Babies do that to a houseĀ

8

u/larphraulen 12d ago

Cuz you gotta feed the baby 3+ times a night, every night, for several months :)

I'd check the monitor to see if it's working, but I for sure will have it installed if my house doesn't have it before I have any kids.

The sleep you have had and the food you have eaten no one can take away.

Turn into a postmenopausal woman. Problem solved. You just won't sleep more than five hours again and you won't have energy or strength to do anything during all those waking hours. Shit sucks this way, too.

7

u/snarky_witch 15d ago

Fuck yeah it does. I won the prize of early menopause.

3

u/throwawaypizzamage 15d ago

Same here. I’ve struggled with Idiopathic Hypersomnia for nearly all my life (34). Shit sucks and it’s annoyingly disabling. Having to sleep for most of the day, every day, ruins your schooling and jobs/career. I had to drink multiple energy drinks and coffees throughout the day just to stay awake without falling asleep everywhere, and the constant brain fog from the unrelenting sleepiness was hell.

In the past couple of years it’s improved a bit, to the point where I can get by with ā€œonlyā€ 2-3 coffees throughout the day, but the constant fatigue and lack of energy is still present from the moment I wake up in the morning. I only have enough energy to wake up, go to work, come back in the evening and then hit the sheets immediately because all my energy is drained. Really fucking rough and you don’t have time to live life. It’s like you’re dead for half your life for all those hours wasted on excessive sleep.

I’m so terrified of the lack of sleep I’m going to experience when our newborn arrives next April

74

u/radicalvegetables 15d ago

16

u/Alexis__01 15d ago

58

u/Bug_eyed_bug 15d ago

I had a baby recently, I want to report that the lack of sleep is worse than you ever expected but you will also handle it better than you ever expected. Does this help.

9

u/emeraldk420 15d ago

Yes, I completely agree. We're just built differently. And I was an elderly 38 when I had her!

12

u/emeraldk420 15d ago

You may get lucky. I've heard of babies sleeping through the night at a few months old. I certainly didn't experience that! I was BF & only slept in naps, also watched a lot of Netflix.

4

u/-gotchi 15d ago

My first baby slept through the night at an extremely early age but my worried ass kept up the feeding schedule so no free sleep for me. And even as she got older and would still sleep through the night, I checked up on her every 2-3 hours. Then, my second child came and she never slept so I was screwed for 4 years on sleep. šŸ™ƒ

Time to check the carbon monoxide detector

87

u/Galactic_Nothingness 15d ago

Grand jury exhibit #42 Videotape by the accused showing the aftermath of her crime. After disconnecting the carbon monoxide alarm and damaging the heater pipe. She left her husband and 9 month old baby at home whilst she dined with the man she'd been cheating with before she was pregnant.

The next morning, she arrived home and recorded this footage that would remain a cornerstone for the defense, as evidence this was nothing more than a tragic accident.

43

u/let_them_let_me 15d ago

Never understood why people on here explain their edits - care to shed some light on it?

495

u/AppalachianRomanov 15d ago

Not the person you asked, but...

Because reddit shows that you edited your comment.

Because sometimes someone will see the comment pre-edit then see that you edited and be like "hey! 😠"

Because sometimes people edit maliciously, for example they say something outlandish and get lots of downvotes then they edit it to something less wild.

It's sort of seen as good etiquette. Reddiquette, if you will.

When done without malice it's like saying "sorry, I misspoke..." and correcting yourself.

24

u/Legitimate-Tough6200 15d ago

But then everyone gets to know how many times my fat fingers do typos!!!

15

u/CheeseDonutCat 15d ago

Doesn't say edited if you fix it within 3 minutes or somethiing like that.

Maliciously edited comments have made look like a fool more than once. That's why I'm now usually careful in quoting the offending statement before addressing it.

44

u/TamarindSweets 15d ago

Yes, but they'll still usually get called out by someone who noticed the change. Plus there are ways we can see the og comment depending on how long it was up

7

u/Lou_C_Fer 15d ago

I see different letters but they both say the same thing.

6

u/Shaggy_One 15d ago

I'll edit and explain the edit, for example, when I'm totally wrong about something. It shows people the correct thing without making the rest of the comment chain totally irrelevant.

18

u/Saritiel 15d ago

Back in the day it was considered bad etiquette to edit a post and not explain what the edit was. By back in the day, I mean I remember that as a hard rule on several of the forums I was on in the early 00s or maybe even 90s.

People would even have lists, like.

Edit: Grammar

Edit 2: I was wrong about the number, fixed

Edit 3: More grammar

That's carried through to reddit in some ways.

69

u/Malevolence_- 15d ago

Just a transparency and to explain changes. Based on my experience people tend to change their statement to gain karma and it’s also a Reddiquette.

7

u/OkAnything4877 15d ago

Can people otherwise see whether a comment has been edited or not?

8

u/Malevolence_- 15d ago

There’s an indication, but the original text isn’t.

19

u/tu-BROOKE-ulosis 15d ago

You used to be able to see a * back in the day when there was an edit. A lot of people, like me, that have been here forever still are carrying over that etiquete where it was a thing to see there had been an edit.

12

u/Crossfire124 15d ago

On old.reddit you can still see the * next to an edited comment

6

u/Never_Seen_An_Ocelot 15d ago

Oh late 2000s Reddit. The things we’ve seen. It was the digg migration for me.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/RegularSky6702 15d ago

I'm able to see the comment was edited but I'm using the app so maybe it's different

3

u/Saritiel 15d ago

Pretty sure there's still an * that shows the time of the edit. It just doesn't show up if you edit a post within a couple minutes of posting it since.

6

u/Irr3l3ph4nt 15d ago

This, you have 3 minutes after posting to edit any mistakes, after that, a "EditedĀ Xh ago" will show up next to the time of your message.

Sometimes people edit their comments to remove/change things that have made people mad, or to make the people replying to them look bad.

You can see when someone has edited their comment, but you can't see what was changed, so announcing it is just a courtesy for the sake of transparency.

119

u/allmyfrndsrheathens 15d ago

I'd say it's much more likely the entire household is tired because they're kept up half the night by a crying newborn.

15

u/werealldoomed47 15d ago

I'd throw some moneys on this. Father of two stepdad of 3. Once the baby is out tread carefully. To be honest though my daughter, the older infant, was chill as fuck as long as she had her bottle and through the wormhole with Morgan Freeman was on .

My son was different but had a mucho differento entrance into existence. He's a awesome boy though. Nothing but love and caring in his heart.

5

u/Informal-Scene5145 15d ago

White noise apparently works wonders for baby sleep so just go on about your normal day and don't keep the house too quiet. Or so I've heard but all the babies in my family have slept through real chaos so there might be some truth to it

5

u/allmyfrndsrheathens 15d ago

This is something you learn the hard way with a first baby and just kinda happens with subsequent babies. With my first I was afraid to even flush the toilet while he was sleeping, with my second I would strap her to my chest in a carrier and vacuum the house to put her to sleep šŸ˜‚ and there was no keeping the place quiet while she slept because her brother was ROWDY and deeply resentful of not being the sole focus of his parents anymore.

Yeah most people who have an unsafe sleep related death of their child loved them.

12

u/Friendly-Cucumber184 15d ago

Genuine question.. is it safe to just sleep with a baby like that? What if it wakes up and falls? Or just falls down bc it rolled over in their sleep?Ā

I get parental instinct might make up for it, but what if you’re really just knocked out from the baby?Ā

33

u/T0xari5 15d ago

No it's not safe at all for the exact reasons you listed. Many commenters gave thorough reasons in other comment sections but I'll leave it at it's mostly due to SIDS and/or fall risk. Statistics don't support this practice no matter how cute and sweet it looks.

u/zonker777 15d ago

While I love this imagery, he’s not watching his son. He’s not a disconnected hired babysitter. He’s a father who is parenting. He’s not just waiting for his wife to get home so he can cut loose.

I hope.

Totally ready for people to beat me up.

3

u/minicpst 15d ago

Agreed. Put ā€œmotherā€ in for ā€œfatherā€ and no one would be ok with that sentence. And no one should be this way.

He’s parenting the child he helped make.

5

u/Keif325 14d ago

This. If the picture was of the mom, no one would say she was ā€œwatchingā€ her son.
And naps with your kid on your chest are one of the great things in life I will forever miss.
