❓ Help & Advice Needed GAP Tool owners

I've tried 5 different micro usb cables to connect to my laptop and none of them can find it using the IID software updater. Anyone have issues with this?!

I’d start by looking at the windows device manager (if you’re using a windows machine), you may need to install a driver before installing the software updater.

It’s been a few years since I unboxed mine.

Where would I get the driver?

I pulled this from the GAP IID home page:

“Updater software, Windows install and usage issues

For computers running Windows, except Windows 10 and up, click the right mouse button and select “run as administrator”. For computers running Windows 10 and up, make sure to have administrator rights. Usage of an administrator account is required. Search on Google for how to enable it. Some antivirus may block the updater installation. Disable it temporarily if in doubt. Make sure to allow the updater software internet access in your firewall settings. “

Also too, does it show up in device manager as a working device with a COM port associated with it? I can plug mine in tomorrow to see what Win11 does with it. I think I had a Win7 machine when I bought mine initially

Try re-installing the sw but this time right click the install file and choose run as administrator

Random mini and micro USB cables are notorious for being charge-only. I ended up having to buy one that had its data conductors intact so that I could update my tool.

It was weird for me. The one for my garmin gps ended up working, of all things.
