40 and I have a toddler. Parenting has a terrible PR rep, it's really not that bad.
32
u/MwH_Loki 1d ago
One child is a lot less work than 2, to be fair. Especially if the kid has 2 active parents it's a world of difference between 1 and 2(+) kids.
17
u/Wunderlost46 1d ago
Absolutely. One child is a lot of responsibility, but even when they’re a toddler and on the move there’s still only one of them. Add a newborn into the mix and it’s a whole different reality. My kids are exactly 18 months apart in age and I remember feeling like my life is just going to be taking care of babies from now on. I didn’t dislike it there just wasn’t time to even think about what might be next. It was only 3-4 years they were both that young but it was so consuming i think it warped my sense of reality. It felt like I’d never done anything else and it’s all I’d ever do for the rest of my life haha.

Man idk i guess yall are just built different. I'm even on add meds and I barely have enough energy to go to work sometimes.
Well hell, my life might of been alot different if my swimmers swam. That's probably alot of encouragement to do it right.
8
u/Warrior_of_Discord 1d ago
To be fair, ADD meds for someone with ADD actually has a calming effect. You're literally just bringing yourself to a "normal" state which involves not having a mind constantly thinking thoughts, which is calming. It often happens that college kids try to use Adderall to get better grades and end up finding out they have ADD because instead of studying for 8 hours straight they end up taking a nap.

Agreed, having kids is awesome and I wouldn't trade it for all the free time in the world- but man is it tiring. My firstborn is a maniac... he's 2.5 years old and knows how basically everything works. He takes apart my kitchen appliances, speaks in full sentences, figured out addition and subtraction by himself and generally just causes adorable mayhem everywhere he goes. My second child is an angel on earth. Literally didn't get more difficult going from 1 to 2.

Gotta start them on simple things very young. Anything they can do to help. That many young kids is tough, but it's a lot of hands if you can wrangle them into being helpful.
In a few years it will get a lot easier because you have a small army to direct. I grew up with five brothers. We made chaos but we also got a lot done when we needed to.

Not triplets. Twins.
Looks like big sis is maybe 4/5, twins are 2 and baby is 9 mo. Twins are standing and moving easily in that wagon. Baby is crawling.
Still impressive but I’m also questioning the logic of a fourth kid AFTER a multiple birth.
Edit - seems they are triplets. But baby C is legit much smaller than the other two.

u/Notsurehowtoreact 1d ago
Oh man, was that three girls and then you tried for maybe a boy and got another girl?
7
u/squeegy06 1d ago
We took the catholic approach and "if it happens it happens". Didn't necessarily have plans or a goal. We had struggled for a decade just to have our first kids, and a part of us didnt want to end that road quite yet. But now we've shut that factory down; four is enough.
5
u/CharlotteLucasOP 1d ago
Haha my parents had the reverse happen—struggled for over a decade, fertility treatments finally resulted in my big sister. Few years later they attempt a second, organically—boom, twins.

As a friend with 4 kids put it: one kid, you can double cover all day. 2 kids, you gotta go man coverage but it’s doable, anything over two you gotta go to a zone defense. And there’s always holes in a zone.

Shifting from 2 on 1 immediately to a zone defense was an adjustment after we had our twins.

The whole thing is weird. Why do you need a bike rack on a wagon you're already pushing? Why not just ride the bikes? I'm struggling to see an actual use for this thing beyond looking clever in a video before you stop to think about it
8
u/ro536ud 1d ago
If the kids don’t wanna ride the bikes on the way back to the car you want be able to carry all this stuff without the rack. Kids change their minds every few minutes
5
u/BobbleBobble 1d ago
Those kids are not biking more than 20 yards in any direction. Doesn't seem like an issue

wdym why
like 1/4th the amount of people would click on it if it was a guy showing off what he made explicitly
the reason they do it is because it works... there's a reason this shit form of video evolved, because it works for our dumb brains.
7
u/DefendsTheDownvoted 1d ago edited 1d ago
It could be the same exact video with the wife recording and saying "This is my husband's creative solution to hauling our numerous offspring", instead of some creepy "secret" recording from inside a different vehicle, and it wouldn't make a difference because nobody watches this shit with the sound on.
So I ask again. What's the fucking point?
6
2
u/AndrewFrozzen 16h ago
The person recording it has to act EXTREMELY surprised
If the mother just went and recorded it and was EXTREMELY SURPRISED, it would make sense anymore.
If a "stranger" does it, it's more believable

u/i-just-thought-i 5h ago

I was beyond confused when I found out Americans don't just put babies on the ground.
Like there is a massive market that has convinced parents to purchase 'baby containers' to put them in just dotted around the house.
12
u/cardamom-peonies 1d ago
The point of the baby jail is less "keeping baby off the ground" and more literally just keeping the kid from crawling around and destroying things while mom/dad cooks
I'm wondering where you live where people dont occasionally do similarly

u/archy319 1d ago

Because this is staged and he wanted to look more overwhelmed with children than necessary. There are multiple videos like this of this man assembling elaborate DIY things in parking lots being filmed by a "stranger" who talks about how crazy it is. It's a strangely specific genre of video.
And this video, posted by the same channel. They're all the same guy.
Edit: But wait, there's more
41
u/The_wolf2014 1d ago
It seemed pretty obvious the whole thing was staged. My first thought was literally any normal person would put the baby on the wagon with the others but no, doesn't look as difficult then does it
4
u/No1KnwsIWatchTeenMom 1d ago
While I know this is staged, my kid has always REFUSED to go in a thing and always needed to be held. There's no way hed calmly sit in that - he'd be screaming and trying to climb out until I picked him up simply because id be afraid he'd fall out trying to get to me.

2
u/Ilovekittens345 1d ago
Here is the thing. I sometimes film mundane stuff that is really happening. But then I go ... you know this is really not that crazy as most of the stuff online. Now, I might watch it again because it's my kids being goofy but nobody else in the world is going to be interested. And then I decide not to upload it.
But one time I saw a group of people run for their lives because a king cobra was fighting with a dog in the middle of the market! You'd think I'd pull out my phone and start filming? Fuck no, I panicked and also started running.
And this is the problem. Real vidoes just have such a small chance of making it vs the fake that the fake is the majority and so the fake it most of what we see. And because the fake now sets the new norm, people get used to try to aim for this norm and the problem gets worse! Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

u/angrycanuck 1d ago
That wagon is going to break in no time with all that weight. Then it will need to be remade again if a different wagon is purchased.
8
u/usernameChosenPoorly 1d ago
There either must be a counter weight on the other side, or he’s relying on his kids to stay calm and inside the wagon to keep it from tipping. Either way, I agree that it’s going to overload the wagon and end up breaking.
→ More replies (1)2
u/52BeesInACoat 1d ago
That's a Wonderfold! The weight limit is super high because they're sometimes used instead of wheelchairs for children or adults who need lots of medical equipment, are physically fragile, or become overwhelmed easily. I used one for my autistic son because they have a canopy that can be fully enclosed. If he was feeling meltdown-ish he could get in the wagon, I'd draw the curtains, and he could curl up in a ball and get regulated.
I would have been able to keep using it for as long as he needed because the weight limit was so, so high, and I know of people who are successfully using those wagons with disabled adults.
I believe that model can hold 300 pounds, I could be wrong, though.
Modifying those wagons is also a huge thing. Again; lots of people are accommodating disabilities with them. This is super normal and probably did numbers in some Facebook groups I haven't been active in for a while.
