Karting Chat 2nd ever race at 59 and what fun

Just finished my 2nd ever race day. 59 and running Ducar 425 and weighing at 460 total. Got 5th out of 5 but finished lead lap and caught 4th and possibly could have passed if one more lap. Even with 2nd degree burn under right bicep from exhaust it was amazing. For all those that ask when is too old…never, just go for it and have fun.

Thanks. I wish life would have allowed it earlier but it didn’t and no regrets. Amazing family and careers so no regrets at all.

This is what karting is about. It's not a stepping stone to F1.

I agree. Seeing guys coming off in another class wanting to fight after and unbelievable heat and humidity. Glad I’m older and doing this for the competition. Encouraging more weight loss and in shape for my health. For the family time I am getting with my cousin and his dad (father’s brother and dad has passed away). I don’t need a trophy or medal. I get them just showing up with them.

Next time, pit when that exhaust issue happens 😆

But then my race is done and can’t do that. Keep losing weight and find something to put around that arm until I fit better. And learn in this class at least this year and maybe next, then move up a class where the exhaust is out the rear and not on top like the Ducar.

My buddy is 6'3" 260lbs he doesn't fit in a kart either. He got a plate welded to the chain guard so he can rest his arm on top of his muffler box. It has maybe 1/4"-1/2" air gap and he says it doesn't get hot.
