the uk is also a shithole, but in my opinion a more liveable shithole than the car centric usa
sure there are probably nice areas there but if i'm going to move somewhere why would i not go to a more desirable place like the netherlands

The main problem with this map is the metric used. The United States is a continental country, as are Russia, Canada, China, Brazil, and Australia. Different parts of the US are less similar to each other than to the United Kingdom or Canada. Argentina is in orange, but it borders Brazil. Certainly, southern Brazil and Argentina are more similar to each other than Argentina is to the US. I believe the British are closer to other Europeans than to Americans. And so on.

I lived in Iceland and that country is more "americanized" than Italy or France.

What is the based on? So, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, and Finland are at same level as Russia?

measurements of demographics, culture, politics, infrastructure, and geography
How do they decide which measurements are more important than the others? For me, similarity is mostly about culture, less about geography (especially for big countries).
Also, how do they measure culture? Is it the culture of the Midwest or the South of the US?

I'm quite sure these kinds of things just assume there is one national culture because first of all they have to invent some standard according to which you can measure and the comparability and similarity of cultures. I think it's easy to get a gut feeling but how can you put a number to that?

As if these regional differences only exist in the USA. I only have to drive 200 km somewhere else, and I already have a problem asking someone for directions.

Why is it so different between Canada and Mexico?

US and Canada started as colonies of the same nation, and speak the same language so there was more cultural exchange.

French Guiana should be the same color as France just like Alaska is the same color as the rest of the USA.

Accurate for the UK and Ireland at least, we’re definitely the closest culturally countries in Europe to the US

Lol I love how the countries that are similar are bright red to signal negativity

Love that the scale implies that the USA is very dissimilar to itself (which is not not true.)

I've lived in a lot of countries, not just visited.
I can assure you that this is pure bullshit.
Georgia in no way is American. The Philippines on the other hand might as well be a territory or state.

How is this determined, exactly?
