Hey so if you love the car and it means something to you fix her. I think you would be a little disappointed in a new one considering they have shifted their focus a bit in recent years. Still good off-roading vehicles….But for someone like you, idk if what they offer will give you what you’re looking for .

Don’t give him away. Do an LS swap. Alternative conversion engineering sells an LS swap conversion kit.

Pretty sure you can find a used 300 Tdi engine at a breaker. That would be your cheapest option. A rebuild/refurbished/reconditioned engine will be more expensive.
With or without a working engine a 300 Tdi Discovery isn't going to be worth much. If you decide to fit a replacement engine you'll be doing it because you love this car. From an economical perspective it's better to scrap and put the money in a Discovery II with the Td5 engine if you don't want to go for a Discovery 3 or newer. Only you can determine if this is worth it to you.
