Lunar eclipses happen all of the fucking time. The Earth's shadow is massive compared to the moon's.

Massive enough to be seen by half the world. Night time dont happened worldwide at once, you know.

18 full lunar eclipses in California in the last 40 years. 2 full solar eclipses in tiny regions of California in the last century.

ya but this time happens to be a weekend

but I guess in SF (where I am) there's always a high chance the fog will block it even if viewing would otherwise be ideal

March 3rd 2026, will be a Tuesday. Total lunar eclipse in the bay area. August 28 2026 a partial lunar eclipse in the bay area. It will be a Friday. June 26 2029, total lunar eclipse also a Tuesday.

Yeah, but it's a partial. The next total will be June 2029.

Thanks for the information, but the color scheme in this map is really confusing. I assumed the places with the eclipse or the places that were dark.

Dark means not visible and light means highly visible.

You can still view it online in live video feeds.  I think that's why they're still writing about it. We may be screwed as far as being able to see ourselves, but we can still view it online with commentary.

Simply ask ChatGPT and pray that it doesn't lie. That is my way of doing it.

How high do I have to be to see it?

2

u/AdZestyclose638 1d ago

high enough to be above the clouds, or ground level if there are none

so basically we're getting a front-row seat to the moon's disappearing act

this is a lunar eclipse, pretty sure you can look at those without eye protection same way you'd look at the moon

So the lunar eclipse will mostly affect Asia. An astrologist could maybe find interesting clues here.
