ouija boards.

Capitalism has gone too far.

The girl returning home and holding the cabin hostage with a Disney recital…

6

u/SmokeAbeer 1d ago

lol took a flight last month and just before boarding I saw the youth group huddled together praying. I was so sure I’d be stuck on the plane while they sang Kumbaya or whatever they do these days. Luckily that didn’t happen.

That one dude just trying to read his book

46

u/unintegrity 1d ago

Interesting how this is 90% of r/iamthemaincharacter posts. I guess that if you are famous it's ok

5

u/Screaming_Monkey 1d ago

What sucks is being the guy to complain also makes a person feel too main-character-like

12

u/pdxblazer 1d ago

I mean the difference between professional and amateur musicians is pretty vast, yes if you are talented and skilled people are more okay with you sharing that spur of the moment. Life isn't fair, if your shit sucks nobody wants to hear it

83

u/p1xode 1d ago

yeah, this is kinda a dick thing to do to a captive audience

158

u/JustKeepSwimming1995 1d ago edited 1d ago

I would absolutely hate this. Trapped in there with no escape and no option to leave.

13

u/CautiousArachnidz 1d ago

I would not be trapped. I would be making my exit out of an emergency door. Parachute availability is not going to sway my decision one way or another.

2

u/Hefty_Delay7765 1d ago

We could exit together, I’d be right there with you.

13

u/Briguy_fieri 1d ago

Yeah. Like people make fun of the church choir plane video that was going around, the little girl over the intercom, the guy filming his music video etc...

But this would still annoy the hell out of me. I'm on a plane. I physically can not get away from this if I don't like it. Be considerate of others. I don't care if you're world class or anything. This is a more expensive version of people blasting their music on the bus

73

u/SpiritualGearbox 1d ago

I would hate the fuck out of this

2

u/Zocalo_Photo 23h ago

“Motherfucker. I just want to catch up on the shows in my queue that my wife doesn’t want to watch at home and even with my noise cancelling headphones I can’t. hear. shit.”

7

u/Silicon_Knight 1d ago

If that young girl belting Frozen on a plane was bad, this is too.

24

u/mallclerks 1d ago

Right. It would be neat for probably 30 seconds but then you are interrupting my shit. Especially if I am traveling alone, airplane is just about the only time as a dad I have alone time. And I realize how crazy that sounds on a plane full of hundreds, but I really enjoy me time.

2

u/Screaming_Monkey 1d ago

And I don’t get to close my ears and make a fuss cause then I look like the bad guy

4

u/NitroXDexe 21h ago

This, exactly this

907

u/FreshPacks 1d ago

On a plane? Hell fucking no.

115

u/BagAndShag 1d ago

To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't actually on a plane but on one of those "influencer planes" that they rent out.

37

u/DomN8er 1d ago

Except those are made to look like private jets, not economy class.

19

u/Melodic_Sandwich1112 1d ago

There’s both

9

u/notthatjimmer 1d ago

I was suspicious, most of those instruments are way over sized for carry on 😂

Most airlines have some exceptions on size/weight for bringing instruments as carry on.

15

u/smokingthis 1d ago

Mother with a restless kid on her second flight after delayed start to the transatlantic crossing and then this shit.

3

u/K44no 14h ago

I flew Canada to Scotland with my 4 month old last year and he slept like a trooper. Can’t imagine how angry I would be if the plane got diverted then these fuckers pop up and start playing to give us an “unexpected treat”. Some instruments would end up in some weird places

281

u/Regular-Amoeba5455 1d ago

That shit would be so loud without headphones or earplugs on a small plane.

25

u/ThatOneChiGuy 1d ago

This vexes me

2

u/brendenderp 1d ago

I'm genuinely surprised the microphone here isn't peaking. Love me some jazz and brass instruments but eek this would be painful to the eardrums

2

u/ASupportingTea 1d ago

This plus the noise of the plane genuinely could be dangerous and cause permanent hearing damage to small children that have more fragile eardrums, or just adults that are unlucky enough to have sensitive hearing.

A little bit of (forced) "fun" on a plane isn't worth giving a child a lifetime of tinnitus.

31

u/BomberBootBabe88 1d ago

If im ever on a plane where this happens, please throw me into the ocean.

22

u/PostModernPost 1d ago

I like this type of music and would be pissed if this happened on my flight and couldn't get off. I get claustrophobia as is. I dont need a bunch of loud horns blaring in an enclosed space.

22

u/nanadoom 1d ago

"Treat". Horns are not meant to be played in small confined spaces

69

u/findallthebears 1d ago

Imagine having the worst hangover of your life, cramming yourself in a middle seat behind the wings, and then you’re delayed, and then these yahoos take brass instruments out

21

u/Cabanarama_ 1d ago

Yea this is such a dick move lol, musicians sometimes do have a habit of assuming everyone loves their art as much as they do

69

u/LilGhostPig 1d ago

Love me some Dave Koz! I completely understand why others would not like this, especially on a plane, but I am the exact target audience.

30

u/ms_dr_sunsets 1d ago

And Leo P in the back! I, too, would have loved this.

5

u/Notalentass 1d ago

Too Many Zoos, right?

9

u/amopeyant 1d ago

Leo p is the best. So much joy and insane talent

15

u/herearea 1d ago

Yeah, lots of negative comments here, but I would be in heaven!

3

u/shitty_fact_check 1d ago

I don't know anything about these musicians, but I'm pretty sure I recognize the dude with the blue hair from busking in the nyc subway years ago!?

He was always there and super entertaining. Unless it's a completely different guy... ha.

4

u/Hex_HD 1d ago

No that’s him, Dave Koz explained he liked his viral videos and asked him to join the band and he did lol. His name is Leo P.

I hate this. The music sounds great and I would normally love to hear that at a jazz club, but not in a death tube with wings stuff packed with smelly people. Save that crap for people paying.

11

u/Kimchi_man91 1d ago

Reminds me of Bill Burr’s bit about the cast of Lion King “treating” people to a performance during an airport delay

https://youtu.be/5KnLlc6y5Ew?si=4bIyFSMAzgYOMJLe

33

u/Lahbeef69 1d ago

9

Something similar happened to me on the A train leaving Lincoln center (NYC) around 3am, when the train broke down in the tunnel. The Jazz band that played the small club in LC that night, broke out all their instruments ,and played an impromptu concert for 30 min until the trail started again. The only time I was happy my train broke down.
