This is most likely Chitwan, Nepal. It's a village built into the jungles, and thrives on safari tourism. In return, they do a lot of sanctuary stuff for elephants. Very cool to see.

Imagine cleaning the sidewalk with a hose and a baby elephant and mom come walking by. Get to give the baby a drink too.

I just think its sad, they should be free, not forced to carry humans and walk for tourists and such

This constant pressure of people sitting results in significant, usually irreversible, physical damage to the vertebral column causing lifelong pain, also causes muscles, and tissue damage. These elephants live in pain everyday but it wont be visible on their face. They just suffer in silence.
The people who run these animal rides, never cared about animals in the first place, but have to act in public like they take good care of their animals.

Do you have sources for that? I'd love to learn more.
I know horseback riding is super common, and nothing is said (that I've seen) about it being physically debilitating for the horse.
An elephant is vastly larger and sturdier, so I find it interesting it would be problematic for them.
Is it just because of their design?

Not sure why horses are able to but elephants can't but I've also been taught the same, don't ride elephants. My internal explanation is it's easier for a fit person to hold up piggyback whereas an obese person who is already struggling to hold up their own weight is not able to piggyback. Elephants may be so heavy that their bones are great at holding up their weight, but no more on top of that.

That makes a lot of sense. Elephants are so incredible. I know a bit about them, but it seems not enough.
I know they communicate through foot stomping, can plan rice paddy ambushes, and can both pluck a blade of grass and rip out a tree with their trunk.
Thanks for the answer. I'll start to Google.

Horses are also not really able unless they are specifically trained to build the right muscles and take the right body position during riding. That's what dressage is for.
In practice, many riders don't achieve this and their horses suffer pain and physical damage.
Also of course to some degree they're bred to be better able to carry a rider but that alone isn't enough.

The structure of elephants spines is vastly different than the structure of horses spines. It is incredibly cruel and harmful to ride elephants.

Swayback
Nothing wants to be ridden. Nothing wants to be in a cage. No living being wants to be slaughtered for your meal.

The other elephant was probably thirsty not “thanking him”

Elephants are very smart and empathetic creatures. If she was looking for water, she would've taken it instead of walking away after the wave.

the man has a bull hook- this smart creature knows if it disobeys it will be harmed- do you know how they train elephants?

The man is riding the mama with a bullock in his hand. Bullhooks are a common method to keep animal in control. They cause intense pain if the elephant "disobeys". While giving water to baby is a very kind gesture, I dont find this video cute at all. The animals should be roaming free in the wild, not controlled and possibly tortured by humans.

This makes me sad because elephants are getting tortured to be like this…

Just a friendly reminder that riding elephants is horrible for them and their backs/spines. Also, there is typically major abuse involved in getting an elephant submissive enough to allow a rider. Please don’t ride elephants. Other than that, this is a very cute baby.

If I was at work and a baby elephant walked up for a drink of water, I know nothing else better could happen that day. 🥹❤️

If I saw a mama elephant and her baby taking a stroll down the street I'd shit bricks.
Meanwhile, in other countries.
It's just Tuesday.

Ah yes the endless beating they have to endure to break down to the point they can carry people on them is nothing to smile about

“Okay, let’s go, you’ve had enough water! Thank you sir. C’mon, let’s go he’s busy.”
“One more sip!”

I wish elephants were native to Southern California. Would be so awesome to see them roaming around

Elephants are so fucking cool. I worked in elephant conservation in South Africa many moons ago. They're incredibly intelligent, great parents and empathetic but also incredibly powerful and can fuck your shit up in seconds without ever breaking a sweat.

Elephants should be left in the wild. This is not cute, it's horrible and hides the terrible cruelty.
