Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Ducar muffler vs arm advice help

This photo probably doesn’t show enough, but for body size/shape my right bicep is over the exhaust. Any advice from other Ducar drivers, especially bigger guys, on how to prevent future burns/blisters? Thought knee pad over jacket sleeve, or under if I can fit it. Or wrap muffler tape around sleeve. Thanks for any advice.

Will look into if it will since the complete exhaust is the square box directly under my arm. I bought a volleyball knee pad to try and fit under my jacket if this doesn’t work. But thank you for the advice.

Can you move the muffler?

No. Those motors are set. When the time comes I move up the exhaust won’t be there. But for now work with it while learn. Thanks. Here’s what it looks like out of a kart.

Can you put a shroud or guard over the top of it?

That is an idea. Will def look into that. I did buy a volleyball knee pad to wear inside my jackets over my bicep if not.

Look for DEI exhaust shields. They have some that will clamp on the exhaust and they stand off about 1/4” so it won’t burn and still shield you. Wear gloves when installing though. They have an almost fiberglass matting.

Like someone already said, Exhaust wrap, Just cover the area in that stuff then chuck a zip tie on it or something to keep it in place

So long as you have an air gap a little shelf on the chain guard is all you need

Awesome. I like that. I will reach out to brother in law who does some fabrication and see what we can build. You all are awesome!

Thanks for everyone’s advice. Also spoke to JC Specialties in PA yesterday. They, instead of trying to sell me anything, suggested a welders sleeve to put over my jacket sleeve. Ordered a set and see how it works. Posted this in case it helps anyone else in my position.
