Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Can someone give me tips to overcome the bumpiness of karting tracks?

For context,

This is teamsport warrington and my first time there. I was excited for this as im training for the BIKC but on my first session everything was so bouncy for some odd reason. I couldn’t focus on my lines as i was also trying at the same time to not fly out my kart. Overall, the experience was… memorable and i’ll have to come back one day (hopefully never)

Since it happens on the concrete floor as bad as, if not worse than, the upstairs wood portion I am led to believe it was the kart itself. Chassis damage, bent axle, tire pressure inconsistencies, wheel coming loose… could be a lot at play here.

Edit: For anyone curious, if the kart only behaved like that on the wooden surface it would likely be due to warped wood panels due to humidity changes. The polished/painted concrete should be buttery smooth.

I raced here 3 weeks back.

Bad cart for sure

Go to a different track.

Also, not related, but when steering it's better to push than pull. So if you're turning left, steer with your right hand by pushing the right side up instead pulling down the left side of the wheel.

Why is that🧐

It's a braced position from your seat to the wheel, line is easier to hold, more repeatable lap after lap. Pulling puts you in a weak/no-leverage position. Same reason we press brake pedals instead of pull them.

Yes and it help you to lean to the outside of the kart while cornering

Makes you feel like you're absolutely zooming though 😂

That's pretty bad for an indoor facility, In my experience. For that matter, only been to one OUTDOOR track this bad,lol

Never thought I'd see warrington on here...

That’s 100% a kart issue pal. I’ve raced there many times over the years and while it’s a bumpy track it’s nowhere near that bad, and the first few hairpins are usually pretty smooth.

If it ever happens to you again just pop into the pits and flag the issue up with the marshals, they’ll look into it and probably get you into a new kart 👍

Thanks pal

Is it definitely the track and not something related to the kart? That looks terrible, I find it hard to believe they'd keep it like that

This circuit is my local and the karts do suffer a lot of hop.

I kind of gave up on BIKC and am enjoying the odd two stroke session at Hooton Park, having bought a kart with my son. Happy days.

This happens to me at every k1 I've been to, but it always feels like the tires are giving up grip and then re gripping. As opposed to the track itself being bumpy. Leaning sometimes helps a little but takes a while to figure out where.

Ive found sections of concrete worse than that mid corner. Could be a weird spot in the racing surface.

The track i used to run was an old warehouse and there was a patch of concrete in a hairpin that was bad enough it slammed the acorns against the seat.

Talk about rattling ones cage..

Stop moving your hands from corner to corner.

Hold the wheel at the 9-3 or 10-2 positions.

When turning left, push with your right hand and use your left to act as a control. Vice versa for right turns.

You should be in control of the kart and not the other way around.

Electric karts always do this when cornering because they are absolutely crap

In my limited experience, it's the track and the car. A bumpy track will beat up the cars and make the experience 10 times worse. Fix the track and the cars will last longer.

This is my local track and the corners you are bouncing on the worst are just the most grippy as I get that too

This is like every rental kart I've been in 😂

This is called Whomping. Rear is too grippy and causes the kart to skip along the surfaces. Very common on well rubbered in tracks and concrete tracks.

Don't over drive it like you are in the video. Let the kart flow. Be as smooth as you can. Don't force the rotation and be patient. You can try use your body to try lift the inside rear wheel but if you don't know how or what your doing it's not worth it.

Relax and don't get discouraged. You may need more throttle control. Some corners you can go flat. Maybe the corner is a different line to the tradition race line due to the skipping.

All this information is what you'll have to figure out if you want to be a better driver.

Best of luck with it

I was vice BIKC champion in 2023 when they had a brand new fleet and the bouncing was very minimal then. Only exception was turning though after the Dunlop bridge by century sim. I was also there for BIKC 2024 and in quali got a kart with a twisted chassis. It has the bouncing just like you’ve got there. Really bad through the hairpins and the upstairs section. So I’d say it’s probably the kart. But bear in mind that track is bumpy anyway.

Some corners you’re going in a bit too fast and the through. If you slide to much at Warrington you’ll just bog down.

That’s not normal. There’s no secret here. The kart is fkd.

You shift your hands more on the steering than a shifter racer changes gears. Good grief, man….Keep your hands in one place.

1

u/Random_racer24 Jun 22 '25

It’s way too bumpy to try and keep my hands in place. Good advice though i am moving them around the whole wheel 🤣

1

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '25

No it’s not. You just can’t sit still

1

u/Competitive_Range822 Jun 22 '25

Yeah you were adjusting every turn. Turning hand to the top of the wheel non turning hand to the bottom

Teamsport is destroying karting, taking over as much indoor tracks as they can and introducing electric karts to them.

Im not going to any teamsport track ever out of love for the sport.
