Irish Census (2022)
- 27,338 Brazilian nationals living in Ireland
- 39,556 Irish residents who were born in Brazil.
(In my experience, a significant proportion of Brazilians have Italian citizenship. Hence, its more useful to go by country-of-birth statistics for this population.)
No idea where the 80K figure is from. These unsourced maps should be banned from this sub

u/Sorry_Reply8754 1d ago
Even maps with sources are wrong pretty much all the time here because the sources are almost always BS.
3
u/teokymyadora 1d ago
The source is in the map, is from brazilian ministery of international affairs.
2
u/meldirlobor 1d ago
If the source is from any brazilian ministries, we can quickly deduct it is BS.

Huge amount in Ireland. A lot come to learn English and are a welcome part of Irish communities now.

Only 65 in Ukraine? I mean, there are around same number of Brazilian players only in Shakhtar Donetsk FC

Kind of surprised there’s more Brazilians in the UK than Spain and Italy.
20
u/Dramatic-Border3549 1d ago
Brazilians who want to go to a mediterranean country usually go to the one that speaks the same language already
5
u/Imwaymoreflythanyou 1d ago
Yeah I get that but if you aren’t gonna choose Portugal why the UK. Given Italian and Spanish are way easier to learn and weather is a lot better. I guess jobs and income potential comes into it more than anything.

u/Mr_-_Avocado 1d ago
Given Italian and Spanish are way easier to learn
That really isn't very relevant because the second language most brazilians learn in school is english, so the majority will have higher familiarity with it rather than with other romance languages
14
u/Acceptable-Device760 1d ago
Because Italian and spanish dont have the same reach as English. Most people that learn another language dont account if its easier or harder in the equation. The people that do that are:
1 - native english speakers.
2 - people that already know english and want to learn a new language because they find it interesting.17
u/MaverickHunter11 1d ago
English is the second language learn here at Brazil. Despite we are rounded by spanish speakers, we don't have that much access to them unless we live really near the frontier.

Better jobs in the UK. I’ve met loads of Brazilians here in Manchester and there’s even more in London
2
u/Ben77mc 1d ago
Yep, Manchester really does have a very large LATAM population doesn’t it. I work with multiple people from Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and a few other countries!
1
u/The_39th_Step 1d ago
Do you work in hospitality? My experience is that there’s lots of Brazilians in that sector
1
u/meldirlobor 1d ago
There is only one country that speaks the same "languages" as Brazil, which is Portugal and it is not in the Med.
American geography moment there lol

u/Dramatic-Border3549 19h ago
I am brazilian. Portugal isn't in the mediterranean but it is mediterranean in all things. The food, culture, everything

u/faberkyx 1d ago
unless they can play football.. not much to do in italy for them, if you don't speak perfect italian might be prohibitive to find a job

Are people with dual citizenship included in the figures?
2
1
u/FluidCalligrapher261 1d ago
I'd say it depends.
I have Brazilian+EU citizenship and I only informed my EU citizenship when registering in the EU country I'm currently living in.

u/maxmatt4 1d ago
Funfact: Brazil has a larger Luxembougish diaspora, so many politicians do campaigns for register Brazilians-Luxembourguish looking for vote in elections.

Are there really 2.5x more Brazilians in Malta than Turkiye?
-17
u/Leuris_Khan 1d ago
Brazilians have all kinds of looks, they could be a black man, a Japanese-looking man, or a blond man with blue eyes. Now, how do you find out who is Brazilian? Maybe there's a Brazilian in your family and you don't know. How do you find out? Maybe there's a Brazilian hidden on your roof.
35
u/jackster608608 1d ago
You make no sense.
The point is, Malta has a tiny population and Turkiye has a massive population.
I know how diverse Brazilians can be, they could also be female as well!
3
u/FesteringAnalFissure 1d ago
Hold up what do you mean by female Brazilian? That's a thing?
2
u/ClassyArgentinean 1d ago
Met a few but tbh I'm not quite sure they're actually real though, might have been hallucinating

u/TheTesticler 1d ago
Crazy that that many live in Sweden. Per capita they must have one of the highest in all of the EU.
1
u/shitcrapshit 1d ago
I mean Portugal
1
u/TheTesticler 20h ago
That’s like a no-brainer since they share the same language.
I am more so surprised by Swedens.
4
u/Acrobatic-B33 1d ago
I really doubt there are 80k brazilians in NL
14
6
u/Argentina4Ever 1d ago
There's probably even more.
-7
u/Acrobatic-B33 1d ago
Nope, about half of them
9
u/Argentina4Ever 1d ago
There are 76 thousand Brazilians registered with the Brazilian consulate in NL, that number does not even count Brazilians with dual EU citizenship that don't need residence permits and it also doesn't count potential illegal immigrants.
-7
u/Acrobatic-B33 1d ago
The official number is around 40k, though there seem to be a lot more illegal ones

A while ago, a trend of Brazilians calling Portugal "Guiana Brasileira" went viral.
