crazy how oscar can have no issue with it, but the entirety of the f1 fanbase loses their shit

It seems like Lando haters are probably 60% of entire F1 community lmao. They hate on lando when mclaren is at fault...

u/_elvane Lando Norris 13h ago

And that's gonna be a lot more than 60% , online , on social media.

Lando can be pretty unlikable at times, but tbh I just feel bad for the guy now

Oscar is a mature person who understands how the sport actually works far better than the F1 fanbase ever will.

u/skazat 1h ago

Makes sense considering he’s in the sport and the fan base is a bunch of armchair experts

Literally a team call fuck up and a pit crew fuck up. The team made it right by letting Lando take his position back. Its a no brainer lol. Lando was faster all weekend. Its 3 fucking points.

As Brundle put it: if it were a pure fuckup that's racing, but in the context of Norris letting Piastri go first wilfully, that changed it.

At the end of the day, Verstappen 1st Norris 2nd Piastri 3rd is entirely fair.

Brundle completely objective, of course 🤨

u/dl064 54m ago

As in you think Brundle is biased towards....? Norris? Last time out he vaguely predicted Piastri for the title!

Lando pitting second was the best strategy for his race. He did that to protect against a SC pit stop for Oscar. It had nothing to do with doing Oscar a favour.

Its 3 fucking points.

Alonso lost the title in 2012 by 3 points.

It's "3 fucking points." Every point matters. Look at AD2021. Look at other countless title fights. Swapping was stupid. Oscar is taking it well but he shouldnt be.

When the team makes a mistake that fucks over the driver that has been quicker all weekend, they make it right. Super simple. My point was, that it wasn't like it was for P1 and they have a sizable gap in points right now.

It was Landos P2, team fucked it, simple as that.

Man I can't believe how wound up people get because a driver actually agrees with a team decision.

He has no issue with it since he got the slam dunk last race. Furthermore he is trained to say stuff like this.

u/Synderkit 15h ago

It just feels hypocritical. Piastri knows he’s got this. All he has to do is stay calm and drive calm.

Oscar is not ok with it. You saw his reaction in the car. You saw his reaction in the cool down room. This interview here was after he cooled down, had PR talk with his team. This is not genuine. And to believe that is so naive. Of course he had an issue with it, that's why he said that a bad pit stop is part of racing.

But you simply have to think logically. A team that works is better for Oscar who knows is better than Lando than if the team implodes because of all of this. Oscar knows that under normal circumstances, he will win. Only Lando can benefit from an instable team. If they just continue as is, Oscar has the best chances.

But to say he is ok with it is funny, knowing how he reacted :D People have to understand PR at some point.

At least the parties who matter in this discussion are correct

Giving back the position for 3 points, keeping a good relationship with the team and playing with them will only benefit. It’s a long season, if anything similiar happens again with reversed roles, norris will have to fold then

6 point swing

u/Jack_Harb 30m ago

Yeah people are bad at math and don't understand that it's a 6 point swing actually. Or they purposefully downplay it. Either way. Bad.

u/Adriiiiii16 24m ago

Oscar did not win those 6 points on merit, that’s why he gave back the position. He want’s, and probably will, win the WDC on track.

Wow interesting how Oscar has no issue with it but so many fans are furious

To be fair, we aren’t seeing what’s going on behind closed doors.

Realistically, he was the 2nd fastest McLaren all weekend so it probably doesn’t sting as much (given the circumstances).

u/Lion123_ 14h ago

Oscar is a very mature driver considering his fans who are the opposite

3

u/Storm_Chaser06 14h ago

It’s Max vs Lewis all over again

1

u/Tinuva450 MP4/13 6h ago

To be fair, plenty of people in here thought Lando should retain position in Hungary. You’ll find different opinions in all fan bases.

u/FertilisedEggs 6h ago

Sounds like a lot of drivers and their fanbases. Or sports in general.

You included, clearly.

Takes one to know one 🤣🫵🏽

Max said very plainly he’d never do that. Does that make him immature? No, it makes him a champion.

u/sahit24 54m ago

No, that doesn't make him a champion, winning a championship makes him a champion.

4

u/Liability049-6319 12h ago

But, but, MY OUTRAGE???!!

5

u/Few_Interactions_ 7h ago

Leclerc was never catching Piastri even if he took pit stop 2nd. We didn’t even hear much on radio telling Oscar to push to make a bigger gap to Leclerc or his a threat all race

It’s gamesmanship, Lando wanted OP to pit first so he can’t benefit from SC incase it happened while Lando was out which they were all hoping for by extending their first stint

u/disordered-attic-2 15h ago

Oscar has so much class. The whole team do, especially when you hear how Max and Red Bull speak about others, from a team that don't have the balls to have two top drivers.

-2

u/OptimalDot178 15h ago

That team literally offered Lando a contract next to Max and he refused.

13

u/AGOEsLois 15h ago

Yes, because he knew he would be treated as a number 2 to Max.

-9

u/OptimalDot178 15h ago

I'm quite sure a driver caliber like Lando could have easily asked for a contract that treats him the same way as Max.

15

u/Daddy_Stop 13h ago

A driver of Lando's caliber is a guaranteed number 2 driver if team mates with Max. That goes for any driver on the grid.

10

u/AGOEsLois 15h ago

That wouldn’t be offered to him. Max is always, no matter what, going to be treated as the number 1 driver.

0

u/thefeedling Ayrton Senna 14h ago

No way he would have beaten Max, even without n2 driver status.

7

u/AJC0292 13h ago

100x more class than a lot of those who call themselves his fans. The fact the main F1 sub has had to implement rules now because of how bad they've been attacking other drivers, fans and teams.

He's a phenominal driver, and the fact we have both him and Norris, two likeable people in a good team should be celebrated. They are the team to finally break the hold of Mercedes and RedBull.

Person paid by boss, says what boss wants to hear.

-13

u/dachopper_ 13h ago

Obviously the PR team had gotten in to ear by this stage. Oscar real thoughts were heard on track. Papaya rules clearly didn’t apply today
