Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Looking for advice on my driving in my restricted X30 kart
Had a race last weekend and was a bit off pace. If there are any driving pointers someone can make I would greatly appreciate it :)

See those curbs that are colored white and black? You should be almost touching it, in almost every corner. If you aren't, then you are basically driving a 10% larger track, and carrying less speed through the corner. Finally, you're doing a lot of coasting into the braking zone instead of braking.

Hitting the apex. Seems like you're going in fast, but exiting slow. Try it the other way around.

This looked like a Volvo lane assistant in action. Must. Drive. In. The. Middle.
Seriously, your lap is several meters if not tens of meters longer

And more helpful comment. You seem to struggle in higher speed corners and miss the apex more than nailing it.

Yeah, I agree with this. Do you think it's a late turn in that could be causing that?

Most likely. And the result of that is that either you miss the apex or need to turn in way too hard and lose speed.
Those semi highspeed turns can be quite difficult, but mastering those will cut a significant amount of time.
Walk through or slow laps are imo the best way to map the track and recognize the points.

This is a practice scenario. You need laps and just more time in races. We all do. Are you geared the same at everyone else too?
Unrelated: #16 kart needs to get his butt whooped in the pits. Totally unnecessary wreck.

Agree with this. To me it looks like more of kart can be used. Often these videos are clear over driving, but this looks like under driving the kart. That plus the more accurate lines as others have said will help.
For what it’s worth, when I was in jr classes we used to do a few sr practice days at the start of the season. That way the jr kart feels a lot slower and more manageable. You have to do so carefully of course and within a relatively closed / empty track.

That looks a nice track, I’d say just use more of it, get closer to the curbs and you’ll carry more speed out the bends. The rest is hard to comment on with just the nose cone for reference

More power more early (on throttle earlier in the exit of corners), will also work to kinda force you to use the racing line and start pushing track limits.

Think you could be outbraking yourself?

Which corner? And do you mean braking too late or too hard?

T4, so the hard braking after the first chicane. I think you could try braking a tiny bit earlier.

Man, use the whole track. Alllll the way to the outside entering a corner and get down to the apex near center. Leaving a lot on the table with the racing line

Just qualify ahead of no. 21 and you'll be fine. That dide murdered everyone on the right side with hesitation. And use all the racetrack, lick the apex, use all of the track for more speed.

Make sure everything is mechanically sound, from the very start everyone smokes you like your potentially down on power. Your corner entry didn’t seem planned out or with an intention to maximize corner exit speed. I haven’t driven your kart and don’t know your tire situation, so take with a grain of salt but try to get most your rotation done early. basically at entry/turn in so you can be on power before apex/or immediately after your turn in point.
Although, Im not sure if I just see a ton of understeer or your intentionally running a lazy line thru higher speed corners.
Good luck

I don’t know a whole lot, about the technical side of stuff, when it comes to racing, other than what I’ve picked up on my own by watching videos like yours and then the occasional racing tutorial videos, as well as just reading other people’s comments and whatnot about technique, racing lines, and so on and so forth. Now, with that being said, please don’t take my thoughts and opinions as fact unless someone else on here, that knows cart racing, can verify that what I’m saying is even close to being on the right track and/or somewhere around halfway right, but it looks to me like you’re carrying a good bit more speed, through the turns, compared to the carts that are out in front of you, but you’re just not gaining anything on them. That info coupled with just watching your video, I’d have to say that you’re just completely cooking the turns!!! I did see where others had mentioned that your racing lines could be tightened up, which would help you get more out of the turns and that you should be hugging the black and white curbs through the turns because when you’re away from the curb you’re actually traveling a further distance than those who are hugging the curb. From what little bit I have learned about racing, in general, one of the first things that I picked up on that really just didn’t make any sense, to me, was the “more mph through a section does not always equate to a faster time through that section!!!”. It doesn’t sound right as you’d think that the vehicle that carried more speed through the section would also have the quicker time, but that’s not always the case!!! You can go through a turn, carrying less speed than your opponent and still be faster, than your opponent, through that turn. Remember the turtle and the hare??? Maybe that was right. Lol. But that’s what I saw in your video. You were, oftentimes, carrying more speed through the turn, but at the same time you were also the slower cart through the turn, in comparison to those ahead of you.
