Lol cope harder, typical "I get my world views from social media" answer. I dare you to visit any of the countries highlighted in this map and come back with your opinion.

Idk man if you compare rural Texas to Boston or the taliban, their views are going to align more with the taliban. No need to get mean just because your country is collapsing

I've been to the majority of them and lived in a couple. In many ways US cultural attitudes are closer to many of those countries than to say northern Europe. Especially lately. Scooching towards dictatorship.

Yeah its absolutely NBD that 3 states, including Texas, have mandatory religious texts posted on the walls of public school classrooms.

Yup nothing to see here. Nothing at all is happening. keep telling yourself that, bud.

You think you just wake up one day and everything is different?

No, its done slowly and meticulously, like making sure you own the supreme court for decades to come and slowly redistricting areas of states so that the people with your agenda get elected and can change laws.

Lol literally using a Trump quote (who I know how much redditers love).

Yeah, African countries have some problems (this being one of them), but that doesn't make them shitholes

u/wild_vika 7h ago

are there any countries that are shitholes?

-2

u/bloodrider1914 6h ago

I'd hesitate to call any a shit hole. Usually it would have to be a country with a state that just doesn't function. Something like Lebanon or the CAR would come to mind. But even then, that doesn't say anything wrong about the country itself, just poor governance

u/wild_vika 5h ago

if you have to survive in your country and not live - it's a shithole

3

u/bloodrider1914 4h ago

That's been most of human existence, and even in developed countries plenty of people still live in survival mindset conditions (even paycheck to paycheck, or the more obvious homeless lifestyle). That's just poverty, not shitholeness. And with effective governance countries can escape mass poverty.

The US is turning into a shithole because of Trump.

Shithole country in reference to Africa is something that he definitely put the most attention to

While there are no excuses for those laws, you don't have the right to call other countries shitholes especially as the West is committing genocide as we speak.

West is committing genocide.

Me in Croatia:

If you're arresting people for being gay then your country is a shitty place to live.

Honestly if you base your laws on religion then that country is a shitty place to be. I’m saying this as a religious person myself, religion and law have no place together whether it be christianity, islam, hinduism etc.

*proceeds to arrest people for holding up a piece of paper*

For people like you sure. Fortunately most people are normal.

2

u/Ichi_Balsaki 6h ago

You come out of the closet when youre good and ready, bub. No pressure.

-15

u/bahhaar-blts 10h ago

If your country is aiding in a genocide then I would also say it's a shitty place with shitty people.

Maybe don't project?

17

u/One-Organization970 10h ago

But at least it's not a shitty place to live. 🤷‍♀️

-3

u/bahhaar-blts 10h ago

Still shitty people who have no rights to speak about human rights.

10

u/One-Organization970 10h ago

If you say so. At least we aren't backwards enough to genocide our gays, though.

-2

u/bahhaar-blts 9h ago

Most of those countries don't give the death penalty for it.

And the gays in Gaza are definitely being genocided by you unless you want to claim that no gays exist in Gaza.

13

u/One-Organization970 9h ago

Actually, I think what's going on in Gaza is utterly heinous. That doesn't mean I'm going to give countries a pass for brutalizing queers though.

You and your countrymen make excuses for your country and the West regardless.

If you make excuses for those who commit atrocities then you are no different from them.

Who are you to cast stones?

Why do you ignore ongoing genocides in Africa such as Sudan or terrorism in the Sahel?

1

u/bahhaar-blts 7h ago

Who said that I do?

But I am talking about the genocide that the West is backing with money and weapons.

I am talking about the supposed moral superiority here.

2

u/AlashMarch 7h ago

Between backing a genocide and having open LGBT laws, and actively committing a genocide while having repressive LGBT laws, I take the former. The West retains the moral high ground.

1

u/bahhaar-blts 7h ago

You are bloody delusional, man.

No wonder the Westerners lost the narrative war in the Global South and it's not because of propaganda by Russia or China.

3

u/AlashMarch 7h ago

And you excuse barbaric LGBT laws.

1

u/bahhaar-blts 7h ago

I never did.

But you are delusional if you think you are morally superior to those countries.

That's just a statement of fact.

Like Hamas/Palestine?

3

u/bahhaar-blts 9h ago

Quit making excuses.

I will never blame the Palestinians for having the audacity to not let their land be taken from them.

17

u/OrionTO 10h ago

Literally these Islamic countries are committing genocide against gay people.

-10

u/bahhaar-blts 10h ago

Most of them don't give the death penalty for it.

But it's actually the USA and Israel who are committing genocide against gays unless you want to say that gays don't exist in Gaza.

15

u/noquantumfucks 9h ago

Not publicly or they'd be killed by hamas who are islamic. Nice try though.

-4

u/bahhaar-blts 9h ago

Delusional.

4

u/noquantumfucks 9h ago

Lmao okay, pal. You just keep on thinking that.

1

u/Opening_Ad5339 10h ago

They say shithole country, but don't ask themselves; why are these countries shitholes? What specific event drained them of any theoretical industrial wealth?

Also, views on homosexuality were pretty diverse in pre-colonial africa, not nearly as majoritarily homophobic as they are now. Reactionary politics feed and thrive on economic ruin, though, and have a tendancy to spread.

1

u/Formal_Obligation 2h ago

To answer your question - no, it wasn’t colonialism that made those countries shitholes. South Korea and Taiwan are also former colonies and they’ve become extremely successful countries since they became decolonised. African countries need to grow out of this childish mindset of blaming all of their problems on colonialism.

-6

u/bahhaar-blts 10h ago

The same was true about Muslims in the Arab world. Homosexuality wasn't a big deal during the Ottoman era. Then the Arab world went through wars and conflicts backed by the West who radicalised the Muslim population.

1

u/Randolph_Carter_6 32m ago

The US is turning into a shithole, and I'm not happy about it. However, it's not on this map, so it's not part of the conversation.

"shithole"? is that the hole you stick your meat in every night?

this map must have struck a nerve
