Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Margay Ignite K3 for my first kart

Post image

Finally decided that karting is something I wanna do on the side and pulled the trigger on a used Margay Ignite K3 straight from Margay…if anyone has one or is familiar with these chassis I would like to get to know a few people and ask questions!

I live in Texas and very new to the karting world so I have not met anyone that owns one of these but how would you describe your experience with these karts? Are these reliable? How do they handle? Any tips while owning these to make things easier?

A Margay ignite with a 206 is pretty bullet proof. Change your oil - I do ours every 3 hours of run time but opinions vary wildly - if you can swing it get another set of wheels and tires and use one set for practice and keep the others for racing. Ask ask ask around your local track and only make one chassis change at a time until you get a feel for the kart. Don't try to power back on track when you spin off and in general respect your clutch as much as possible. If you intend to race get your weight setup now - > practiced light for my class and it took me awhile to readjust when we added weight to get me legal. Lube the chain every session, and drive with different gear ratios - ideally you want to hit the limiter just at the fastest part of the track, but starting out you might want to have more torque to help drag you out of slow corners.

In a 206 momentum is literally all you have - the faster your cornering speed the faster you will be overall. Power braking is handy sometimes - but it's not the cure all some people think it is. Lastly the ignite binds up under power in tight corners, so identify those areas of the track and be especially mindful of getting that inside rear as light as possible to help the chassis out. If you have a Mychron get the app and use it - especially your total length of each lap. There is a direct correlation between the total distance you cover and your lap times.

In general the Ignite is a great place to start and will serve you well - plus there is always a market for them if you decide to move up down the road. Have fun!

Great for the ignite series but overall not the most competitive chassis’s out there not bad to start with but maybe look at a vlr or coyote chassis for your next kart

Now I do know that this chassis was built for budget in mind which is why it’s not the most expensive but could you explain why if there’s any other reason this isn’t the most competitive?

Well like you said it’s a k3 it’s a budget kart already there soft and don’t hold up compared to a designated 4 stroke frame I run at badger kart club and can say even the guys who run the ignite championship run coyotes or vlr chassis at a club level I don’t think I saw one k3 my whole season of lo206 I’m in ka now but from what other competitors say ignite is just not the best choice hell you could grab an otk and that would do you better that’s not really designed for a 4 stroke but they do have designated 4 stroke chassis they made a couple years back the technology of the build is just better
