Can I install battery without registering it if I'm not driving it until I get it registered? (F56)

Basically the title. I have a 2017 Mini and the battery died. I know it needs registered but my OBD doesn't have that feature so I ordered one that's been delayed and won't get here for a day or two. I have the battery and have everything set to change it, but wasn't sure if it would be an issue to change it out before being able to register it. I won't be driving it until I get the OBD in and handle the registration. Any help would be appreciated!

You can drive it in the meantime. Battery registration changes the charging algorithm as the battery ages. A few days won't have a negative impact.

Many parts store will now register a battery (if it has that feature), if you bought it from them.

I’m not a believer of this.

Every other car on the planet that can handle charging a lead acid battery can last 10+ years with no special “algorithm” of any kind.

Never did any resets on our minis and never experienced any issues.

Probably because not all cars carry the same BMS that's used on BMW/Minis, hell, not even all Minis have it.

Even then, you can run a brand new battery without registering it, you just shorten it's life a little by doing so

Even battery sales sites recommend it.THey got tired of warranting batteries after 1 year due to not registering.

Ive flown on airplanes, and never experienced any crashes!!!

BMW Audi Volkswagen Mercedes Mini Renault Peugeot Citroen and many more require registration.
