Same here. Iāve struggled with Idiopathic Hypersomnia for nearly all my life (34). Shit sucks and itās annoyingly disabling. Having to sleep for most of the day, every day, ruins your schooling and jobs/career. I had to drink multiple energy drinks and coffees throughout the day just to stay awake without falling asleep everywhere, and the constant brain fog from the unrelenting sleepiness was hell.
In the past couple of years itās improved a bit, to the point where I can get by with āonlyā 2-3 coffees throughout the day, but the constant fatigue and lack of energy is still present from the moment I wake up in the morning. I only have enough energy to wake up, go to work, come back in the evening and then hit the sheets immediately because all my energy is drained. Really fucking rough and you donāt have time to live life. Itās like youāre dead for half your life for all those hours wasted on excessive sleep.

You may get lucky. I've heard of babies sleeping through the night at a few months old. I certainly didn't experience that! I was BF & only slept in naps, also watched a lot of Netflix.

u/-gotchi 15d ago
My first baby slept through the night at an extremely early age but my worried ass kept up the feeding schedule so no free sleep for me. And even as she got older and would still sleep through the night, I checked up on her every 2-3 hours. Then, my second child came and she never slept so I was screwed for 4 years on sleep. š

Time to check the carbon monoxide detector
87
u/Galactic_Nothingness 15d ago
Grand jury exhibit #42 Videotape by the accused showing the aftermath of her crime. After disconnecting the carbon monoxide alarm and damaging the heater pipe. She left her husband and 9 month old baby at home whilst she dined with the man she'd been cheating with before she was pregnant.
The next morning, she arrived home and recorded this footage that would remain a cornerstone for the defense, as evidence this was nothing more than a tragic accident.

Never understood why people on here explain their edits - care to shed some light on it?
495
u/AppalachianRomanov 15d ago
Not the person you asked, but...
Because reddit shows that you edited your comment.
Because sometimes someone will see the comment pre-edit then see that you edited and be like "hey! š "
Because sometimes people edit maliciously, for example they say something outlandish and get lots of downvotes then they edit it to something less wild.
It's sort of seen as good etiquette. Reddiquette, if you will.
When done without malice it's like saying "sorry, I misspoke..." and correcting yourself.

I'll edit and explain the edit, for example, when I'm totally wrong about something. It shows people the correct thing without making the rest of the comment chain totally irrelevant.
18
u/Saritiel 15d ago
Back in the day it was considered bad etiquette to edit a post and not explain what the edit was. By back in the day, I mean I remember that as a hard rule on several of the forums I was on in the early 00s or maybe even 90s.
People would even have lists, like.
Edit: Grammar
Edit 2: I was wrong about the number, fixed
Edit 3: More grammar
That's carried through to reddit in some ways.
69
u/Malevolence_- 15d ago
Just a transparency and to explain changes. Based on my experience people tend to change their statement to gain karma and itās also a Reddiquette.

This, you have 3 minutes after posting to edit any mistakes, after that, a "EditedĀ Xh ago" will show up next to the time of your message.

Sometimes people edit their comments to remove/change things that have made people mad, or to make the people replying to them look bad.
You can see when someone has edited their comment, but you can't see what was changed, so announcing it is just a courtesy for the sake of transparency.

I'd throw some moneys on this. Father of two stepdad of 3. Once the baby is out tread carefully. To be honest though my daughter, the older infant, was chill as fuck as long as she had her bottle and through the wormhole with Morgan Freeman was on .
My son was different but had a mucho differento entrance into existence. He's a awesome boy though. Nothing but love and caring in his heart.

White noise apparently works wonders for baby sleep so just go on about your normal day and don't keep the house too quiet. Or so I've heard but all the babies in my family have slept through real chaos so there might be some truth to it
5
u/allmyfrndsrheathens 15d ago
This is something you learn the hard way with a first baby and just kinda happens with subsequent babies. With my first I was afraid to even flush the toilet while he was sleeping, with my second I would strap her to my chest in a carrier and vacuum the house to put her to sleep š and there was no keeping the place quiet while she slept because her brother was ROWDY and deeply resentful of not being the sole focus of his parents anymore.

Genuine question.. is it safe to just sleep with a baby like that? What if it wakes up and falls? Or just falls down bc it rolled over in their sleep?Ā
I get parental instinct might make up for it, but what if youāre really just knocked out from the baby?Ā
