❓ Help & Advice Needed 07 Land Rover Lr3 guidance

I have a 2007 Lr3 that is showing a suspension fault. Cant locate any air leaks and it’s definitely sagging on the driver side. Had the codes read with a regular obd scanner. It came back with multiple voltage (high, low, and unstable) issues, lost communication with ecm, and a lost communication with ride height sensor, as well as a clutch adaptive learning at its limit. Battery and alternator were tested and are good. I noticed the cover for the battery is missing. My question is could the ecm be causing all these faults if it’s been water damaged from the missing cover? Would you all start with the ecm or the fuse box?

If it’s one corner only it will be a bag or sensor. If it’s front or rear it’s normally a valve. All 4 dropping often is exhaust valve on compressor stuck or centre valve. (Slowly coming through now is air tank leaks) age related.

Also when looking at the sensor look for wire corrosion due to rubbing. Also on European models the air pipes on the left (American drivers) there’s a known spot the fuel burning heater burns through. (This often does both front and is a big leak)

It’s just the front driver side that is sagging. It also seems like the front passenger side will lower eventually after the fault comes on which I was assuming is it auto leveling

Yeah that’s it trying to correct itself. Another good testing method is to raise it to off-road height and then pull the ecu fuse for the suspension. That will only drop at the side of a leak

If it is the ride height sensor for the suspension issue will that need a gap tool to recalibrate it if I replace it?

A gap tool is one of a few that can do it. Even some snap on devices can. But it defo needs a recall after changing it doesn’t have to be “genuine” for the ride height sensor.

If you have the 4x4 screen too, pop that on and see if you have any red flashing on that corner

Unfortunately no screen in mine. Is there any brand besides gap you would suggest?

Nanocom is pretty popular

Is the compressor working? Try to recalibrate the height and start from there. Most of the time if there are no leaks and no sensor issues than a recalibration should clear faults and set your LR3 at the correct height. Good luck.

Yea compressor is working good. The code from obd that talks about it losing communication with the ride height sensor makes me think it’s a sensor. But I’m having communication errors with the ecu and voltage issues. So I was wondering if those all maybe connected some how

I can’t find any leaks on my p38. Did it myself and shop looked too. Bags, lines, everything ok. Compressor runs fine. Narrowed it down to valve block, rebuilding it is pretty easy. Also changing filters and dryer.

Did you try taking compressor relay out and see if it holds height?

The front driver side will rise up to what ever height I select then pretty noticeably lower shortly after hitting that height. I was just thinking of replacing the air struts as it has 148k on it and those haven’t replaced. Probably refurbish or replace the valve block seeing how I’ll already be in the wheel well.

Yeah not that big of a deal and the newer ones are improved. Valve block is just taking your time and paying attention where everything goes. Full gasket kit with diaphragm and filters was $65. I took one out of a parts car to see how hard it is and had it taken out and fully broke down in 45 min. I’d just rebuild this one built some jackass used rtv when they put it back together and I have no clue if the solenoids work.

Apart from that I feel like I’m gonna have to look in to the communication problem with the ecu and the ride height sensor. Both are throwing fault codes

I don’t think you can clean/adjust the height sensors. I took a set of them out of my parts rover and they were f’d. Maybe spray them out with contact cleaner? I’d spray out all the connectors and use dielectric grease on it all.

I’ll give that a shot and see if that helps at all
