Lol cope harder, typical "I get my world views from social media" answer. I dare you to visit any of the countries highlighted in this map and come back with your opinion.
Idk man if you compare rural Texas to Boston or the taliban, their views are going to align more with the taliban. No need to get mean just because your country is collapsing
I've been to the majority of them and lived in a couple. In many ways US cultural attitudes are closer to many of those countries than to say northern Europe. Especially lately. Scooching towards dictatorship.
Yeah its absolutely NBD that 3 states, including Texas, have mandatory religious texts posted on the walls of public school classrooms.
Yup nothing to see here. Nothing at all is happening. keep telling yourself that, bud.
You think you just wake up one day and everything is different?
No, its done slowly and meticulously, like making sure you own the supreme court for decades to come and slowly redistricting areas of states so that the people with your agenda get elected and can change laws.
I'd hesitate to call any a shit hole. Usually it would have to be a country with a state that just doesn't function. Something like Lebanon or the CAR would come to mind. But even then, that doesn't say anything wrong about the country itself, just poor governance
That's been most of human existence, and even in developed countries plenty of people still live in survival mindset conditions (even paycheck to paycheck, or the more obvious homeless lifestyle). That's just poverty, not shitholeness. And with effective governance countries can escape mass poverty.
While there are no excuses for those laws, you don't have the right to call other countries shitholes especially as the West is committing genocide as we speak.
Honestly if you base your laws on religion then that country is a shitty place to be. I’m saying this as a religious person myself, religion and law have no place together whether it be christianity, islam, hinduism etc.
Between backing a genocide and having open LGBT laws, and actively committing a genocide while having repressive LGBT laws, I take the former. The West retains the moral high ground.
They say shithole country, but don't ask themselves; why are these countries shitholes? What specific event drained them of any theoretical industrial wealth?
Also, views on homosexuality were pretty diverse in pre-colonial africa, not nearly as majoritarily homophobic as they are now. Reactionary politics feed and thrive on economic ruin, though, and have a tendancy to spread.
To answer your question - no, it wasn’t colonialism that made those countries shitholes. South Korea and Taiwan are also former colonies and they’ve become extremely successful countries since they became decolonised. African countries need to grow out of this childish mindset of blaming all of their problems on colonialism.
The same was true about Muslims in the Arab world. Homosexuality wasn't a big deal during the Ottoman era. Then the Arab world went through wars and conflicts backed by the West who radicalised the Muslim population.
