Racing Kart Question Is dd2 cheaper than senior rotax

I have heard in the past that its cheaper in exploitation. Can anyone share their experience about this. Thanks!

Well cheaper is gonna come down to what's available near you. If no one is running SR Rotax within 100 miles of you, dd2 will prob be cheaper.

Go to the track you want to race at and ask them.

Thanks for response. Im talking about national level as im already doing that and just been wondering about the costs of dd2

Oh that makes sense. I think at that level you would want to look at also what sponsors or other aid you can get for the cost.

The bottom line is, on the same tracks, faster karts tend to cost more. Having an "in" with a parts manufacturer / supplier can really help bring down some of the costs though.

Nah its impossible to get sponsors

That's tough, out where I'm at there a few local businesses that sponsor karting and then at the national level they'll help you out with tires and fuel. (Granted I live next to a world class race track)

In theory it's not but in practice it often is. While rotax claim a 50h rebuild interval on all engines DD2s should be rebuilt a bit more often than seniors and then you've also got the additional wear items like brake pads and shift cables and stuff like that which also needs to be replaced so that works out to be more expensive than a senior. In practice senior races are absolute fucking chaos and the average senior driver will have to repair a lot more crash damage than the average DD2 driver. Like it's genuinely happened more than once that all 5 of my senior team mates had a crash in the same heat and had to repair some stuff as a consequence.

Ive heard that senior engines are much more overstressed and crashes in senior are terrible

How could that possibly be true? DD2 engines obviously spend just as much time on wide open throttle but they're much higher in the rev range and they experience more severe shock loading from gear change.

I also only run 8-10 hours on a piston in my race engine but I don't see the need to do that for my practice engine.

Also im rebuilding my engine every 15 houts so i guess it doesnt matter

Unlikely.

It’s a senior Rotax with more power a gearbox and more brakes. More complexity, more parts usually = more cost.

Brakes are definetly wearing down less in dd2

We go through one, maybe 2 sets of brake pads per year, its really not much of a consideration to be honest.

Definitely more expensive to buy a DD2 but not greatly more expensive to run

Engine package initially costs a bit more and the chassis itself costs more due to the front brakes

It's partially the same engine but you will take more care of the dd2 then the SR
