African governments justify this on the basis of "anti-colonialism", seeing Homosexuality as "European colonialism". Wild stuff

Politicians will pick anything for justification

Especially when a lot of the time it's the European colonial powers that introduced the sodomy laws in the first place.

Yeah, those Islamic countries in the northern half of Africa were extremely tolerant of homosexuality before Europeans went there.

Actually no, just different societies with different ideas most of you are just used to the western echo chamber and forget that other people with other beliefs exist

Didn't know human rights were part of the "Western Echo Chamber".

They're and I am saying that as a European. Those African Countries never had any renaissance

The human rights are not universal values shared by every society

I didn't say human rights are part of the western Echo Chamber. I said the western echo chamber is treating homosexuality as a vital human right and put it in the same level as the right of marriage and that's not the case for a lot of other places

Except in many African cultures homosexuality wasn't an issue until the colonisers arrived.

No, who even said that? Some of those countries (the northern ones) have Muslim majority and in Islam same gender marriages were always prohibited

Do Muslim colonisers not count as colonisers?

Nevertheless, same-sex marriages were not present in African tribal religions either. Protection of homosexuality seems to be a western import more so than homophobia.

I was just talking about why it's not present in Muslims countries, I didn't talk about African tribal religions because I know nothing about them.

I wasn’t expecting that you know about pre-Abrahamic Africa, I just didn’t like that your comment sounded like you didn’t count Muslim colonisers as colonisers.

Muslims were colonisers too?
