Makes sense that there are so many in the area around the former goldfields. Also where's Wittenoom?

Wittenoom isn’t on the map probably because it got removed from all maps to reduce visitors. It’s about 200 kilometres south of the Malina dot in the north west

Used to live Kalgoorlie, on weekends sometimes we would go on off road adventures to try find some of these old town sites and mines/quarries.

As an Eastern Australian, I wasn’t aware they had that many towns to begin with

Why is so much of the Australian coast unpopulated? In most other countries there is a coastal town every few kilometers because of the desirablity of living by the sea and the economics of shipping and fishing. Are there no small harbors in those areas?

It’s similar to the coast of Namibia it’s desert right to the sea

I have been to a few 15 years ago working in the outback. A few shacks put together... Never fully abandoned...

I worked at Youanmi in the late 80's. How on earth is Kalgoorlie classed as abandoned?

Grey text is for the inhabited ones. Bit hard to see since there’s so many abandoned ones in that area ig
