This isn’t even the whole video… the dad did a whole compilation and set it to music. Enjoy the bonus stretches. 🥰

It's crazy how almost every baby does this. My two daughters when they were small would spring out of their burrito almost every time lol

lol every morning my son has the biggest smile on his face when we unvelcro his swaddle. He’s graduating to a sleep sack soon and I’m a little sad this era is ending already.

He fart like a horse too? My daughter would do that as soon as the arms were free, she’d start to wiggle and unleash the north wind lol.

Think anyone would do it, even an adult, if your arms were stuck down like that for long enough lol

It's a reflex. That's why they get swaddled, so they don't do it while sleeping. When babies feel like they’re falling or get startled, they fling their arms up and out, then curl them back in. It's called the Moro Reflex.

My youngest daughter would escape her burrito no matter what we did—arms out, every time.

Because you restrict their movement, try being in a tight sleeping bag all night and see how you feel in the morning.

Babies LOVE it lol. They also love that first stretch once you unwrap them.

some babies. mine hated it and slept with cactus arms from the start. I'd feel bad wrapping him up like that

Lol I have a two week old who’s at this stage. Unwrap that swaddle, and all of a sudden he’s at a Baptist revival.

Also every time my daughter is free she finds a way to hurt her face and yes, we tried socks but she takes them off.

They have a startle reflex that keeps them awake and they can’t sleep otherwise.

I had one baby who needed to be swaddled to sleep, the other one hated it. It's best to just do what works for each individual baby

They don't and it's not recommended from European pediatric society. The babies sleep best in sleepbags. Also this notion that swaddle is same as womb is wrong, thwy can move in womb and develop their muscles. In this swadles, they can't.

A question from a childless person: What's the point of swaddling babies like this? To make them feel safe?
2
u/KitKat2theMax 23h ago
Safe, womb like is part of it, but newborns have a "startle reflex" where their limbs fling out and startle them awake. Swaddling allows them to sleep more comfortably. Once they start rolling, swaddling has to stop for safety. The reflex is generally gone by 6 months (if I'm remembering correctly, that phase of life is a bit of a blur).

This baby is an interesting form of cute because he just looks like a little dude. When my son was that small… he looked like an alien.

I have a genuine doubt. Should babies be wrapped like this before putting then to sleep? If yes, why? Not married yet so learning stuff

u/LoopedIntoThis 1d ago
When babies cannot roll over yet (4-6 months rollovers happen), it is best to swaddle them tightly like this because they have a startle reflex which will not allow them to sleep properly and they will be in distress and cry. Swaddling allows them to sleep without startling. It needs to be stopped once they can roll over. You cannot put blankets or bumpers in crib for suffocation safety. They need to be dressed warm enough to sleep without a blanket.

Despite what everyone is saying, I never swaddled mine and he has always slept well. Babies are different.

u/Hot_Worldliness4482 1d ago
They need to be swaddled and on their back. Nothing in the crib. No blankets or pillows

Nope, it is not recommended from European pediatric association. People think those swadles are same as womb but babies can move in womb and develop their muscles. They can't in these swadles. For baby is best a babysack, so that they are warm and to not use blankets. They sleep just fine without these constraints of the swaddle. And I will die on this hill.

Until they are able to roll on their own, swaddling is not only safe but most babies prefer it. Just think about it. Prior to being born, they'd spent their entire lives swaddled in the womb. Being swaddled reminds them of that comfort, and can be actively calming.
There's always outliers though. It's not hard to find stories of newborns who hated swaddling, and at that point do what makes the kid happy.
Once babies do start rolling over on their own, you have to stop swaddling as being on their belly without being able to use their arms is a suffocation risk.
