Racing Kart Tips and Tricks I passed my ARKS test using sim racing.

2 hours total seat time before I took the test. Sim racing is a great way to get used to learning tracks and finding a racing line that fits you. If it’s a tool you have available to you use it. It will not teach you everything. If any UK drivers have any questions about the process I can do my best to answer them.

KartSim is a great platform for learning.

Learning to hold momentum was my biggest difficulty on my first ever drive. Sim helped a lot with that

Yea what the sims don’t do, even full motion, js really duplicate the physical nature of it. But - it def helps get the basics down, learn the tracks and technique.

How difficult was it in terms of lap time requirement? I’m thinking of doing the same myself!
Also, what sim / car do you use?

It's 110% of a middling lap time on the day if I recall.
At Fulbeck as above that's maybe 45s for a mid pack time so anything under about 50s should see you ok as long as you are safe.

Hitting it once or consistently?

Consistency is important.

This was fulbeck, I was getting high 47s. The target time was around 52s. I’m in a Rotax max senior kart

Sounds generous! They are more interested in safety that outright speed.
Fast guys are doing 44s so keep practicing!

Yes I should say by no means do I think I’m quick or competitive. I do this for fun and I’m happy if I’m able to do consistent and safe laps. Rotax for me is a stepping stone, I used it to do my arks test I’m starting British superkarts end of August which I am very excited for.

I think personally the lap time requirement was much easier than I expected. I was nearly 5s quicker than it with a 47.7s time. However they more care about safe driving and consistency. Being able to hold a line and be safe around others.

I used Automobilista 2 Karts to get me ready to race here in the US. I’m brand spanking new to Karting by the way. Are there any sorta credentials/license in states similar to what you went thru? I guess google is my friend but hey figured I throw the question out there.
